Notes:

I wrote these a while back as an exercise to try out some different writing styles. It started out in english, but eventually ended up in french. After, I separated the two poems, and as a result each one is slightly different. They’re not exactly translations of each other, rather two sides of the same coin, and each one reveals different things.

Anacrusis It begins Largo e tranquillo Some long sleeping piece Keenly awakens Undulates and swells Da capo al fine It curls right in Caressing, fingers through hair That sonorous splendid sound Traces trails amid my skin Sinks in, burrows deep I found refuge here Beneath this altar of veneration Harboured safe from eternity I breathe it in Tender whispers swirl sweet Delicate succulent savour to taste Resonance resounding ribs Sympathetic bones reverberate Maestoso e misterioso Chords wrapped around me Turning my body to symphony Keys modulate, tension mounts My trembling hands amplify Let go It murmurs Melodiously Espressivo e affettuoso It is everything I hear Everything I crave and long to be If I were left to rest in This fond embrace Such pure perfect Eden I stain with my disgrace And yet Enduring The song resides Calling to me again, a reminder always Such radiant, brilliant light Feroce con fuogo Stroking, scorching my skin Oh, how I've fallen There is no return From what I have wrought And yet It subsists That sacred sanctuary Permitting me dwell within Seeking solace to sate the cold Hollowed space a soul once stored Solo lacrimoso I envy those who weep Freed tears through cracked skin My face, cruel and dry I, unworthy guard of silence Afforded no rest For all that can rest me Is to sing
