Poison Apple

Summary:

After you ended things with Loki, he feeds you an apple of immortality from Asgard without your consent. But to his horror, due to your powers, it has the opposite effect, making you begin to die a slow, painful death. Loki panics and kidnaps you, intending to make things right.

*This Loki is a tad darker than I normally write him, fair warning*

Chapter 1: The Apple

Chapter Text

You walked with Thor down to Loki’s cell, feeling suddenly nervous. Sensing your discomfort, Thor smiled weakly, “I assure you, he’s unable to breach the barriers, he won’t be able to get to you. Are you sure you want to do this?”

You nodded, “I want him to hear it from me.”

Thor sighed. He opened his mouth to say something but then closed it again, knowing that no matter what he said it probably wouldn’t help. You were dying, and it was Loki’s fault. In his quest to keep you for himself, he ended up just giving you a prolonged, painful death.

Thor and you walked down the final corridor towards Loki’s cell. You took a deep breath before you rounded the corner to see Loki standing in the middle of his cell, almost as if he knew you were coming. Thor and you approached him, the silence was deafening. You stared at Loki, his body stiff and tense, almost as if he was ready to fight at a moment’s notice.

“I sense you’re not coming to release me?” Loki sneered at Thor, avoiding your gaze.

“Loki you know what you did was wrong. You interfered with the lifespan of a Midgardian without her consent, you fed her the apple and now she’s dealing with the consequences of your choice.” Thor said, shaking his head, “How could you do such a thing?”

Loki’s nostrils flared, “you interfere with the humans all the time. How many battles would they have lost without you on their side?” He still wasn’t looking at you, which made your anger flare up.

“I’m dying, Loki. Whatever you were trying to prevent, you’ve only made it worse.” You snapped.

That caught his attention, his eyes widened slightly as he finally returned your gaze, his face going pale. “What did you say?”

“The apple is killing her. It’s not meant for Midgardians and it’s slowly poisoning her. Her body will not be able to handle the changes, making her death a slow, painful one.” Thor explained, his eyes full of pity as he turned to look at you.

Loki’s hands twitched, “How is that possible? It’s supposed to make them more like us! If anything, it should make her life lengthened by thousands of years.”

Thor ran his hand through his hair, clearly distressed by this whole situation. “Banner said that perhaps if she had regular Midgardian physiology. But her enhanced physiology is making the apple have adverse affects.”

Loki inhaled sharply and looked back at you; his eyes held that same frantic expression that they had when you were dying.

“Bruce says I have maybe a month, then my body will start to decline and then it won’t be long after that,” you said, trying to keep the shakiness out of your voice. “I just wanted to be the one to tell you.”

Loki’s breaths became shallow and rapid, his hands balled into fists.

You swallowed, feeling nervous. “Why did you do this?”

Loki’s gaze flickered to Thor, “Leave.” He demanded.

“I’m not leaving her here alone with you,” Thor argued.

“I cannot possibly harm her,” Loki extended his hand to touch the barrier which sparked at the contact. “I am confined in here.”

Thor shook his head, “You’ve already done enough harm, I won’t let you attempt to do more.”

“It’s okay,” you said, “I would also like a word alone with him.”

“You’re sure?” Thor asked, placing a hand on your shoulder. Loki’s jaw clenched at the sight, clearly upset that Thor was touching you. Thor gave him a stern look before leaving the room, warning Loki that they would be watching him on the cameras.

There was a long silence after Thor left, with you and Loki just staring at each other. The air was thick with tension, but you needed answers.

“Why did you do this?” you asked.

Loki let out a long breath, “Because you were dying.”

“Then you should have let me die.”

Loki picked up a tray that must have contained his lunch and hurled it at the barrier, making you jump.

You got closer, not wanting to show him fear. “You had no right to fuck with my lifespan, Loki. It was selfish!”

“Selfish? Do you have any idea what a risk I took in stealing that apple and feeding it to you? That is a crime punishable by Odin’s law, but I took this risk for you. I planned meticulously for months, on how exactly I was going to feed it to you, but then when the accident happened, it was the perfect opportunity.” He paused, moving closer. “You were dying, and I could give it to you as a last resort and no one would have faulted me. Or so I thought.”

“What was your plan if that worked?” you asked, throwing your hands in the air. “To play stupid and say that you had no idea that the apple would have this effect? Slowly help me come to terms with my new lengthened lifespan and hope that I would want to spend it with you?”

“What did you expect me to do? Accept that you would whither and die before I even visibly aged?” he scoffed. “You are mine, and things that are mine will not be taken from me unless I allow it.”

You backed away from him, “I am not yours.”

“Do you need me to remind you exactly how you are mine?” he asked, you felt a rumbling beneath your feet and the lights started to flicker.

“Don’t!” you protested as the barrier vanished and he advanced on you, grabbing you roughly and placing a hand on your head.

Hundreds of memories flickered through your brain at breakneck speed, all of them were of both of you, but this time, those memories held his perspective. For months, you and Loki had grown closer to each other.  One night, after a gruesome mission you and him ended up falling into bed together, trying to find a means of comfort when everything else wasn’t quite as satisfying. Images of his lips and tongue dragging over every part of your body made you gasp.

It eventually became a routine after missions that you would find comfort in each other’s bodies, and then it would happen more frequently. You began pulling each other into unoccupied rooms or supply closets and finding release when the outside world became overwhelming. Loki was fun, he was comfortable, and you assumed that he wouldn’t be interested in anything more than something physical.

But after months, it wasn’t just about sex anymore. Both of you lingered afterwards, falling asleep in each other’s arms and talking about the deepest parts of your soul that you both hadn’t dared to share with anyone else. He began to grab your hand and bring it to his lips, kissing each of your fingertips when he thought no one was looking. On more than one occasion, you’d find little gifts or flowers in your bedroom waiting for you on nights he wasn’t there, with notes that promised that he would make it up to you for his absence.

It wasn’t dating, you both never called it that. But when Loki had asked for it to become something more, you told him that it wouldn’t be wise to further something that could only be temporary. You were thinking of his well-being in the long run. He would always be the one to lose you, while you would get to keep him your whole life. It didn’t seem fair, so you ended whatever it was that you were.

You had thought that he was taking it remarkably well, but now you realized that he had something much more sinister planned that even you couldn’t have anticipated.

You had managed to kick Loki off you when Thor burst into the room, swinging Mjolnir, ready to strike.

“My apologies, brother but I really must be going.” Loki smirked, lunging at you and grabbing you roughly by the wrist.

You tried to fight him off, but everything went dark, and you felt the rush of air around you, eventually your body hit the floor with a thud, your head smacking off something hard. You felt the warm rush of blood soak your head, feeling immediately dizzy.

The last thing you heard was Loki’s reassurance that you were going to be okay.

No, I’m not, as long as I’m with you. You thought before passing out.
