Work Header

6:59 AM

Summary:

“And, I love you,” Jungkook answers. He kisses him again, taking the time to memorize the feeling of Jimin’s lips, to outline the shape of his lips with his own.

Notes:

Inspired by this poem:

I’ve been told
that people in the army
do more by 7:00 am
than I do
in an entire day

but if I wake
at 6:59 am
and turn to you
to trace the outline of your lips
with mine
I will have done enough
and killed no one
in the process.

Work Text:

It’s still dark.

Even through the closed curtains, Jungkook can tell the sun has yet to rise in the horizon. He leans to the side a little, trying to stretch his back. He frees his arm from where it was wrapped tightly around Jimin’s waist, raising it into the air, deepening the stretch.

The morning is quiet and still. Perfect. Jungkook blinks the sleep from his eyes, reaching up to wipe away the dryness.

Jungkook settles back into bed, wrapping his arm back around Jimin’s chest, pulling him in close. He hugs him tightly like this, just enjoying the peace. It’s the little moments like this, that make everything seem worth it.

He leans in, pressing a soft kiss to the nape of Jimin’s neck; breathes him in, the corners of his mouth turn up into a small smile.

He’s soft and warm and Jungkook thinks he could stay like this forever.

A groan, a soft sigh, some snuffly breathing indicates that Jimin is no longer asleep. He breathes deep, “good morning.” His voice is dry and rough.

Jungkook huffs a laugh at the displeasure in Jimin’s voice. “Good morning, my love.” He presses another kiss to the nape of Jimin’s neck, “sleep well?”

Jimin softly hums his assent.

“I didn’t wake you, did I?”

“Kinda? But, it’s okay.” Jimin laces their hands together, leaning down to press a kiss to Jungkook’s knuckles. “We probably have to get up soon anyway,” he yawns. “I have to be up by 7.”

“Same,” Jungkook pauses. “Can we just stay like this for a while, though?”

Jimin lightly laughs, “of course.” He turns in Jungkook’s arms to face him. He tucks his arms in between their two bodies. “Hi,” he says softly, a bright smile crosses his face. The sun has risen, after all.

“Hi, baby.” Jungkook leans forward to press their foreheads together. “Good morning,” he presses a soft kiss to Jimin’s lips. Jimin reaches one hand up to cup Jungkook’s jaw.

“What are your plans for the day,” Jimin asks, once they separate.

“Class, mostly. I have to work late tonight, though.”

“Do you want me to pick you up?”

“Please,” Jungkook groans, trying to ignore the thought of taking public transportation. Jimin stifles a laugh. “You?”

“Class,” he nods. “Then, I have to teach a dance class.”

“Oh?” Jungkook arches a brow, “you didn’t tell me about this?”

“It’s for course credit, Hoseok offered me the position, said he knew some connections.” Jimin shrugged, “it’s over at the Health and Wellness Center, you know where that is?”

“I think? I’m not sure.”

Jimin laughs again, “it’s okay.”

“Tell me about what you’ll be doing.”

Jimin lights up, beginning to describe his new role as a dance instructor. While he talks, Jungkook’s eyes wander, focusing on Jimin’s warm brown eyes, down the slope of his nose, tracing the outline of his lips, down to his chin. “Jungkook, are you even listening to me?”

“Um, not really?” His pitch goes up at the end, so it sounds more like a question. Jimin shakes his head, but his eyes are fond.

“What are you thinking about?” His voice becomes soft.

“You,” Jungkook replies simply. “I’m always thinking about you.”

A soft blush rises up Jimin’s cheeks, “so sweet.” He drags out the ‘e’ teasingly. Jimin leans forward, pressing a kiss to Jungkook’s throat. “I love you.”

“And, I love you,” Jungkook answers. He kisses him again, taking the time to memorize the feeling of Jimin’s lips, to outline the shape of his lips with his own.

I have done enough.

Their 7:00 AM alarm goes off.

Notes:

the absolute CHOKEHOLD this poem has had on me. i'm a sucker for soft love stories.

i knew i had to write something for it and i think soft jikook was perfect.

i hope you all enjoyed it!

also, kind of tangentially, this poem more specifically reminded me of the movie firebird which just came out on amazon prime. but, i felt it would be too disrespectful to try and re/write such a love story. regardless, i very much recommend this movie. i think it is one of the best representations of queer relationships in the media right now.
