Chapter Text
Sleep didn't come so easily for Miruko these days. She had effectively saved the world, but... where would she go from here? The trickiest thing about a legacy, is after you've established it, how do you go on without tarnishing it. There's a small part that wonders, if it may have been better for her to die in that fight. She finds it hard to believe she'll ever find a more glorious death. That isn't to say she longs for death, or anything so sad, she just wants to be remembered, to be important... This is what she stayed up at night thinking about. Restless in bed, Ryuko had thrown herself right back into hero work, going back on patrols, and while Miruko was of course keeping up with her training, she wasn't ready to get back into the fray just yet.
She prods Ryuko, "Hey... you up?"
Ryuko murmurs.
Rumi wonders how annoyed Ryuko could get with her if she woke her up. She weighs the options very carefully. She chooses to just snuggle her. Hoping that Ryuko's warmth will quell her mind, and take her off to sleep. The soft rhythm of esposa's heart against her ear was so comforting to Rumi... she was happy that she could still hear it.
When Ryuko wakes up, she has a one armed rabbit clinging to her for dear life. She wonders if she was having some sort of nightmare. She peers at the clock and sees it's just about noon. AGH! I slept in! Ryuko shakes Rumi awake. "Rumi. Wakey wakey."
Rumi murmurs.
Ryuko groans and pinches her cheeks.
Rumi whines, and sits up. "Whas goin on?"
Ryuko slips out of bed, "We have to get going-"
Rumi grabs her hand, and looks so sad. "Just today... can we call in sick?"
Normally... Ryuko would scold her, and tell her that heroes can't take sick days, top heroes especially. But she can see something more is bothering Rumi. She sits back down. "What's wrong?"
Rumi smirks and wraps her arm around Ryuko's waist. "Don't I sound sick?"
She tries to escape but Rumi holds her to the bed.
"Please!"
Ryuko sighs, and pets her rabbit. "You have to tell me what's wrong or I'm leaving."
"I want a vacation..."
"That's-" Not something she's ever asked for before... This feels like a responsible choice but Ryuko still doesn't understand, "Why?"
"I just feel like... if I go back out... I'm going to ruin it, but if I just keep laying here. Then I might never go back out there. If I leave, and I have to come back, then I'll want to go out again. I think. Does that make any sense?"
"No." She sees Rumi's ears sink. She smirks, "But, fine. Where do you want to go?"
"Anywhere! What matters is that I have you, and." She mutters something under her breath.
"And what?"
"And the kids..."
Ryuko facepalms. "You know, The Kids. Actually have families of their own, and probably already have plans for their summer vacations."
"So then we tag along."
Ryuko groans.
"Please please pleaseuggh!"
Ryuko really doesn't want to make herself a nuisance of the Asuis, Urarakas, or the Midoriyas. She's all but certain they'd let them tag along. Especially the Urarakas, if they have plans. Still, "We'll see if the kids even want us."
"Yay!"
