Work Text:

"Hello, little baby!!" She coos, arms open as bobby runs up the stairs and straight into her, buzzing with excitement despite evident fatigue.

"Jaiden! He was such a good fighter, you know?" She smiles at the phrase being spoken in fully english, a phrase she said to often, it was interesting how despite their language barrier, mannerisms still managed to share themselves upon who a person is close to.

"He is, he is, you guys went out? ¿Aventura?" She questions, butchering the word yet feeling her heart thrum in fufillment in the olders surprised face. "Si! SI."

"el fue increible!" Roier continues, cooing to the younger, familiar words in spanish she could automaticlaly translate to "proud of you" "amazing," she smiles and nods along with roiers praise. She worried about their child too much, and she knew it, but moments like these always seemed to make all of the anxiety worth it.

"You learn the most when you experience life.." She reminds herself, the eggs attention changing to her despite roiers distraction.

"tu ropa está rota" Roier complains, picking at the eggs clothes. Reaching into her pocket, she enables to translator, reading "His clothes are torn" Sighing, she didnt even have to read the translator to comprehend the rest of roiers bickering as scolding the child.

"He's just a kid, roier." She snaps, glaring at her partner who doesnt back off, sighing and continuing.

"Roier!" She raises her voice, scoffing, "Have him wear a full set of armour, you know the rules we made for him." Scoffing, she walks over the child, kneeling down to assess the damage - a few strings out of place, loosening the pocket, she could easily patch and sew it back together.

Taking a deep breath, she calms herself before speaking, "es bueno." Gesturing to the torn pocket as she stood, roier gives her a skeptical look, one glare before he puts his hands up in exaggerated surrender. She giggles, trying to lighten the suddenly tense mood which she caused, gesturing for bobby to follow her.

"I'll fix it." Explaining, she picks up the baby, watching roiers nod as he descends to the basement, the two parting ways.

She looks over the younger with a questioning look, absentmindedly plucking the overalls ripped pocket, hit during their training, she now had to take out the old string and replace it with something more durable.

“Bobby?” She starts, the eggs slight upwards movement being the child’s reply. “Do you like to fight?”

The thought had been bothering her for a while now. Did her child like to fight, to go on all these adventures and do all these tasks for her and roier, or was it the praise and attention that came with? Now, with everyhting becoming so stressful, it was better to check rather than allow everything to get worse, right?

She smiles at the eggs slight tilt, a familiar mannerism to her bird, she noted. One of confusion, needed elaboration and occasionally a message of ‘how am I supposed to answer that??’

“Roier and I love that you protect us, you’re like our little knight, bobby.” She spoke, threading the needle, hints of iron shone from the strands of wool she hand crafted, more durable, and a lot more stable for all the notes and pens bobby carried around.

“But do you like fighting? Slaying all the monsters, keeping the cool stuff that you get from their loot and treasures?”

“Or, is it just, do you like to make mommy and daddy happy?” Meeting the eggs eyes, well, where she assumed they were from watching their actions.

Finishing the loom, a final knot to keep the pocket rightfully in place. She sits back.

“I like making you happy” The egg wrote with now free movements

Smiling, she nods with a coo, “I love you sweetheart, that’s so sweet of you." She acknowledges the childs words, before continuing "Mama's just worried, do you like fighting? Or is it too scary?”

The egg fumbles with the notepad for a second, fidgeting with the paper.

“Okay, too big of a question.” She giggles, shaking her head with a look which showed her realization, so bobby wouldn’t think the laughing was at him.

“Does fighting make you sad, with everything going on?” She questions, taking one of bobbys hands in her own, gently rubbing a thumb against the childs much smaller own.

The egg nods, writing ‘it’s how my friends died, I used to like to play fight, but not now'

“Oh bobby…” Gently placing the needle to a nearby table, she opens her arms for the baby, who accepts the comfort.

Heart aching, she looks down at the child, evidently upset by their shaking arms tugging his mothers hoodie closer again and again, who of course hugs them more tenderly.

“I don’t want you to ever think that you have to fight just because we want you to. Mommy wants you to be happy, for you to do what you want to do, if anyone is making you fight or do anything which you’re not okay with, tell me.” A soft smile as she spoke, sighing “Roier’s too enthusiastic for his own good, wants to keep you safe, mourns with you and makes sure to be by your side no matter what. It’s a bit too much for anyone to handle, and it's okay to need a break or a rule to fix it.”

The egg nods in agreement, used to the adults antics straight from adoption. Days full of learning about fighting, farming, curiously exploring as the experience was new for all three of them, she only now realized some of the childs curious actions were immediately turned into reptitive jobs

“Mommy will tell roier what you’re upset about, and it may take some time and some reminders, as he’s as impatient as you are.” Earning a playful poke on her arm, she giggles, “Father like son.” Rolling her eyes.

“But, I just want you to know, that iyour father and I love you, your father would do anything to keep you happy and safe, and I will do as much as I can, even if it means to fight for you, for it to become a serious trial, we will be here for you, because we are your parents.”

The egg nods, clinging closer, she felt bad for keeping the younger up for so long, but she knew bobby would get a good sleep after releiving so much stress. It was worth it.

"You go get ready to sleep, i'll set up your bed, is that alright?" She questions, the egg nodding in response. Slowly exiting from the hug, she rubs bobbys back in an assuring gesture, before the younger wanders off.

Organizing all of his blankets, making sure his bed is comfortable, she smiles as bobby bounded over, jumping onto the mountain of blankets.

"goodnight, my little baby." She whispers, kissing where his forehead would likely be, "All i want is to give you the best childhood I can, i'm so sorry, you didn't deserve any of this." She whispers, nearly breaking off into a sob if it wasnt for the facade she needed to keep for her child.

Wood creaking, she watches roiers sillouette dissapear, heart shattering. He didn't hear everything, there was no way he could have, and now he might be upset

Glancing back over to her child, she kisses him once more, tucking him in, making sure he was as comfortable as possible."Have a good sleep." WHispering, she smiles at the lack of movement, fast asleep, she tiptoes away and closes the door as quietly as possible

"Roier?" She questions, shutting the door behind her as she leans against the crafting table, her partner staring into space.

"Bobbys tasks are done.." She points out, placing a hand on the others back. "We need to talk, before we sleep, because i know you were listening, and didn't get the full story."

Tensing under her touch, surprise of being caught, she muses, she sighs before adjusting. Instead leaning against the wall, picking up one of bobbys fallen drawings with a smile, before she began.

"I'm sorry for being so aggressive earlier, I shouldn't have been, especially since i know of..." Trailing off, she gestures with her hands before continuing, "I want to be there, to protect bobby with everything that's been going on." She confesses, sitting up straighter so her armour wouldn't interfere with the translator. "And I let that get to me, uhm, my worrying for bobby, made me very upset."

"I got mad at you, because I was stressed, before i could talk to you without yelling." She corrects, trying to be mindful of their language barrier.

"they are little kids, si." Roier agrees, "You are right."

Looking over, her partner watched with understanding, nodding. "I am very upset because, even before i knew bobby was going to be our child, or that I would be raising an egg with a partner, I promised that I would protect this baby dragon, that i would die in its place if I had to, and make it the happiest dragon to ever live." Pausing, she waits a few seconds incase of any need for clarifications, taking in the comforting smell of their houses wooden planks as roier comprehends everything.

"so, now that there has been death of friends, danger and even more." She shakily exhales, hands falling into her lap in a gesture of acceptance, "It feels like i just broke every promise. These are baby dragons, cluelessly following their instincts, and I'm trying so ahrd not to be a bad influence on Bobby's development, but I failed."

"Bobby is the happiest child on this island, jaiden." Roiers hand settles ontop of hers, squeezing twice, "You make a large expectation out of yourself, but you have done everything to live up to it, which is the most admirable thing ive ever seen." Sighing, roier looks upwards, pondering.

"You have proved your promises multiple times, you are not lying, because you have not broken any promise. If you ever do, I know that you have tried your hardest to not break them, and I will try my hardest as well. Because he is our child, and I know you care just as much as I do."

Smiling, she nods, "We are safe." Squeezing roiers hands three times, the action is replicated back "We are safe."

Looking into roiers eyes, nothing but pure care and understanding, she whispers a "gracias." before tugged into a hug. Armour clanging and no doubt waking up their baby, she giggles at the sudden tension of roiers realization, comical timing as bobbys footsteps approach.

"You better have a good excuse, or he's gonna go after you like a burglar."  She giggles, yet making no move to leave the embrace, Roier needed this, and even if they had to deal with bobbys wrath, a few extra seconds of affection was worth it..
