I'd Light the Room On Fire, Just To Frame You With It

Summary:

She was always the difficult part when it came to his killings and plans. He could predict what the police would do when they got to the scenes, what his victims would say before he started to cut, and what his bodyguards would ask as he came in late. But Yun-Jin… She was so incredibly difficult.

Notes:

I had so many ideas for this month's prompt and they all went out the window when I tried to write it. But this fic has inspired a few more ideas, so maybe I'll write something for them outside of this prompt thing. Thanks to sapphicblight, TheGrayKnight, and sidehoryuuzaki for beta reading and helping with tags. Especially with the tags because oof this is not easy.

The prompt for this month was 'different'.

Work Text:

Ji-Woon had a place in his final show for everyone. As he stood on the stage in the late hours of the night, he imagined where each one of those bastards would stand as he used their voices as a living orchestra. He could almost hear the screeches of pain, cries for help, and whimpers of mercy dripping from their lips as he used their vocal chords for his final song. Everyone who would attend his show would have their place in his final symphony. All except one.

Yun-Jin.

She was always the difficult part when it came to his killings and plans. He could predict what the police would do when they got to the scenes, what his victims would say before he started to cut, and what his bodyguards would ask as he came in late. But Yun-Jin… She was so incredibly difficult.

Ji-Woon swore she could see in his head sometimes with how well she knew his actions. Oftentimes when he thought he got her off his trail, she would be just a few steps behind him. She frequently knew when she was being lied to, like when he was pulling the No Spin card. She could read him like a book and would’ve figured him out at a much faster pace if he had dismissed her and her abilities and assumed she was like everyone else.

Ji-Woon thought about killing her at one point. He saw Yun-Jin put the pieces together for the first time that morning after the birthday girl’s body was discovered. His initial plan was to kill her before she could tell anyone.

Throughout the day, Ji-Woon had fantasized how he’d do it. As he finished up some of his recordings and got ready for the scheduled tv show interviews, he thought about how he would drag her out to one of the warehouses and cut her up. He tried to imagine what she would sound like as he took his time with her, wondering if she’d shiver and whimper under the softest glide of his knives.

But then the press came, crowding him and pressuring him with questions about the murders. Ji-Woon held back his smile as he was asked what he thought of the police adding him as a potential suspect or if he thought it was the work of a crazed fan. A few reporters even implied that he was responsible for his band members’ deaths. He knew all of this could easily be messed up if he didn’t carefully choose his words.

Before he could say anything, Yun-Jin had gotten between him and the reporters. He could feel the steaming heat of her anger, contrasting with the cold afternoon air. She handled the press, telling them that he was not responsible for these murders and to ask the police for further questions. She scolded the reporters for bringing up his bandmates’ death, telling them to stand back as she ushered Ji-Woon to their next location. He watched her defend him, even though she fully suspected him of being guilty. She stood her ground against the reporters, her words seeming to scare them off.

Even now, as all signs point to him being the murderer, she defended him against their bosses. Yun-Jin stood up for him against the Mightee One executives, but in the end she was unsuccessful. He appreciated her support, even if she was only acting in her best interest. He was grateful for her and the role she had in becoming who he is. And he intended to show her just that.

Ji-Woon would reward her by letting her see him in action. He would give her the performance of a lifetime, showing everything he was capable of doing. Yun-Jin would see The Trickster in all his glory. He briefly wondered if she’d watch in fear, anger… Maybe in awe? Maybe she would see the beauty in his art. Maybe she would see all of his hard work and understand what he’s telling her.

Ji-Woon walked to the center of the stage and looked at the seat in front of him. He thought of Yun-Jin watching him, eyes flickering as she tried to keep up with his movements. Her mouth slightly agape as she gasped at the spectacle before her. He could almost see her flinching as sprinkles of blood came down on her face.

Then came the hard part. Deciding what would happen to her and what would happen to him once the curtain closes. Ji-Woon needed it to be special. His final display of her needed to be perfect. He couldn’t cut her down like he did with everyone else. Yun-Jin was different. She was better than them. So she would get something better.
