Karen calls Foggy after Matt’s breakdown in s1ep12

Work Text:

Once Matt leaves, Karen sits down and considers her options. She should keep it to herself and respect Matt’s privacy, but she really needs things to go back to how they were, and so does Matt. So she picked up the phone and dials Foggy.

”Hey Karen, what’s up?” Foggy answers, steady and unbothered. She couldn’t help but feel a twinge of anger at him, for being fine when her and Matt where such messes.

”Can you come in? I need to tell you something.” Karen asked, voice quiet but level. She had long ago calmed her breathing, but the worry still traveled through her voice.

”Yeah, of course. Is everything okay?” Foggy asked, worried. She could hear him call a cab while waiting for her response.

”It’s really better to just tell you here, I’ll see you in a few.” She replied, hanging up right after.

She did work while waiting, it was late but she knew that Foggy was out anyway. After about fifteen minutes he walked through the door, that she had unlocked a few minutes prior.

”Karen, is everything alright?” He asked, hanging up his coat and walking over to her desk. She could tell that he was worried.

”It’s Matt,” She paused to try and read his face. It looked like he wanted to turn around and walk right back out that door but he stayed away, “Foggy, he needs us. He needs you.”

”He needs to leave me the fuck alone.” Foggy snaps back, going for his coat. That caused Karen to stand up abruptly, grabbing his attention.

”Foggy. He broke down in my arms today. Less than an hour ago.” She tried to keep her voice steady, but was aware that it sounded desperate.

Foggy turned, “What?”

”Matt came into the office earlier and couldn’t even get to his office before he started crying, Foggy, he feels alone. He said that he can’t take another step, that he can’t do this alone.” Karen quietly yelled out, walking over to Foggy.

”Matt… was crying?” The last time Foggy saw him cry was back in collage, when a group of thugs beat him so badly he could barely stand the next day. He assumed that was before this beating up bad guys shit.

”Yes Foggy. He needs you, please, at least try to talk to him. I’m not sure what happened between you, but I know that Matt has taken full blame. Just, let him know that you don’t hate him.” Karen sighs at the end, walking back to her desk, “You’re supposed to be his friend. His best friend, Foggy, and right now, he needs his best friend.”

They didn’t speak on it more that night, Karen left the office soon after. When Foggy finally leaves, he goes right to Matt’s house.
