Chapter Text
You lived in a cozy apartment in a not-so cozy part of the city. Lights were bright and you certainly don’t get enough sleep in this shithole. You were happy though, you enjoyed living like this. It’s not like any of your friends that lived here made it weird you were a Lightner either. You’ve been living here for a while, maybe a year? Maybe some more. You didn’t keep track of time and it’s not like you really care anyway. Most of the people back in your hometown think you’ve gotten up and snatched or even murdered. You cut contact from both of your parents due to the situation, which you feel bad about, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. You sat up from your decently sized bed, stretching out and getting ready for the day. You were up and early, even if work wasn’t technically required you still did so. Rent was a thing! You put on your clothes, which was just a button-up and some slacks just like everyone else at your job, and grabbed a small bag and left. You let out a soft sigh. You turned on your car and started driving, noticing the large building as you pulled up.
You worked at what was considered a prestigious company. It had a big name for itself and would probably keep itself running for years on. You parked and headed to the large glass doors, glancing around at the fancy cars that were shown on display. They were far too expensive for your taste and your wallet but they still somehow got your attention. You gave your waves and hello’s to your co-workers and headed into your small office. You booted up the computer and immediately got to work. Sure your schedule was repetitive and boring but you liked it that way. It made things normal.
You kicked your legs without thought as you typed carefully across your keyboard, these big ol’ computers bothered you if you had to be honest. They took up half of your desk space and ran slower than your will to live. You sat and waited for your document to load up properly and fiddled with the pen in your hand. You weren’t a salesman but you weren’t not one either though. You just had to convince some people to get a car and leave with a payment plan. That was it. Easy. You were very convincing too. Hell, your boss somehow let you work here despite being human.
You heard a soft tapping by your desk, causing you to flinch. You glanced over and up at one of your coworkers, Erick. A yellow addison who couldn’t keep his damn eyes off of you. You let out a soft groan to yourself. “Aw sugar, don’t act like you aren’t in love with me.” He gave you a grin. “For the last time. I don’t. Go do your job.” You scoffed with annoyance. Where did he even learn his work manners?! He didn’t even have any!
“I’ll do my job once you do yours, what’re you doing?” He points over to your computer which has an empty spreadsheet open. You put a hand to your face. “I was going to start putting in my numbers for the big man but you’ve rudely interrupted me at the moment.” You crossed your legs, swiveling your chair around to face your computer. “Don’t gotta get all aggressive on me! Damn. I just wanted to know if you wanted to go do a bit of money wastin’ tonight.” He put his hand off your desk, putting it on his chest in a fake offended manner. You thought for a moment. Eh, if it wasn’t your money.. It wasn’t that he was a bad dude either, it's just that he easily pissed you off because of how.. Egotistical? You’re not sure if that’s the word that could be used to describe him but it’s close enough. Erick just did things at the wrong time to say the least.
You hadn’t realized you were so lost in thought about calculating about what you should do that Erick spoke up. “Well?” He crossed his arms, looking down at you. “We’ll see..” You mumbled. You grabbed a paper that you shoved to the side of your desk and set it in your lap and glanced down at your chicken scratch handwriting. “We’ll see’ isn’t a damn answer!” Erick lets out a bark of a laugh, bringing a hand to his mouth. You glared up at him with the most serious look on his face. “Yes. Happy?” Honestly he couldn’t take you seriously, only giving you a small nod and leaving.
You couldn’t help the small smile on your face forming after he left, a small blush dusting right across it too. You brushed it off though, starting to waste away the hours in your office. It wasn’t long until the shift was over and you were freed from this hell called ‘Big Shot Autos.’ Now doesn’t that just sound threatening?
You lingered around the entrance doors, waiting for Erick. It took a moment for him to appear, now sporting a nice spiky leather jacket tied around his waist. “Hey there, dearie. You ready to head out?” He held out his hand for you. You casually declined it, just to be snarky and started to head out into the employee’s only parking lot. Erick scoffed as he trailed behind you. You turned and asked, “Which one is your car?” You tilted your head slightly. “Pff, you think I’m basic enough to drive a car? C’mon.” He held onto your hand, bringing you over to a pretty fine ass motorcycle.
“..You want me to get on that?” You pointed vaguely in awe. He nodded, swinging his leg over and untying the jacket around his waist. “Unless you have something better to ride.” He’d flirt very casually, handing you the jacket. You gave him a playful shove, slipping on the jacket and getting on. He revved the engine and the two of you would be on your merry way.
The wind blew your hair in all kinds of directions, you clung onto Erick’s waist and even hooking a finger around his belt loops to make sure you weren’t gonna go anywhere. The motorcycle would come to a stop at a traffic light, he glanced back behind him to look at you as he waited. “Anything special you want?” He shouted over the loud noises of the bike. “Yeah actually, get me the most pristine diamond ring possible.” You joked, letting out a laugh. “I got you.” He faces forward again, noticing the green light and taking a turn. You closed your eyes and enjoyed the soft music coming off of the radio of his bike and the wind flying through your face. It only took a few minutes for him to suddenly come to a stop, turning off the bike and carefully getting off of it. You glanced around your surroundings, it was just another generic shopping plaza.
“C’mon, there’s a jeweler I know that can get you what you want.” Erick gestured for you to follow him, walking onto the sidewalk. “Wait what? I was kidding about that!” You shouted, quickly swinging off of the bike and doing a short jog after him. “I said I was going to waste money, so let’s waste it.” You let out a soft groan as he popped into a smaller shop simply called ‘Chimes’. And chime did the bell ring! You glanced up at the source of the noise and then glanced around the place. It was actually pretty cute and had a variety of jewelry on display. Rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, you name it!
Erick was quick to mosey on over to the counter, leaning against it and tapping the dinger to alert a clerk as no one was standing behind the counter. You stopped admiring the place for a moment and went and stood next to him, fidgeting with your sleeve. “Hold on a second!” Shouted a familiar voice from another room. You raised a brow once you saw the man that came out and had a rag over his shoulder. It’s your fucking boss. You saw him take a glance down at you immediately, probably used to Erick barging in. “Oh- erm. Hey, Mx. L/N.” You gave him a small awkward wave. “Didn’t know you had another business.” You let out a soft laugh, looking up at him. “Yeah, this is more of a side hobby if anything.” Spamton directed his focus onto Erick. “What did you need this time?” Erick tapped on the counter, looking down at it and seeing the different jewelry in the display case.
“Ah, little fellow here needs something quite special.” He put a hand on your head, slightly shaking it. “Oh, like an engagement ring? You two would be the last I’d expect to get something like th-” Spamton took the rag off of his shoulder and put it on the table. “Not an engagement ring!” You quickly cut him off, feeling bad about your disrespect but you really didn’t need him under the impression you were off the market. Erick let out a laugh seeing how flustered you got about something so simple. “They do want a ring though, speaking of which.”
“Continue.” Spamton eggs Erick on. “I dunno, anything with real diamond on it?” Spamton nods, crouching down into the glass display and gently grabbing a few different rings. “Here’s some options for you, tried to find ones that are a bit cheaper.” Erick picked one up and sat it back down, looking down at you for you to choose. You stammered for a moment, picking one up and happily admiring it. You nodded back up at Spamton. “Lovely choice. And since you know I do enjoy my deals, it’s quite a coincidence that you, Mx. L/N, are actually the millionth customer!” He gave you a soft applause. “You can just call me Y/N, we’re not at work right now.”
“Well, Mx. Y/N. I’m providing you with an 80% discount from this purchase and a free accessory of your choice.” Spamton keeps his hands clasped near his chest. “Oh! Uh-?” You sat the ring down and left for a moment and glanced at what they had. There were a few sunglasses and a few different hats. You looked through the glasses particularly, you thought some of them actually looked interesting. You picked a random pair, yellow on one side and a hot pink on the other. They actually looked pretty snazzy. You speed walked to the other side of the shop and placed them gingerly next to the ring. Erick and Spamton were talking back and forth, you watched as Erick pulled out a card and handed it to the other salesmen.
You didn’t actually know that this was simply the start to a love story you didn’t consent to.
