Chapter Text
The recorder clicked on signaling the beginning of the interview.
Tsukauchi at the other end of the table looked at the small green haired and eyed boy who simply scowled back. He sets down the recorder between them and begins to speak. "Today's date is 20XX, Febuary 18th, tuesday at 12:23 pm, i am detective Tsukauchi Naomasa conducting the interview at stillwater prison with inmate #9. I am legally required to tell you, my quirk 'Lie Detector' will be active during this conversation. Do you consent to the recording of this conversation?" Tsukauchi asks the boy. "Like i have a choice..." the boy grumbles. His voice sounds like that of a child's, couldn't be older than 14. The man sighs and says "i need a yes or no." The boy sighs as well and begrudgingly answers "yeah, sure." "alright, then please state your name for the recording, and then we can begin."
"...Midoriya Izuku"
"True. May you please recite the events that led up to your arrest Midoriya-kun?" Tsukauchi asked
"Should I start from the vigilantism or the robbery I happened to be just a little too close to." the boy says, sounding very upset.
"Let's start from the vigilantism. what pushed you to go that route Midoriya-kun?"
"Probably the fact that Endeavor was being an asshole like usual and couldn't watch the direction of his stupid attacks!" the boy almost growls out.
"I'm going to need you to be more exact, Midoriya-kun."
Midoriya-kun scoffs and does not answer. For a moment Tsukauchi thinks that he wont get anything from him until he speaks again, sounding like he is clenching his teeth. "He had a fight near our home."
"Our?" the Tsukauchi inquires.
Midoriya-kun is silent for a moment again before saying, with the same previous tone "...Me and my mother."
"True. What is your mothers name?"
"...Midoriya Inko."
"True, and what happened when Endeavor was in a fight with a villain near your home?"
Silence once more. "...He missed a shot at the villain and it hit our building...She didn't make it out."
"True. My condolences, Midoriya-kun. May you tell me what happened afterward?" the man asked.
Midoriya-kun shifts a bit. "...The building burnt down and i was homeless, and living on the streets for 3 years."
"True," the man states. "Did endeavor not try to correct the situation?"
"No, cause that would just be a waste of the ~great~ number 2 hero's time..." the greenette practically growls out.
"True... so where did you live after this ?"
"I lived on the streets obviously." Midoriya-kun snapped.
"I mean were there any places you would stay at and keep your things."
"No, i kept all of my stuff in bags that i carried with me."
"True, and where did you put your stuff during school hours?"
"Never said i went to school." The greenette scoffed.
"Your files show that you had a perfect attendence." Tsukuchi explains.
Midoriya-kun sighs. "I would hide it in various places. The ceiling boards, the trees, on the roof. Anywhere i could find that others most likely wouldn't."
"True, and when did you begin doing your vigilante activities?"
"I'm not a vigilante."
Tsukauchi is quiet for a second before saying "I beg your pardon?"
"I'm. Not. A. Vigilante." Midoriya-kun repeats slowly.
A few more seconds of silence. "May you please explain what makes you think that, Midoriya-kun?" Tsukauchi asks, clearly confused.
"The law clearly states that vigilantism is 'the illegal use of ones quirk to do heroic acts.' You can't claim i used something i dont even have." The boy answers sounding slightly tense. Perhaps he's had bad reactions from others when pointing out they are wrong.
"... im going to pause the recording for a moment."
The recording clicks off, then back on.
"Alright, your statements are true. Then may you please tell me when you began..." Tsukauchi sounds like hes struggling to find the right words. "...Protecting others?"
"It was about 3 to 4 days later." Midoriya-kun answers sounding ever so slightly smug. "I was walking around later than usual, and i heard a sound coming from an alley i was coming up to."
"True," the man confirms. "Continue please."
"He's oddly polite." The boy notes, mumbling seemingly to himself. "I walked over and saw a lady with a fairy mutation, being assaulted by some drunk guy with a minor ice quirk. He had frozen her wrists to the wall and had a sharp piece of ice near her throat. When i saw it my feet just moved, putting myself between them and shoving the man away. He then lunged at me trying to attack me, so i dodged, looked around for a suitable weapon, and then hit him with a broken table leg from the dumpster."
"True, do you think you could have been charged with assault for that act?" The detective questions.
"No," Midoriya-kun answers, sounding smug again. "The man attacked me first, and i only used an amount of violence nessasary to protect myself."
"True, what happened with the victim afterwards?"
"I broke the ice on her wrists, helped warm her hands up, and walked her home."
"True. From what ive read in your file you would often run heros and police officers out of the undercity, why is that?"
"They were using their power wrongly, and would often use excessive force arresting prostitutes."
"True. Do you believe you could have been charged with obstruction of justice for those acts?"
"Possibly, but i would only receive minor punishment, such as juvie, considering i was stil under the age of 10."
"True, and what about when your arrest happend? What was the situation that led to your arrest?"
"Well, i was patrolling one night, and i saw some robbers being put into a police car and endeav-whore talking to the cops there. Then, that flaming pile of shit, turned and saw me in the alleyway and shot a huge fireball at me without any kind of warning." The greenette says, sounding highly annoyed and slightly frightened. It was most likely a traumatic experience.
"True." Tsukauchi confirms.
"I only had time to put my arms up as it was almost point blank, and while i was clutching my left arm, he picked me up roughly and threw me into on of the cop cars saying 'Take that thing too.'"
"...True." the man says sounding angry. He was probably furious about such horrid behaviour. "And what about your trial?"
"What trial?" The boy asks.
"...Your...trial?" Tsukauchi asks confused. "To decide what crimes you were guilty of and what sentence you would serve." Tsukauchi explains.
"What kind of fairy land do you come from buddy?" The boy asks in a mocking tone. "Quirkless people don't get such luxuries, we get whatever people with more power throw at us so long as we are too weak to fight back. Such as, jail time for crimes we didn't commit."
"...True." Tsukauchi confirms sounding distraught.
"So, we done here?" Midoriya-kun asks sounding bored.
"Not quite, i would like to ask about your school life. How were you treated by your peers?"
The boy is silent for a moment. "Should be on my file, no? Im sure the teachers said plenty."
"Yes but id like to get confirmation if you don't mind."
Silence again. "I was the quirkless outcast, and was either avoided or antagonized daily."
"True. May you please elaborate? How exactly would your peers antagonize you?" Tsukauchi asks.
"They would steal and/or break my school supplies, push me into things, trip me, leave spider lilies on my desk, physically assault me, you know the usual."
"True... in what ways would they physically assault you?" The detective asked sounding very wary.
"At first they would just hit me, but a bit before i got arrested they had started using their quirks to cause more damage."
"True." Tsukauchi says angrily. "How did your teachers deal with that?"
"They didn't."
"...True. how did your teachers treat you in general?"
"They would constantly ignore any bullying they were close enough to witness, they would publicly point out any mistakes i made in anything in front of the whole classroom, would give me work that was grades above my peers, fail me for answers i am 98% sure i got correct, 'lose' my work constantly and make me redo it, and often encourage the bullying if not join in on it."
"...true." Tsukauchi's voice shakes.
"You ok? You're lookin a little greener than me."
"I'm fine." He answers sounding not fine.
"Liar. Your eye twitched." The boy points out.
"It is unimportant." The boy clicks his tounge in response, most likely seeing the man's eye twitch again. "How are you treated here at stillwater prison?"
"Oh well im just treated fine and dandy don't cha know?" Midoriya-kun says mockingly.
"I need you to be honest Midoriya-kun."
"Oh phooie your no fun," the boy says. "Well im treated as any other inmate by the others, beaten and berated if i show weakness, and the gaurds simply dont care to stop anything if their not joining in on it themselves. So like school pretty much. Wow i guess school really is like a prison huh?"
"...True. May you elaborate on what the gaurds do?"
"They will ignore fights they see unless i fight back, since it quote unquote, 'ruins the fun'. And when they are bored they will come to my, or others cells to beat us."
"...True. Can you tell me any names or faces that come to your cell?"
"Nope. They all wear those stupid mask things and don't have nametags."
"True. Well that is all i needed from this interview. Thank you for your cooperation, Midoriya-kun."
"Yeah whatever just go already before the gaurds think better of it."
"Then i shall end the recording."
The recorder clicks off.
"Hm. That is quite concerning yes." Nezu says.
"Is there anything else you need from me sir?" Tsukauchi asks.
"No, this should be more than enough. Thank you for your time detective."
"Anytime Nezu. You know where to find me if anything comes up."
Tsukauchi bows and then exits the office, the door closing automatically behind him.
"Now, this is going to be a bit of a busy week." Nezu says with a sadistic smile, showing rows of sharp white teeth, and a gleam in his eyes that promises danger.
It will be a long week indeed.
