Work Text:
White was studying when he felt himself fall.
He startled and looked around, heart beating. His side hurt. He rested his hand on it and realized what had happened. Black.
Black hit himself somewhere else. It didn’t feel like a kick or a fist either. It felt like a…. corner.
White reached for his phone and called him. Something was strange.
Black didn’t answer.
White sighed and waited a few more minutes. No more scrapes. He hoped Black had gotten to wherever he’d been going safe.
*
Black was drunk.
Fuck Mercy for saying she could outdrink him. Fuck that. Black could hold his alcohol.
He caught himself on the wall and stumbled outside of the bar. He had to go home before White decided to find him because he’d felt him hitting that table on the way out. He stared at his bike, but even he wouldn’t drive like that. It was fair game when he was shot, but after that many drinks? No.
Fucking Mercy.
He turned on his phone and called a taxi. Sat down on the curb to wait.
It came after an underdetermined amount of time and he checked for his wallet and got in.
“Address?” the driver asked. Black gave it and closed his eyes against the nausea.
Next time he was drinking inside his room. He hadn’t expected the night to end like that or he wouldn’t have taken his bike. Or fucking agreed to come. Fucking Mercy. The shit he did for intel when he didn’t want to use hia’s network.
The driver screeched to a stop. Black snapped his eyes open, looking around. That wasn’t the time it took to get him home.
Then he realized where he was.
Fuck.
“Did he pay you?” he ground out.
There was silence.
“What are you talking about? That’s the address, no? 1041 Phloen Chit Rd, Lumphini, Pathum Wan.”
Black stared. No. He wasn’t drunk enough for that.
Fuck.
He was.
“No, take me somewhere else,” he said. The driver gave him a narrow-eyed look.
“Can you pay, boy?” he asked.
Black glowered.
Then Todd knocked.
Because of fucking course he did.
“I can. Drive!” Black snapped, but Todd had already opened the door.
“Black!” Todd exclaimed and caught Black by the arm.
“You’re here. Come on in.” He lifted Black almost bodily out of the car with an annoying smile. “Thank you for driving him. Keep the change!” Todd said cheerily and threw a lad of bills into the car.
“Let me go,” Black ground out, gripping Todd’s collar.
Todd grinned down at him. “I’m right here, love,” he purred.
Black groaned and pushed him off. Stumbled back. Glared.
Todd was grinning like the cat that got the cream.
“Now, now. You came to me, Black. It’s only fair that I come to welcome you, no? We were raised to be so polite after all.”
Black sneered. “Fuck you, Todd.”
“Whatever you want,” Todd hummed. “But first, some water, no? You seem so drunk, Black. Who got you like that?” His voice was sweet poison.
Black bared his teeth. “Wouldn’t you like to know, you bastard.”
“Oh Black. I’m a lot of things, but not a bastard. I’d never have been allowed to inherit otherwise.”
Black rolled his eyes.
“Shut the fuck up.”
Todd laughed. It was a nice sound. It always had been.
Black was a fucking idiot for drinking out and not making Mercy’s lackeys bring him home.
“I’m not going to deal with you now, Todd,” Black sighed.
“You’re the one making it difficult. I just want to get you home,” Todd replied.
Black froze. He couldn’t have installed a bug on his phone, right? But Todd didn’t sound smug. He sounded like his usual self.
“I can get home just fine,” Black groused.
Todd gave him a look. Fuck him and fuck his judgemental fucking eyes.
“What are you talking about, honey?” Todd asked, sickly sweet. “You are home.”
Black scoffed, but Todd ignored and wrapped an arm around his waist.
“Let’s go.”
“Let go before I take off the arm, Todd,” he growled.
Todd hummed, uncaring.
“Your room is untouched. You can have it back for tonight,” he continued, leading Black to the entrance and the lift.
Black didn’t know why he went. Maybe it was the alcohol. The steps were familiar. He could go to his room with his eyes closed. He dreamed sometimes that he still lived there. That Todd had seen the cause his way. That things hadn’t fallen apart.
Fuck Mercy and her fucking challenges. He hoped that she’d shoot herself in the leg.
He grudgingly let Todd help him to the penthouse. There, he pushed Todd away and stumbled into the bathroom attached to his room to splash cold water on his face. There was a bottle of water on his bedside table when he came out. He scoffed at it and bypassed it to go to the kitchen himself.
“I left you water,” Todd said, following Black’s progress to the fridge.
“You drugged me last time, asshole,” Black replied and took a bottle of cold water to crack open himself. He chugged it and took out one of the wrapped bowls of food left by the aunties. He could do with a late dinner.
Todd watched him wordlessly.
“This isn’t home, is it?” he asked, smug.
“Fuck off,” Black replied and showed him the finger.
Todd laughed again. He was too fucking cheerful.
“I want to break your nose. Let’s see you laugh then,” Black mumbled.
Todd raised a challenging eyebrow. “I’d like to see you try when you can’t walk in a straight line.” He paused dramatically. “I wonder who got you drunk so badly, but I don’t have to, do I? You don’t hang out with your little gang, you have a precious few friends left. Only the one.”
Fuck Mercy, fuck Todd and fuck the gang.
“Fuck you, Todd.”
“Fuck me yourself when you’re not drunk, Black. You know I’m down.”
It was Black’s turn to laugh.
“Easy, Todd?”
Todd shrugged. “I know what I want, Black.”
Black shook his head and grabbed another bottle of water before going to his room.
He’d deal with Todd in the morning.
If Todd didn’t try to kill him.
If Black stayed.
