LIMBO

Summary:

Fair enough.

Work Text:

“Do you happen to not trust humans?”

I stare at the question. Do I not trust humans? Or am I just envious of what others have; that they are so free and I am so caged? Do I not trust humans? Or am I just abnormal in every sense of the word, and hatred is hard-wired into my brain that it seeps into my face?

Do I not trust humans?

I stare at the person who asked the question. I opened my mouth and waited for words to come out, but alas, there are none. The question is abrupt that the calm scenery and ushered footsteps and skeletons of the café didn’t help.

“No answer?” he says.

“Is this a test?” I eventually say.

“No. Genuine question.”

“... Probably?” I tilt my head. Why ask that question anyway, out of the blue? It’s not like it matters anymore. “Is that a good answer?”

A pause. Hollow eyes. He seems to be reading me. I’ve had enough therapists that give me that look. I don’t need one here.  “Fair enough.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Do I look like it?”

“Like what?”

“Someone who does not trust humans?”

“Hm...” he hums. “Would you get offended if I say yes?”

Is it because I was alone? Is it my hypocrisy? Is it simply because I was afraid and now that my time is gone, I’m starting to feel that gripping pain of loneliness?

“No.” I rest my chin on my palm, leaning towards him. “You’re right. I feel like death is more trustworthy than humans.”

A pause again and a cryptic smile to pair, while he sips the remaining coffee from his white tea cup. “Fair enough.”
