Chapter Text
Jimin was graduating today. Finally, he completed his degree in contemporary dance major, his lifelong dream was on the verge of being fulfilled.
This day was supposed to be one of the happiest days of his life, but all he felt was melancholy. He couldn’t help but think of his parents, how proud they would’ve been if only they could see him now. He is sure that his appa would’ve surely brought an enormous bouquet and whistled during his certificate acceptance, making him feel both embarrassed and elated. His eomma would've looked at him with prideful eyes and told him, “See? I always knew you can do it!”
He broke out of these thoughts when the loud voices of the other students started becoming more clear. When he stepped into the auditorium, he saw students with their families, a look of pure happiness on their faces. He was getting lost in his thoughts once again when a huge bouquet blocked his vision. He turned around with a gasp, seeing his uncle standing in front of him with a huge grin on his face. Jimin jumped in his arms to hug him tightly and choked out, “Uncle! You came!”
The alpha scoffed good-naturedly and replied, “Hey now that’s offensive Jiminie! How did you even think that I won’t?” Jimin looked down embarrassed when another set of hands covered his eyes from behind. He didn’t even need to smell the sweet Jasmine scent before he started jumping in joy, his eyes still covered and all of his sadness forgotten within a second.
“Hyung!”, he pried the hands off of his face and turned to hug the older omega, squeezing him tightly while trying not to start tearing up from being in the embrace of his favourite person in the world after so long. Yoongi squeezed him even tighter in return with a big smile on his face, the kind that only his loving younger brother could bring out.
“I missed you Minnie”, he whispered. Jimin started sniffling at that, finding it even harder to keep his emotions at bay after hearing those words.
“Me too hyung. I’m so happy that you came even though it’s so far from home”, Jimin mumbled back.
“Now now, let’s not start the crying fest already. You haven’t even received your certificate yet and we don’t want to end up taking ugly photos afterwards”, his uncle bellowed, making both of the omegas burst into laughter. Yoongi cupped his cheeks and said, “You know I wouldn’t miss it for the world Minnie, no matter how far it is. I’m so proud of you.”
Jimin opened his mouth to answer when a booming voice on the loudspeakers announced that the graduation ceremony would be starting shortly, requesting the guests to take their seats and students to go and get ready to take their positions backstage.
Yoongi smiled at jimin and pushed him softly towards the stage. As Jimin started walking, he felt happy and content to have his uncle and hyung with him on this day. He felt another small pang in his chest at the thought that his aunt didn’t show up, but he quickly brushed that thought aside. Jimin had learnt to be content with less than enough years ago anyway.
A few days after the graduation ceremony, Jimin was finally packing his luggage. It was time for him to finally leave the dorms, his home for the last four years.
He felt a sudden emptiness inside at the thought. There was very little in this world that Jimin could consider solely as his, as something permanent. The house he lived in with his parents during his childhood was long gone, sold years ago. It was not ideal for a young unpresented pup to live in a house by himself, and even more risky after he presented as an omega. So he had to make the journey with his uncle to the Jeon pack, far away from his previous home and the only place where he would be welcomed in.
His uncle adopted him legally and wanted to keep the house in his name while bearing his expenses himself. Jimin didn’t understand much and was okay with it, until one day, a couple of years after he moved in, he woke up in the middle of the night to drink some water and accidentally heard the argument between his uncle and aunt. His aunt was saying how they could barely provide a safe and comfortable life for Yoongi, and how she didn’t want her son’s happiness to be compromised because of ‘that other boy’.
“Jimin is also our son!”, his uncle angrily whispered.
“No, he is not. And even he understands that, which is why he is still a Park and not a Min”, his aunt retorted.
It was true that Jimin refused to change his surname even after the adoption, but it was not due to not wanting to be a part of the Mins. He just wanted to preserve a piece of his parents, even if in the form of their Surname.
He didn’t want to eavesdrop on their conversation but he was almost frozen in his place, unable to turn and go back to his and Yoongi’s room.
“Alpha, please try to understand. We cannot afford to spend so much on this boy. We need to think of Yoongi, we need to start saving money for his mating in future. You already know how difficult it will be due to his condition right?”, she pleaded.
“Min Yujin! You will stop your words right there! How can you demean our son like that? He is a beautiful, kind and capable omega who deserves a great Alpha. Why are you speaking as if we will need to sell him with money to someone?”, his aunt flinched due to his harsh tone.
“You don’t understand! You don’t know how people demand riches in return for mating omegas like us! I know how it feels, I don’t want my son to go through the same thing that I did”, she started crying.
“Did you have to though?”, his uncle asked coldly.
“What?”
“I asked if you had to pay for getting mated to me?”
“Alpha, not everyone is like you. You cannot wish for something like that”, his aunt replied exasperated.
His uncle’s voice sounded distant as if he was moving away towards their balcony that connects to the living room. He said one last sentence before he left, “If an alpha demands anything in return for mating MY son, then they don’t deserve him in the first place”.
Jimin realised that the whole argument was because of him. His aunt had always been cold towards him, even when his parents were alive. They were his uncle’s friends after all and were not necessarily close to his aunt. But since Jimin had to be adopted and live in their house, his aunt started being even colder to him.
Jimin never wanted to be the cause of pain for the only people who showed him kindness. And when he thought about being a barrier in the way of his Yoongi hyung’s happiness; he realised he could never live with that. So he decided to talk to his uncle about selling the house, the only thing he inherited from his parents to bear his living and studying expenses.
His uncle didn’t agree at first, feeling hurt that Jimin didn’t trust him with taking care of him. Yoongi also tried to talk him out of it, but he was persuasive and told his uncle that he wanted to study contemporary dance in the future anyway which was supposed to be very expensive. It was his mother’s dream and his passion, something he was absolutely not letting go of. His uncle reluctantly agreed and after selling the house, transferred all the money into a new account in Jimin’s name.
Jimin felt relieved, no longer feeling like a burden to his aunt and a hindrance to Yoongi’s future. He hoped that maybe his aunt was going to be less displeased at him now, and start showing a small fraction of affection to him that she showered Yoongi with every day.
But just two weeks later, Jimin presented as an omega, making his aunt start to despise him even more.
