Work Text:

By the time Ryan and Sophie arrived back in Gotham, they were tired and sore in places they didn’t even know could be sore. After they caught Tavaroff and his men, Sophie insisted on sticking around National City to make sure they were all locked away and secure. Unfortunately, Nathan decided that ending up in prison wasn’t enough to make him talk. So Huntress was still in the wind. Ryan was anxious to cross paths with the woman who helped kidnap Sophie, but she knew chasing after ghosts could wait. They needed to rest and regroup before making another move. So when Ryan began driving in the direction of The Holdup, Sophie didn’t even bother with the pretense of insisting she go back to her apartment, especially with everything that had happened since the explosion. They both intended to stay as close as possible to each other for the foreseeable future.

In the loft, Sophie sank back into the couch and rested her eyes while she waited for Ryan to finish locking up. She felt the couch shift and opened her eyes to see Ryan staring at her.

“What?” She watched as Ryan’s gaze shifted to her fidgeting hands. Sophie knew something was off. “Ryan, I can feel you worrying. Talk to me.” She placed her hand over Ryan’s to get her attention. “Babe, you can say whatever you need to say.”

Ryan released a deep breath and took Sophie’s hand. “I don’t want to lose you Sophie.” Sophie started to say something, but Ryan held up a hand to stop her. “When I found out that you had been taken, I was terrified. All I could think about was how I might never see you again, and how angry I was that you refused to listen to me.”

“Ryan, I don’t–”

“Hold on, let me finish. I know you don’t need me to save you and that you are capable of taking care of yourself. Even with you accepting the commissioner position, and still wanting to go out as BlackCat ,” Ryan drew out the name for emphasis, “I know you can handle yourself. In here.” Ryan tapped on her temple before taking Sophie’s hand and holding it over her heart. “But in here, I am scared that when you walk out a door, you might not make it back. I don’t want to lose you, Soph.”

Ryan took a breath to collect herself before continuing. “But death isn’t the only way to lose someone, and in trying to keep you safe, I only pushed you away more. I am always going to worry about your safety, but I trust you to come back to me the same way I need you to trust me.”

For the first time in a while, Sophie was speechless. Ryan had just said everything Sophie had wanted to hear since that night she decided to keep the bullwhip. Their usual defenses were gone. There was no ‘but’ or request to ‘sit this one out’ waiting around the corner. It was just her and Ryan being real. She couldn’t find the words to accurately express what she needed to say. So, she leaned forward and kissed Ryan, instead.

It was meant to be a soft kiss, but she found herself unable to stop. There was so much she wanted to say back to Ryan's apology, and she poured it all into that kiss. Once Sophie felt she'd communicated all she needed to, she became very aware of their current situation. They had survived everything that had been thrown their way, and they never complained, and they were finally alone. She had no plans on wasting any more time. Sophie shifted backwards and pulled Ryan with her until Ryan straddled her. She trailed heated kisses down from her mouth to her neck. Ryan let out a groan filled with want, and Sophie was prepared to fill every one of her desires. She moved her hands from Ryan's waist and skated them up her sides, raising her shirt with them.

Ryan wasn’t one who needed much goading. She leaned back just far enough to pull her top off, and immediately captured Sophie’s lips again. She was also very aware of how many instances of luck or divine intervention it took for them to end up here, on this sofa. They were safe, sound, and horny as hell.

Kelly had mentioned that fighting could help strengthen a relationship, as long as it was followed by understanding, compromise, and an eager reconciliation. Although, they still needed to get back to the compromise part, Ryan was definitely okay with the make-up sex coming first. She scooted back to give herself better access to Sophie’s neck and jeans. Fortunately, there wasn’t any unnecessary belt to get in her way. Plus, she had spent enough time getting in and out of the batsuit that a button and zipper was light work.

Ryan did her best to wriggle Sophie’s pants down enough to give her better access to her goal. To her credit, Sophie was trying to help, but they both quickly realized that this couch was not ideal for what they were trying to get into. Ryan met Sophie’s lips in a deep kiss before pulling back and standing up.

“Bed. Now.” Ryan couldn’t help but smile at the surprised look Sophie had. She grabbed Sophie’s hand and pulled her up and towards the bed on the other side of the room. Sophie followed without a word. She wouldn’t openly admit it, but she loved when Ryan took a more dominant role in their sex life. Especially now, with all the unreleased tension between them,  she couldn’t wait to see where this was gonna go.

Ryan guided Sophie to the foot of the bed, but stopped her from sitting. She leaned forward and kissed Sophie. It was soft, but too quick for Sophie’s liking. When she tried to chase Ryan’s lips, she was halted by a hand on her shoulder.

“Don’t move.” Ryan’s voice was low and breathy. To emphasize her instruction, Ryan placed her hand at the base of Sophie’s throat and gave it a gentle squeeze, and Sophie had to press her thighs together to quell the warm sensation building between them.

“You have too many clothes on,” Ryan continued. She slowly unbuttoned Sophie’s top and slid it from her shoulders. She then dropped down to her knees and picked up where they had left off on the couch. She hooked her fingers inside the waistband on Sophie’s pants and her underwear, and pulled them both down, leaving Sophie in only her bra. Ryan pressed a kiss to her thigh before stepping back and taking in the sight before her. It was heavenly. Ryan began removing the rest of her own clothes, while maintaining eye contact with Sophie. “Lay down on the bed.”

Sophie eagerly obliged and scooted higher on the bed, until she reached the top. She met Ryan’s eyes again and smiled. She was completely turned on, and decided it was her turn to add a little extra fuel to the fire. She rose up and rested on her elbows, and spread her legs. “Well, are you just gonna stand there?” Sophie’s arousal made her voice even raspier.

Ryan walked back over and climbed into the bed. She kissed the insides of Sophie’s knees and placed them over her shoulder. After taking a moment to get comfortable, she spread her open and dipped her tongue in.

A moan escaped Sophie as Ryan’s tongue explored her clit, circling the bud once, twice, before bringing it into her mouth. Not ready for her to orgasm yet, Ryan moved from the sensitive bud and lapped at the wetness that coated Sophie’s folds. She flattened her tongue, applying a bit of pressure as she feasted, savoring the taste. Sensing how close Sophie was to her first orgasm, Ryan slipped in two fingers and began to press into her over and over, curling her fingers when she reached as deep as possible.

“Fuuuck, Ry. It feels so good.” Sophie’s head went back as she moaned. The vibrations of Ryan’s low chuckle rolled through her body. She could feel herself getting close as the pressure began building in her chest and worked its way down her legs until her toes curled and she was gripping at sheets, pillows, and whatever else she could find.

She was vaguely aware of a phone ringing, but her only focus was Ryan’s mouth and hands working on the most sensitive part of her body. She chanced a look down at the woman— the goddess that was bringing her as close to heaven as she’s ever been, and was met with Ryan’s darkened stare as she once again swirled her tongue around her clit. Sophie’s entire mind, body, and soul seemed to crest. She was reduced to incoherent mumbling as her entire body turned boneless and she swore she saw stars.

Eventually, Sophie’s nerves began to settle and her awareness crept back. She kept her eyes closed, but she could feel Ryan gently stroking her hair as she placed feathery kisses on her face. The last thing she heard before drifting to sleep was Ryan whispering her name into the space where her neck met her shoulder.

– – – – –

Once Sophie had woken up, and had her fill of Ryan, they decided to relax with a bath. Ryan rested her head against Sophie’s chest and allowed the lavender bubble bath to calm her further. Sophie had Ryan fully enveloped in her arms, and for the first time in a long time, neither of them was concerned about what was waiting outside of this moment. All Ryan needed was there, and she planned to cherish it every chance she got. However, they had let too many conversations go unfinished, and Ryan was determined to break that habit.

She grabbed Sophie’s hand and pressed it to her lips. “I think we should get an app.”

“What?” Sophie tilted her head, confused by Ryan’s sudden statement.

“You know. One of those panic button apps like Cisco made for Team Flash. That way we have a way to alert the whole team when we’re separated.”

“We don’t need an app, Ry. I can just stay on comms–”

Ryan shook her head. “Nah, I don’t want you staying on comms to soothe my ego. I meant it when I said that I believe in you. So, if being out in the field is what makes you happy, then that’s where you should be. It's where you deserve to be.”

Sophie smiled. She knew Ryan was trying really hard to be supportive. So, she went along with it. “Ok. So me, you, and Luke are out on patrol or hunting down the newest baddie of the week, and what? Mary’s on comms?”

“Mary has to be at the clinic. Especially with the “zombie” cure almost done. She’ll probably be working to coordinate mass vaccinations. But we can find someone to run comms.”

“Ok fine. Let’s say we get this app. I doubt I’ll be able to pull out my phone mid-fight to push a button.”

“Luke can build it into your new suit.”

“What’s wrong with the one I have now?”

“Nothing, it's great. I mean really great.” Ryan felt her heartbeat pick up at just the thought of the black leather outfit, and how it fit Sophie like a second skin. “I just think it could use a few upgrades, like a panic button, and maybe something to keep track of your vitals.”

“The point of the suit is to be sleek. Like a cat.”

“The point is to be protected. A cat has nine lives, you don’t.”

Sophie could feel this conversation becoming another argument, but she knew Ryan was right. Plus, if anyone could add tech to a suit without altering the design, it would be Luke. “Fine, I’ll let Luke update the suit.”

“And your blazer.”

“My blazer?”

“For when you're out as the commissioner or just in general. That way you’ll always have a way to alert us.”

Sophie angled her head to the side to get a better look at Ryan’s face. “But you said blazer. As in singular . You know I have more than just one blazer, right?”

“Do you, though?” Ryan laughed and jerked away as Sophie attempted to splash her. “It's ok, babe. You just got a new job. Your first check hasn’t even come in yet.”

Sophie could not believe that Ryan was really using this sincere moment to roast her about being unemployed. All she could do was shake her head and laugh. “You better be glad that I love you.” Sophie leaned back before continuing. “Plus you’re the CEO girlfriend. You should be buying me some new blazers.”

“You love me?”

Sophie was about to question why Ryan was changing the subject from purchasing her a new wardrobe when Ryan’s question dawned on her. She had just told Ryan she loved her for the first time. Sure, Sophie had known for a while that she cared deeply for Ryan and she was almost certain that those feelings were mutual, but in all the longing looks, lingering touches, and statements about what they loved about each other, their love for each other was only ever implied, never explicitly said.

But, one little sentence wasn’t a big deal. It could be argued that they communicated their love often. Each time they kissed or checked in on each other, it was out of love. Even before they were officially a thing, it was clear that they cared about each other deeply. So, yeah, she loved Ryan, and vice versa, right?

“Yes,” Sophie finally answered. She was grateful that Ryan couldn’t see her face. She could practically feel the self-consciousness radiating from her body. She did her best trying to not imagine Ryan’s face, and that the lingering silence was her hesitating to say it back. The thoughts still crept into Sophie’s mind, though. What if she said it too soon? What if Ryan was still upset about what happened with the kidnapping? Or if she wasn’t over Angelique yet? What if –

“I love you too.” Ryan’s response was just above a whisper, but Sophie swore that’s what she heard. As if Ryan knew what she was thinking, she repeated herself, louder this time. “I love you Sophie Moore.”

Ryan attempted to shift to a position where she could somewhat face Sophie. It was awkward, but neither of them cared. She took Sophie’s hands in hers and placed them over her chest. “I love you in more ways than I can put into words. You are who I look for in my happiest moments, and who I trust to hold me through my worst ones. I am so grateful to have you as a partner in and out of the field.”

Sophie could feel the tears building up behind her eyes. “Are you gonna start singing now?” Sophie attempted to lighten the moment, remembering Iris telling them about Barry’s declaration of love before he sang to her.

“I think I’ll save that for the proposal.”

“You’re already planning to propose?”

“Oh, I plan to be with you for a very long time, Mrs. Wilder.”

“Sophie Wilder…” Sophie considered the name for a moment. “I guess it’s ok. Although I prefer Ryan Moore.”

“That’s not a problem.” Sophie could hear the smug grin in Ryan’s voice. “I’ll have you screaming ‘Ryan more’ soon enough.”

“You are too much.” Sophie pulled Ryan in for a kiss. The twinge in her neck reminded her of their less than comfortable positioning. “Well, now that I am feeling nice and clean, how about we get out of here and get dirty again?”

Ryan smiled wide. “You read my mind.” They quickly got out of the tub and dried off. Their bodies had barely touched the bed before Ryan’s hands found their way to Sophie’s breast, and her mouth followed close behind. Soon, they were a tangle of limbs, and the only words that could be made out were each other’s names and I love you .
