The Quiet Beauty of the Moon

Summary:

Kaveh knows he is beautiful. Other people have told him so enough times for him to believe otherwise, too. He knows he is like the sun who brightens up a room the moment he steps foot inside.

Alhaitham would not describe himself as such.

Work Text:

Kaveh knows he is beautiful. Other people have told him so enough times for him to believe otherwise, too. He knows he is like the sun who brightens up a room the moment he steps foot inside.

Alhaitham would not describe himself as such.

Before now, Kaveh wouldn't have, either. Objectively good-looking. Perhaps, even as far as handsome. However, the light of the full moon creates a different vision.

Its light reflects off of silver hair to give it a glow that reflects its own surface, it's hard not to stare.

The softness of his features as teal eyes observe the moon itself does not go unnoticed by Kaveh. His fingers twitch with the absence of a pen and paper, attempting to commit the scene to memory. There is no way to describe how it highlights each shape other than beautiful.

Alhaitham returns to the book in hand, but not before he states he cannot concentrate with Kaveh's staring. Kaveh blinked, only then realising his stupefied state. He does not bother with an apology. Who would apologise for being taken with the moon?

Then, there is the next time. A bleary-eyed Alhaitham staring through lidded gaze at the blond who can only think it is a pity Alhaitham doesn't realise how mesmerising he truly is. Teal eyes shimmer in the moonlight in the same way the sea does; glittering so captivatingly.

He knows he shouldn't be here, staring at his roommate's half-awake form like this, but how can he look away? How is it fair? To be a work of art, like this, and not even realise or appreciate it. To be so breathtaking like this, Kaveh stays frozen, watching that shimmering glow. Kaveh knows he is like the sun. The sun rules daylight. The sun brings light and life into the atmosphere. Alhaitham is like the moon. The moon is quiet, under the cover of night, and Kaveh feels privileged to be able to see through the darkness. The moon is for the sun.

Its light is a reflection of the sun. In the daytime, it is but silver against blue. In the night, it shimmers and glows and captivates until you cannot look away.

Kaveh hopes to all gods no one else ever sees the beauty of the full moon as he does.
