Beautiful

Summary:

Renjun does not hesitate when he jabs his elbow into the man's side and uses his leg to trip him so he falls to the ground with a groan. Renjun is quickly on top of him. “Who are you?”

The man grins as Renjun feels his hands grip his thighs. “Jaemin.”

Renjun looks at him weirdly. “Is that your real name? Why would you-”

“When a pretty boy asks for my name,” Jaemin interrupts, giving his thighs a squeeze. “I simply give it, Renjun.”

Renjun narrows his eyes. “What did you just call me?”

Jaemin smirks as he tilts his head. “Do you prefer I call you beautiful? I do like that nickname.”

Notes:

i hate giving my stories titles, its so hard and dumb and requires too much thinking when I'm already done with the story *rant done* ok here's some assassin renmin because yes. that's why. assassin jaemin!!! like pls yes ily

Content Warning!
renjun and jaemin are both assassins so if this makes you uncomfortable I do not recommend reading! i mainly focus on the romance and there is technically an assassination attempt (?) but renjun actually does not get anywhere near the person he is supposed to assassinate! there is no deaths in this, i mainly focus on renmin romance. also i just want to point out that both boys only go after very very bad people ! but nobody actually gets assassinated in this, but yes they are indeed assassins!

Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Renjun pulls out his handheld mirror and applies more cherry red lipstick to his plush lips, giving them a good smack. Perfect.

Today’s mission has him going to a fancy party in the expensive part of town, meaning it’s going to be full of rich stuck up snobs. He has to look his best, no wrinkles in place and hair perfectly styled. He used his expensive perfume this time, applying just enough so that it’ll linger as he passes by people but not strong enough that it has people's noses scrunching up as he talks to them. He admires himself in the mirror, doing a little spin. He smiles, it’s perfect.

Security is tight when he gets there, but he already knew that would be the case so he reluctantly had to leave his favorite sets of knives at home. They have an insider who already planted everything he needs in one of the rooms upstairs. All Renjun has to do is sneak away unnoticed, retrieve them, and finish off his target. Simple enough, he’s certainly had harder missions.

He manages to get past security with sweet smiles and promises he has no intention of keeping. He slowly walks around the party, staying close to the wall so he can observe as much as possible. He twirls his glass of wine in his hand, taking a sip as his eyes land on the old rich business man he was tasked with taking care of. Renjun’s not heartless, he only accepts jobs dealing with the worst pieces of scum and this man certainly takes the cake.

So target located, now he just has to-

“Oh, I’m sorry.” A smooth voice says beside him as their shoulders bump. Renjun narrows his eyes before slightly turning his head to see who nearly destroyed his outfit he spent hours picking out. His eyes lock with sharp brown eyes and he feels his breath catch.

He flushes and averts his gaze. “Just be more careful next time.”

He hears a deep chuckle and a hand squeeze his arm. “My apologies, beautiful,” the man says before walking away. Renjun tries to ignore the man’s scent surrounding him, he smelled nice.

Renjun clears his throat and remembers the mission. He needs to find his toys.

He manages to slip up some stairs and find an empty room where he was told everything was placed. He smiles as he opens the window and retrieves something from the ledge that’s wrapped in cloth. He gently unravels it and is met with a familiar sight. He prefers knives over other weapons like guns. Guns frankly scare him and so much can go wrong with them. Knives are easy and familiar. He grips it, testing the weight. Too bad he’ll have to ditch it, he would have loved to add it to his collection.

A creak behind him catches his attention and he turns around fast, knife in hand, ready to stab whoever dared to try and sneak up on him. But where Renjun is fast, this unknown person is faster. Before Renjun can blink, his knife is dropping to the floor as his arm is pinned behind his back and he finds himself held against the wall.

Ok, he’s had better starts to missions. He hasn’t even stabbed anyone yet.

A familiar deep voice lets out a chuckle right by his ear. He shudders.

“Fancy seeing you again, beautiful.”

Renjun closes his eyes, he really should have seen this coming. He’s usually better at knowing when he’s being watched, but usually the people watching him aren’t hot guys Renjun would have had no problem flirting with in bars. Renjun grits his teeth, but tries his best to relax. He can get out of this.

Renjun giggles, catching the man off guard by the way his grip on Renjun’s arm loosens. “Is this your way of flirting?” He turns his head and locks eyes with the same sharp brown eyes from before. “I like it.”

The man’s eyes soften and he seems to hesitate. Renjun does not hesitate when he jabs his elbow into the man's side and uses his leg to trip him so he falls to the ground with a groan. Renjun is quickly on top of him, knife held against his neck.

Renjun narrows his eyes and tightens his grip on his knife. “What did you just call me?”

Jaemin smirks as he tilts his head. “Do you prefer I call you beautiful? I do like that nickname.”

“Answer the question,” Renjun growls, moving his face closer to Jaemin’s. Jaemin simply observes his face with a smirk on his face before winking and flipping them over. Renjun curses as Jaemin pins his wrist to the floor.

Jaemin grabs the knife from Renjun’s clenched fist and slides it across the room. “I know a lot about you Renjun,” Jaemin smiles as he stares down at Renjun innocently. “I’ll gladly tell you everything I know over dinner, how does that sound?”

A voice in Renjun’s head that suspiciously sounds like Chenle screams no at him.

“Fine.”

Renjun was never good at listening to Chenle anyways.

Jamein’s eyes light up and he swiftly stands up, pulling Renjun up before the boy can even say no. “How does tomorrow at 7 sound? There’s a nice Italian place that opened up downtown.”

Renjun’s not sure how Jaemin was able to switch from pinning Renjun to the ground to casually making dinner plans. His thighs still tingle with the memory of Jaemin’s hand. “I frankly don’t care where we go, just don’t be late,” Renjun glares and steps around Jaemin as he goes to retrieve his knife. He feels Jaemin’s eyes on him as he bends down to pick it up. He turns around. “It’s rude to stare you know.”

Jaemin smirks as he shoves his hand in his pocket and walks towards the door. “Sorry, I’ve just never met a gem as beautiful as you. My eyes can’t help but stare.”

Renjun hums. “Flattery will get you nowhere.”

“Oh honey,” Jaemin says as he opens the door for Renjun. “Flattery gets you everywhere.”

As Renjun passes by Jaemin, the boy plucks his knife out of his hand. Renjun glares and gestures at him to give it back. “I still have a job to do.”

Jaemin tosses the knife in the air before catching it. “And so do we,” Jaemin winks and starts his way down the hallway. “We have it from here.” Right on que, there’s a loud noise coming from downstairs and a second later screams can be heard. “You have,” Jaemin hums as he thinks, “About 10 minutes to leave, I’d suggest going out the window. Until next time.” Jaemin waves before going around the corner, leaving Renjun to stare dumbly at where he just was.

There's the sound of footsteps coming his way so Renjun curses and slips in the room he was just in, right as an army of guards runs by. He grumbles to himself as he takes off his shoes and opens the window, he’s not wearing the right outfit for climbing.

“Renjun? What happened, everything’s crazy in there.”

Renjun sighs as he lands on the ground, nearly tripping. He tugs his shoes back on. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

“I can’t find anything about a Jaemin in here,” Chenle mumbles as he types away on his keyboard. “Are you sure that was his name?”

Renjun shrugs from where he’s going through his closet to find a decent enough outfit for his “date” tonight. There’s not much to choose from, his nicest outfit was what he wore to the party, but he can’t wear that again for obvious reasons. His pocket cries in pain. He didn’t get paid for the job since he technically didn’t do it. The man ended up fine, but he announced his retirement this morning. The people who hired him didn’t want him to retire , they wanted him gone. “That’s the name he gave me. How would I know if he’s telling the truth?”

Chenle closes his laptop and swivels around in his chair to look at Renjun. “You’re not going.”

“I don’t have a choice here,” Renjun mumbles. He technically does, but he’s not telling Chenle that Jaemin intrigues him and he wants to figure him out. “He knows my name, I need to figure out what else he knows!” Chenle gives him an unimpressed look. “For our safety!”

“Was he hot?”

“That’s not the point!”

Chenle smirks, having gotten the answer he wanted. “Keep your earpiece on.”

Renjun narrows his eyes. “You want to spy on us?”

Chenle gives him a look. “Yes, I want to spy on your date–of course not! I just want to make sure my best friend doesn’t end up murdered because he wanted to get laid!”

Renjun blushes. “T-That’s not what’s happening here!”

Chenle rolls his eyes. “Right, just please keep me updated. And bring one of your knives for God’s sake.”

It’s Renjun’s turn to give him a look. “Of course I’m bringing one of my knives, who do you think I am?”

⭐️

Someone’s loaded, Renjun thinks as he’s led to a private room. When Jaemin invited him to dinner, he wasn’t expecting him to rent a private room. It makes him more itchy and he reaches for his side, making sure his knife is still securely there.

“Renjun?”

Renjun jumps and glares at the waitress. “How do you know my name?” He instantly regrets it when the waitress shrinks.

“W-We were told that’s who will be dining with us tonight.”

Right Renjun, calm down. They’re not just going to let anyone back here. “Right, thank you,” Renjun says with a smile he hopes calms their nerves. It doesn’t and the waitress quickly points him in the right direction and scurries away.

“Scaring the staff, Renjun?”

Renjun turns to see Jaemin leaning against a wall with his arms crossed. His eyes look Renjun up and down, and suddenly Renjun is self conscious. Where Jaemin is wearing a fancy suit, Renjun doesn’t own anything nearly as nice beside the outfit he wore the other night. Everything he earns from his “jobs” usually goes to rent, food, and Chenle’s and his tuition. He doesn’t have the room to buy fancy clothes. Jaemin seems to sense his discomfort and gently grabs Renjun’s elbow to guide him into the room.

“You look wonderful,” he whispers into Renjun’s ear before pulling back and pulling out Renjun’s seat.

Renjun takes the seat and nervously plays with his fingers, realizing he’s in a secluded room with a hot man that may or may not be an assassin like him.

Assassin’s can be nervous too.

Jaemin doesn’t have the same problem as Renjun since he takes his own seat across from the other boy and opens up his menu. After a moment, Renjun does the same until he realizes he’s not here for food and slams the menu down. Jaemin doesn’t jump at the noise, only lowers his menus and raises an eyebrow. “Found something you like? Order anything you want, it’s all on me.”

Renjun will remember to order the most expensive wine on this menu for him and Chenle to have later. “Why do you know so much about me?”

Jaemin observes him for a moment before setting his menu down and resting his hand under his chin. “I thought we could have a lovely dinner first, but I guess we can start the interrogation.” Renjun crosses his arm and glares at Jaemin until he answers his question. “Huang Renjun, you go to the university around here. Arts major I believe?”

Renjun stares at him, stunned. “How do you?”

Jaemin smiles. “You go to school with my younger brother, I’ve seen you when I go to drop him off sometimes. When I asked, he told me your name.”

Renjun blinks at him. “That's it?”

“That’s it,” Jaemin laughs.

Renjun groans and runs a hand down his face. “I thought some secret organization was finally coming after me!” Jaemin’s laughing continues and Renjun grabs his menus and reaches across the table to smack his head. “Stop laughing! You seriously worried me!”

Jaemin finally calms down his laughter and grabs the menu out of Renjun’s hand so he can’t whack him anymore. “Sorry beautiful, I thought I could finally use this as a chance to ask you out. I mean,” Jaemin gives him a smirk and Renjun feels his cheeks flush. “What are the odds that we both happen to have shady jobs? It’s fate if you ask me.”

Renjun rolls his eyes, but before he can say anything, there’s a knock at the door and the waitress from before is setting down their drinks with a simple “enjoy” before leaving. Jaemin stares at the drinks blankly while Renjun picks one up. “I don’t know about fate, but it definitely is an odd coincidence.” He goes to take a sip, that is before Jaemin’s hand quickly grabs his wrist to stop him. Renjun gives him a peculiar look. “What’s wrong?”

Jaemin narrows his eyes at the drink and picks it up, giving it a sniff.

“We haven't ordered our drinks yet.”

“Oh.” Renjun sets his drink down. Both Renjun and Jaemin share a similar look and then they’re both standing up and rushing to the door. “Locked,” Renjun growls as he kicks the door.

Jaemin gives him an amused look before gently placing his hands on his hip and moving him to the side. “Excuse me, beautiful, I got this. Do you happen to have a bobby pin on you?” Renjun nods his head and takes one out of his hair, handing it to Jaemin. He expects Jaemin to just take it and get on with his plan, but the boy smiles and grabs his hand,  flipping it over and planting a kiss on his knuckles. “Thank you gorgeous.” He admires the flush on Renjun’s cheeks for a moment and then turns back around to unlock the door. It opens with a soft click. Jaemin takes his hand and guides him into the hallway, motioning for him to be quiet. Renjun nods his head.

The first thing Renjun notices is how eerily quiet it is. Nobody else is occupying any of the rooms and the usual staff that should be walking up and down their hallways are nowhere to be seen. They finally hear footsteps and Renjun grabs Jaemin’s arm and tugs him into one of the empty rooms. Renjun puts his back to the wall and waits until the footsteps get closer before reaching out and grabbing the person while Jaemin shuts the door. Renjun motions for Jaemin to hand him the tie currently around his neck and Jaemin does with a frown. “It’s silk, be careful.”

Renjun rolls his eyes and ties the person's hands together as tightly as he can. Once that’s done, they turn the person around and find it’s the same waitress as before on the verge of tears. Renjun and Jaemin exchange a look, looks like the tie wasn’t needed after all. Renjun frees the waitresses hand and Jaemin holds his hand out expectantly, but Renjun’s feeling a little fancy so he ties it around himself instead. Jaemin glares and Renjun sticks his tongue out while the waitress just looks at them confused. They make an odd pair in the eyes of strangers, he’s sure.

Letting it go for now, Jaemin turns to the waitress. Where Renjun has been admittedly cold to the waitress, Jaemin is soft and sends her a smile. Instantly she relaxes and Renjun can literally see the heart eyes. “Mind telling me what’s going on, beauti-” Jaemin lets out a cough when he notices the glare Renjun is sending him. Smooth motherfucker. “Er, miss?”

The waitress doesn't seem deterred at all and still blushes. “A group of people barged in here and kicked nearly everyone out except for the staff. They told me to give you those drinks and lock your door, I-I promise it wasn’t my p-plan-” Jaemin puts a finger to the waitresses lips, letting out a soft “shh” noise. Renjun kicks the back of his leg with a glare, but Jaemin doesn’t even flinch and the waitress only blushes more.

“It’s fine, can you tell me where they are?” She nods and explains that they’re held up in her boss's office. Jaemin gives her a smile for her troubles. “Thank you miss, now stay here while we go handle this, can you do that for me?” She nods and blushes even more , god Jaemin really does have people just wrapped around his finger. He’ll make sure to remember that.

Renjun scoffs and turns around, scoping out the hallway before walking out. He raises an eyebrow at Jaemin. “You coming?”

Jaemin sends the waitress one last smile before joining Renjun outside the door. Once the door is shut he finally grimaces and rubs the back of his leg. “You’re violent when you're jealous, did you know that?”

Renjun lets out a gasp. “I was not jealous! I’m sorry I don’t flirt with potential enemies,” Renjun pouts with his arms crossed.

Jaemin coos and pulls him into his arms. “Aww, does my little Renjunnie think I would want somebody else?” His voice drops, “I only want you,” he whispers.

Renjun blushes and wiggles out of his arms. “Let’s go,” he mutters, ignoring Jaemin’s laugh. “So, who's this group that’s after you?”

Jaemin grimaces as he rubs the back of his head. “What makes you think they’re after me and not you?”

“Jaemin, I’ve been doing this for years and not a single soul has once tried to get me outside of work, but the moment I have dinner with you, it happens?” Renjun gives him an unamused look. “Spill.”

Jaemin sighs in defeat. “I used to work for them, but they weren’t too happy when I quit.”

Renjun laughs, “Well, seeing how they tried to poison you and me, I would say you pissed them off.” Renjun lets out a groan when a thought hits him, Jaemin seems to have the same one since he gives Renjun a guilty look.

“Looks like I dragged you into this, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”

Renjun shrugs. As long as Chenle doesn’t get dragged into this and Renjun can eventually go back to classes, it doesn’t matter to him. Speaking of Chenle, he pulls out his phone to text the boy. Maybe he can help.

A hand reaches out and lowers his phone, “No need to bring anyone else into this. I already texted my partner, he’s the only outside help we need.” Renjun gives him an unsure look. Jaemin smiles, “Trust me.”

After a few more moments of walking, they finally spot someone. Renjun gestures for Jaemin to stay put and he does despite his curious stares. Renjun was never the best actor, but he usually doesn’t have to be that believable. He puts on his best distressed face and starts running down the hallways, looking behind him in fear.

“Hey, stop right there!” Renjun notices the gun strapped to his waist, so they’re armed, good to know.

“Oh thank god,” he pretends to be relieved and clutches onto the man’s arm. “I was so scared! I’m so glad you’re here,” he hugs the man's arm to his chest and flutters his eyelashes. He holds back the smirk when he sees the blush on the man’s cheek and the way he hesitates. His hand let go of the gun he was clutching at his side.

“It’s ok, you’re safe now.”

Renjun gives him a flirty smile. “I’m glad.” He pretends to look around nervously, “W-What’s going on?”

The man hesitates, but one more flirty smile is enough to get him to crack. “We’re not here to hurt anybody, we’re just-” He’s interrupted when Jaemin pulls him away from Renjun and punches him in the face. He goes down with a groan, completely limp against the wall.

Renjun gives him an incredulous look. “Jaemin?! What was that for!”

Jaemin gives him the same look back. “I thought you were in trouble!”

“Why would you think that?!”

“I don’t know! He was touching you and everything,” Jaemin glares at the limp body, bending down and grabs the gun on his waist.

“I’m the one who grabbed him!” Renjun groans as he pinches the bridge of his nose. “He was telling me good information!”

Jaemin turns his glare to Renjun. “Well, he didn’t have to touch you,” he grumbles.

“Now who’s the one that’s jealous!” Renjun smugly says as he pokes Jaemin’s chest. Jaemin ignores him and starts guiding him towards the exit. “Where are we going?” Renjun asks, confused. “I don’t think they’re over here?”

Jaemin shakes his head. “They’re not, but I put you through enough trouble as it is. My partner is already in there taking care of business, I want you to go home. Now,” he adds on when Renjun opens his mouth to protest.

Renjun pouts. “But I want to help!”

Jaemin smiles at him and tucks a stray piece of hair behind his ear. “You helped out plenty, beautiful. I know you’re perfectly capable of taking care of yourself, but this is my mess to clean up.” When Renjun doesn’t budge, Jaemin continues. “Don’t you have somebody waiting for you at home? You don’t want them getting dragged into this either, do you?”

Renjun falters at that. “Ok fine, but,” Renjun grabs a napkin and a pen from around the room and jots down something.

Jaemin cracks a smile as he tucks the napkin safely into his back pocket. “What’s that for?”

Renjun knows Jaemin knows the answer, but Renjun answers anyway. “That’s my phone number and address, if you’re in any trouble, come visit and I’ll fix you up.” Renjun flicks his forehead, “But if you bring any baddies with you, I’ll murder you myself.”

Jaemin grins and grabs Renjun’s hand to plant another kiss there. “I would never put you in danger.”

“I wish I could say the same, but I did hold a knife to your throat about 24 hours ago.”

Jaemin lets out a full gorgeous laugh. “I like them feisty, you’re forgiven,” he winks. “Now off you go.”

Renjun hesitates, but one more smile from Jaemin has him running out the door and into the cold night’s air.

⭐️

When Renjun told Jaemin that he could visit at any time, he didn’t mean only 6 hours later at 1 in the morning.

Renjun hears the soft knocking at their front door and puts on his fox slippers and makes his way to the door. When he opens it, he nearly screams.

Jaemin, clothes tattered with some bits of dried blood on it and face slightly bruised up, gives Renjun his best attempt at a smile. “Does that offer still stand?”

Renjun rolls his eyes and tugs him into the room, making sure to glance down the hallway to check if he was followed. Once the coast is clear, he shuts the door and guides Jaemin to the bathroom. “If you get any blood on the carpet, I’ll kill you!” He harshly whispers so they don’t wake up Chenle with all their noise.

Jaemin stiffles his laugh with his hand and allows Renjun to sit him down. “Is your carpet more important than me?”

Renjun gives him a “duh” look. “Of course, I’ve only known you for two days. You need a little bit longer until you go up my priority list.” Jaemin grins at him and Renjun sighs as he cups his cheek, rubbing a thumb gently over a bruise. Jaemin winces. “Alright, let’s get you fixed up,” Renjun whispers with a smile.

“Owie! Renjunnie, that hurt,” Jaemin pouts.

“Oh stop it you big baby!” Renjun scowls as he puts a hello kitty band aid over the cut on his cheek. Jaemin’s choice actually. “There, you’re all good now.” Renjun smiles at his handiwork, giggling at the sight of Jaemin covered in pink band aids with cats all over them.

Jaemin smirks and wraps his arms around Renjun’s waist, tugging the boy onto his lap. “Mmm, actually it still hurts,” he pouts, giving Renjun the softest eyes ever.

Renjun can’t help it and frowns. “What, where? Let me see.” He goes to get up to examine Jaemin more, to find where it hurts, but Jaemin stops him by tightening his grip around his waist. “This can’t be fixed with a hello kitty band aid, it needs a special kind of cure.”

Renjun tilts his head, confused. “What kind of cure?”

Jaemin leans towards Renjun’s ear. “The kind of cure that involved me being kissed by a really beautiful boy.”

Renjun squints. “I don’t think that’s how injuries work, my kisses won’t help in that department.”

“It’ll help right here,” Jaemin whines as he places a hand over his heart.

Renjun gives in and smiles. He pretends to think as he wraps his arms around Jaemin’s neck. “Well, if you think it’ll help.”

“It’ll help sooooo much,” he grins as he leans towards Renjun’s lips. “So, will you let me kiss you?” He whispers.

“Since you asked so nicely,” Renjun says with a smile then connects their lips. Despite Jaemin walking into his apartment with tattered clothes and bruises, his lips are soft and nice. He wishes he could kiss Jaemin for hours, thoroughly exploring his mouth, but a voice makes them part.

“Renjun, why is there dried blood on our–” Chenle peeks into the bathroom and immediately shrieks when he locks eyes with Jaemin.

Jaemin kisses Renjun for a few seconds longer before parting and giving Chenle a wave. “Hey, I’m Jaemin, Renjun’s future assassin boyfriend.

Renjun face palms.
