As Christmas rolled around in the afterlife, Scott and Jimmy began planning what they were going to do to celebrate. It had been, to say the least, a rough couple of months, the death games had kicked this strange series of events to a horrific start full of death and horrors that haunted their dreams. In the time following their deaths, and their spawn in the afterlife, Scott and Jimmy had worked to build the perfect home for themselves.
However, there was only so much they could do, the strange, magical barriers still stood strong, confining them to a very limited area of land. This made it easier to navigate but unfortunately it meant working through the memories that came with walking across it, a lot had happened here. Together, Scott and Jimmy tried to find ways to entertain themselves, picking up new hobbies, setting each other challenges, who could find the most of a certain flower type outside of their home, who could make it to the top of BigB’s hill the fastest, etc.
That last one was how they came to be in the position they were in now, Jimmy stood proudly at the top of the hill with Scott quickly in pursuit.
“Dammit Jimmy-” Scott said, out of breath from rushing after Jimmy up the steep slope.
“Now Scott, don’t I have the perfect forfeit for you…” Jimmy said, giggling slightly at the confused look on Scott’s face.
“Oh, come on! Is having to admit defeat not enough of a forfeit? Or maybe this is gonna be something else…” Scott said, smiling suggestively before breaking into laughter.
“Hey- you- no!” Jimmy stammered, his face a little red. “No, the forfeit is, you gotta help me build a sledge as a method of transport down this hill.”
Scott groaned, “Really? Surely you know how bad of an idea that is right?”
“Yep, but you lost, so you gotta take the forfeit, come on there should be some wood at BigB’s.”
Scott trailed behind Jimmy, complaining the whole way along the short walk to BigB’s old base, kicking the snow around like a moody toddler. When they got there they found that there was indeed, enough wood for a sledge so they set about building it. It was a bit of a process and Jimmy most definitely did a few things wrong but by the end they had a boxy platform thing that vaguely resembled a sledge and just for fun Scott had tied a little red ribbon around one plank.
“Alright Jimmy, If I break any bones on this journey, all the blame goes on you, okay? Okay.” Jimmy simply laughed, climbing atop of the sledge and motioning for Scott to do the same.
From here at the top of the hill they had a good view over the surrounding land, BigB picked his base well. They could see the trees all coated in an even layer of snow like something out of a painting, small clumps of mistletoe sticking out (Jimmy would have to grab some of that later that’s for sure). Even Dogwarts, an area filled with so many bad memories and stained with blood somehow managed to look like it was out of some miniature Christmas sculpture, the buildings all snowy and the market stalls out the front not too different from that of a Christmas market. It was beginning to make Jimmy miss the world he’d come from before he joined these stupid games. He looked back at Scott, remembering what he’s gained from this; a husband, an amazing loving husband who he wouldn’t trade for any other world.
“Okay, let’s go!” And with that he gave them a small push over the edge and wrapped his arms tightly around Scott while Scott held onto the sledge. The sledge, surprisingly, did not immediately fall to pieces which Jimmy honestly considered a win. The wind whipping through his hair was thrilling, as was watching the landscape fly by around them. As they neared the bottom Jimmy felt the sledge slowly begin to tilt before tipping entirely leaving the two in a small heap on the ground.
“Never again.” Scott said determinedly, his eyes still squeezed tight shut and Jimmy laughed, shifting over to give the other a small nudge, resulting in Scott lying in the snow now.
“Snow angel time?” Jimmy said, laughter in his voice, taking advantage of Scott’s current position.
“You’re lucky you’re cute Jimmy, no one else would get away with this shit,” he said with a smirk, spreading out his arms and legs and beginning his snow angel with a smile, Jimmy quickly following suit.
As it began to get dark they slowly made their way back towards their little hobbit hole homes, stopping to gaze in awe at the reflection of the stars in the lake. Despite it being winter, it was still fairly mild and in their simple coats they found that it was warm enough to sit out for a little while, enjoying the peaceful night.
“I think we should put the Christmas tree there this Christmas,” Jimmy says quietly, turning to face Scott.
“Yeah, that’ll look really good, and lights along the wall? That would look so cute.”
“Mhm, yeah and some on the entrance to the houses as well.”
“And the windows.”
“And the trees.”
“Too many lights?”
“Never too many lights.”
“We could totally make flower crown wreaths for the doors.”
“Ohh yeahh!”
They stayed up late into the night planning, this was gonna be a good Christmas.
