Ever since the trial where Prosecutor Godot was sentenced for the death of Misty Fey, Miles and Phoenix have hung out together more often after patching up their friendship and exploring a relationship between them. It had been several months since that case, and Maya and Pearl had to go back to their village to continue their training and for Maya to be named Master now that her mother was gone.
While Phoenix and Edgeworth had their own cases to work as well, they found peace and fun in each other's company when they had the chance. It was once again spring and while it had started to warm up in the area, the skies began to become overcast as well with clouds.
It did not bother the two though as they went out and about the town, mostly going down memory lane of what changed and stayed the same from when they were kids. Occasionally they would run into Larry, but most of the time he was busy with hopping from part time job to part time job or with a new girlfriend of his, so these days off were rarely interrupted.
"... Haha, yeah, I still don't know how he ended up like that," Phoenix laughed as they were sharing stories of the other man now they didn't have to worry about him getting upset at them for it. Edgeworth gave an amused huff.
"Some mysteries are best left unsolved, Wright, and I think we can agree that's one of them," he said with a shrug, "The restaurant is just up ahead, not too far," he mentioned, seeing where they were compared to where the restaurant they decided to go to was. He stopped as the sky let loose a torrent of rain, frowning, "I was afraid of that," he muttered, knowing they should have brought an umbrella since the weather girl had said there was a chance of rain in the coming days.
"We should get go-" he stopped walking forward when he felt a hand grasp his quickly, trembling slightly. He looked to the other man who was shaking like he was soaked to the bone even though it only started and was about to scold him when he saw those blue eyes filled with fear and then he remembered.
Phoenix had fallen into the rushing river waters unexpected and after falling forty feet to it.
Edgeworth himself could relate, remembering how terrified he felt whenever the ground underneath his feet shook and whenever he was suddenly plunged into complete darkness. And with it being so fresh in the defense attorney's mind, well it would happen to anyone in such a situation.
He let go as Phoenix did when he realized what he did, Phoenix starting to sputter out apologies as Edgeworth took off his coat, putting it over Phoenix's head and wrapping an arm around him to lead him, "Come, let's get somewhere dry," he murmured, his face flushing but rationalizing it to himself that it was just the change in temperature.
Phoenix's face was flushed as well, flustered but letting Edgeworth lead him to a covered bus stop out of the rain, "E-edge- no, Miles... Thank you... And I really am sorry..." he muttered, huffing a bit as Edgeworth began wiping his cheeks like a kid that had sauce over his face from eating spaghetti.
"Phoenix, I know that what happened to you was traumatic. Even though you had wanted to check on Miss Fey, it was not your fault you were traumatized by water like that. I do not blame you. The only thing you should be doing is looking into therapy for it," Edgeworth told him softly, his hand moving his jacket out of the way so he could cup the other's cheek to keep him from looking away, "Your trauma does not make you who you are, your actions do, and you are a brave, stupid maybe, but brave man who wanted to make sure his friend was safe that day." he reminded him.
Phoenix watched him, relaxing under his hand on his shoulder and lightly leaning into the one at his cheek, feeling a weight roll off of him as he closed his eyes in Edgeworth's comfort, "Thanks Miles... Know that I'm here for you too..." he murmured.
