"They do seem to be getting bigger" Wilbur commented, his chilled fingers delicately running down his boyfriends right wing. Tommy hummed in acknowledgment, flexing his left wing slightly before fully extending it. His wing span did seem to have increased quite a bit in the last few months and whether that was from his and Phil's training or just getting older was up for debate. He liked to think the training helped because he didn't want to think he was almost 19 and still growing into his adult feathers.
"Because Phil is making me an even bigger man" he declared, his voice sure and leaving little room for debate. The phantom offered an endeared smile at the words as he gently adjusted a few feathers and their placement. He knew they had to be adjusted just right for the blonds optimal performance and comfort.
"Mm, but the color is changing too," he pointed out, making Tommy's cheeks darken to a rosey pink shade. It was true of course. Some of his longer feathers had gone from their beautiful off white cream color to more of a pale brown around the base, fading out into cream. The same change had also begun affecting the few tail feathers that were popping up around his lower back and hips. "Like a chicken," Wilbur teased, shifting another feather. They did resemble chicken feathers to a degree.
"Shut up" he mumbled, blush deepening with every laugh that left the brunette's mouth. "Chickens can't fly" he defended himself, and Wilbur playfully tugged at one of his primary feathers.
"Neither can you~" Wilbur continued his gentle teasing. Tommy hid any facial reaction well, but unfortunately his wings gave him away, the muscles tensing and pulling them in slightly. Wilbur paused, picking a newly revealed twig from his lover's feathers and raising a curious brow. ".. Something you wanna tell me, Toms?" He asked, smiling gently.
"I did actually.. Fly a bit" he revealed, eyes trained on his mud stained legs as he thought back to the previous day's training. He had actually gotten into the air and managed to stay up for a little over a minute. It wasn't anything like Phil's impressive leaps into the skies or his expert soaring through the trees. But it was something he had never been able to do and that's what mattered. Before he could say anything else Wilbur was pulling him against his chest, wrapping him in a tight hug from behind.
"Thats fucking awesome Tommy" he practically cheered, making Tommy blush bright red. "C'mon, you should show me" he encouraged, and the blond rolled his eyes, glancing behind him.
"Maybe if you start preening and stop yapping I will" he joked, shoving his wing out and intentionally brushing Wilburs face with his feathers. Wilbur rolled his eyes but continued, knowing he was almost done anyway. They stayed relatively silent for a few minutes before the phantom just couldn't help himself, smirking as he spoke up.
"You know, the better you get at flying the better you can ride me" he pointed out, and Tommy snorted out a small laugh.
"Is that seriously what you've been thinking so hard about back there?" He asked, fully pulling both wings back in once he felt Wilburs work was sufficient enough. Wilbur gave a small but charming grin, offering nothing but a little shrug to go with it. He couldn't be blamed for such thoughts, Tommy was a stunning avian and the phantom never stopped thinking those types of things about him.
"That'd actually be a bit hot" Tommy mumbled after a moment of deliberation on the subject. He could totally see himself riding the older man, legs and arms becoming jelly and no longer aiding him. That would normally be when Wilbur would take over, either flipping them so he was on top or just fucking up into the often doazed blond. But using his wings to keep himself going could actually be a bit cool. "You're a real perv Wilby'' he accused, turning himself fully to lean in and kiss the taller man's jaw. Wilbur hummed, appreciatively.
"Right, well you can call me out later. Right now I wanna see what those wings can do" he reminded, hand coming to Tommy's cheek and leading his face up for a real kiss. Tommy melted into it, looking absolutely dazed by the time Wilbur pulled back. "C'mon, show me" he ushered. Tommy huffed but didn't argue, pushing himself off of the ground and brushing off his knees gently.
"Fine… it's not much though" he warned, suddenly a bit insecure. Wilbur would never judge him beyond their playful teasing and banter, he knew that. But there was always the part of him that would judge himself if he messed up in front of the phantom. Still, he gave himself a second and took a steadying breath, wings beginning to rhythmically beat behind him. As soon as they had a steady pace he hopped slightly, trusting that his wings would hold his weight up. He fought the urge to squeeze his eyes shut, and he was happy he did. The look in Wilbur's eyes was worth it. Happy, impressed and wholly in love with the avian.
"That's amazing babe!" He exclaimed, watching as the blond did his best to keep himself steady in the air. It only lasted a bit under a minute this time around, and after that he was ready to land. Since Tommy had yet to work out a proper landing strategy in his last training session he had just let himself drop and tumble to the ground, as gently as he could. It wasn't gentle at all. Wilbur kneeled down by the blonds' side, wearing a shit eating grin.
"So.. Is this why your wings were so dirty?" He asked, and Tommy blushed.
"Maybe you should have caught me,'' he countered, pretending to be annoyed with the older creature. Wilbur laughed at that, leaning down to press a few kisses to Avian's cheek and jawline.
"Had you warned me you were just gonna drop dead I might have tried" he shrugged, making Tommy's false contempt fade away and get replaced with his usual beaming joy. "You really need to work on your landings though" Wilbur added, pulling the blond up so he was sitting instead of just laying on the ground on his back.
"One thing at a time Will, lets just take more time to appreciate that I can be airborne, yeah?" He prompted, hugging onto the Spector. Wilbur nodded in agreement, once again voicing his pride and cuddling up to the hybrid. Tommy considered this a win, because honestly it was much more than he thought he could do.
