Movie Night

Summary:

You go over to Robin's house to watch some movies, and also maybe do a little kissing.

Work Text:

“Hey, don’t be out too late, mom and dad will kill me if you break curfew again.” Steve sounded very authoritative, not at first, but it had gotten a lot more frequent since he’d been labeled “party babysitter”. You rolled your eyes as you grabbed your keys from the dish in the front hall.

“That sounds, entirely, like a-you-problem,” you chuckled, opening the door.

“I mean it, (Y/N), 9:00 sharp!”

“Look, I’m just going to hang out with Robin, tell them that. Trust me, they’ll be fine with that.” Steve let out a huff and pointed at you, one hand on his hip.

“9:00,” he said sternly, and you rolled your eyes again, running out the door.

“I’ll be back later,” you called as you left.

“I mean it, (Y/N),” Steve called after you as you ran to your car. You laughed as you got to your car and started it.

You were always excited when Robin asked just you to hang out instead of you and Steve. Hanging out with both of them was fine and fun or whatever, but it always felt like hanging out with your brother and his friend, but with just Robin, it always felt too good.

You pulled into Robin’s driveway and parked, taking a deep breath before getting out of the car. It was crazy, how nervous you got when it was just you and Robin. It was thrilling and exciting and always left you feeling a little light headed. When she laughed or smiled because you said something funny, it felt like a storm of butterflies exploded in your stomach, and when she would casually touch your arm you could swear you felt electricity.

You let out a quick breath and headed to the front door. You had just barely raised your hand to knock before Robin had ripped the door open, looking manic and all too excited.

“Oh my god you’re finally here! You are not going to believe this.” She grabbed your arm and dragged you into the house, closing the door behind you as she spun you into the living room.

“What was the emergency,” you asked, looking at her and blushing as she grabbed your shoulders, invading your personal space like it didn’t even exist and you could feel your heart leap out of your chest.

“Look what I got, from work,” she said, grabbing a vhs tape off of the coffee table, showing it to you. “Back to the Future. I watched part of it last summer and I am telling you, it’s good.” You laughed and shook your head.

“Get it ready, I’ll go make some popcorn.” Robin jumped up and down with excitement and ran to the vcr, getting the tape ready as you headed into the kitchen.

You rummaged through the cupboards for the popcorn. Once you had found what you were looking for, you popped a couple of bags, smiling as you thought about how excited Robin was.

It was so cute the way she jumped around when she was excited, the way her eyes sparkled m, the feeling of her hands on your shoulders.

You were in the middle of a thought about Robin when she cleared her throat behind you. You jumped and spun around to face her, and she smiled.

“Ooo, what were you thinking about,” she asked, pointing at your cheeks. You could feel the heat rising in them and shook your head.

“No one,” you said a little too quickly before realizing she asked ‘what’ and now ‘who’. You blushed even deeper and pulled the popcorn out of the microwave.

“Popcorn’s ready,” you said, avoiding the coming question and heading back to the living room with the popcorn. You plopped down on the couch and pressed play, Robin joined you on the couch, sitting close enough that your knees were touching and you tried your best to ignore the way her knee felt pressed against yours.

The movie was entertaining, to say the least. Robin did have the best taste in movies. By the time the credits rolled, Robin was leaned into your side, licking popcorn butter off her fingers.

“That was really good,” she said, looking up at you. It was like she had just realized that she was cuddling you, and you felt her stiffen. She sat up and pulled away from you a little to fast. You tried not to look disappointed, but the confusion on your face must have been obvious.

“Sorry,” Robin said, crumpling up the popcorn bags. “And it looks like we’re out of popcorn.” She hurried into the kitchen and you couldn’t help but feel the pain of rejection sink into your chest. You got up and pressed the rewind button on the vcr. You felt so stupid for being disappointed.

“Of course she would react that way,” you mumbled to yourself. “Don’t be stupid (Y/N), of course she doesn’t like girls.” You ran a hand through your hair and shook your head, looking at the next movie in the pile. It had been your request, and you knew Robin would love it. You grabbed The Terminator and put it in as soon as Back to the Future was done rewinding.

“I made more popcorn,” Robin said, sitting on the other end of the couch from where you were. You smiled and stood up from in front of the tv and sat back down in your spot.

“What’s you put in,” she asked, like she hadn’t known why was next in the pile.

“The Terminator,” you said, grabbing one of the bags of popcorn she had set on the cushion between you.

“Oh, I saw that when it first came out, it was really good.” She smiled and looked at you, flashing her smile at you. “Sarah Connor is so hot,” she said, and you smiled at her.

“Yeah, she is stunning,” you agreed. You thought you caught something change in her smile, but it was gone too fast for you to see what it was.

You got sucked into the movie, practically drooling over Sarah Hamilton kicking total robot ass. By the time the movie was over, you and Robin were both sitting on the middle cushion of the couch, shoulders pressed together,

“I’m glad I finally found someone with good taste in movies,” she said as the credits began to roll.

“Thanks, I’m glad I have someone who is into the same movies I like,” you said back. Her face was close enough to yours that you could feel her bangs brush against your face.

You glanced down at her lips, blushing as she smiled. She was stunning, with her wide open smile, her sparkling eyes, and like countless times before, you found yourself longing to know what her lips would feel like against yours.

“Robin,” you breathed, your eyes still locked on her lips.

“Yeah,” Robin said, the tone of her voice matching yours. You were trying to find something, anything, to say. You licked your lips as your brain tried to reorder itself, and before you could open your mouth to say anything, you leaned in and kissed Robin.

Lost in the blissful wonderful moment, you dreamed it would go on forever as her lips met yours. But like all dreams, it came to an end. Robin stiffened and pulled away from you, shock and what you could only guess was disgust washed over her. You began to back pedal, shaking your head slightly.

“I am so sorry,” you blurted, staring at her with the horror of what you had just done clear on your face. You wanted so badly to take it back, to have waited for your brain to catch up with your heart so you could avoid the look she was giving you now. “I should go,” you said, standing up and taking a step towards the door.

“(Y/N), wait,” Robin called, knocked out of her surprise by your movement. You didn’t stop as she called out for you. You couldn’t bear her knowing you liked her and her not liking you back. You were stupid and fo-

Before you could finish that thought, Robin had caught your arm and pulled you back to her, cupping your face in her hands before she pulled your lips back to hers.

You melted into that kiss, the storm of butterflies in your stomach erupting, making your tingle all over, but especially where your hands held onto your face. You wrapped your arms around her waist and pulled her in closer, feeling her hands slide back from her cheeks into your hair.

You moaned a little as pulled away from you, pressing her forehead to yours. You didn’t move your arms as she broke the kiss.

“I can’t tell you how long I’ve wanted to do that,” she giggled, biting her lip. “I can’t believe I finally got to kiss (Y/N) Harrington!” She giggled again, shaking her head. She froze just a moment later and took a half step back from you, forcing your arms to loosen around her.

“Oh my god, I just kissed Steve Harrington’s little sister,” she looked disturbed by that fact, and you had to be honest, you could see why. She just kissed her best friend’s sister, and you kissed her back. You frowned as her realization just dawned on you.

“Oh shit, Steve,” you said, shaking your head. You stepped back from her, regretting that you had to put space between the two of you when it felt so good to be close.

“He’s gonna loose his shit,” Robin gasped, grabbing a handful of her own hair. Your eyes snapped back to her face and you shook your head.

“You can’t tell Steve,” you said, shaking your hair more. “Steve can’t know. I haven’t told him about-“ you cut yourself off, scared of how he’d react. Robin gave you a confused look and grabbed your hands.

“Steve knows about me,” she said, squeezing your hands. “It’ll be fine. He might think it’s a little bit weird because he’s my best friend and I’m his, and I just made out with his little sister, and if I’m being perfectly honest I really want to do it again, but again, your my best friends little sister and-“ you cut off her rambling with another kiss, smiling slightly when it worked, her lips stopped moving as she let herself be absorbed by the kiss.

“You’re right. It’s gonna be fine,” you said. Pulling away from her. “But, I think I have to tell him, at least for me, anyway.” Robin nodded, her cheeks slightly squished between your hands, making her look just so adorable.

“Okay,” Robin said, wrapping her arms around your waist. She felt so amazing in your arms, and you never wanted to let her go. You leaned in to kiss her again when the phone started ringing.

You both jumped, and Robin gave you a sheepish smile before she moved to answer the phone.

“Hello, Buckley residence,” she said, sounding rather bored. “Oh hey Steve,” she said, shooting you a nervous glance. “Yeah she’s here, why?” She sounded defensive, but it’s not like you didn’t know why. “Oh, uh, sure,” he paused and held the phone out to you, “he wants to talk to you.” You took the phone and held it up to your ear.

“Where the hell are you, (Y/N),” he asked, and you couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Well, considering you called Robin’s and are now on the phone with me, I would say it’s pretty safe to say that I’m still at Robin’s, why?”

“Do you have any idea what time it is?” You looked over at the clock and realized it was 15 minutes to 9:00.

“Oh shit, I’ll be right home.” You said, handing the phone back to Robin. She hung it up and you looked at her with a smile. She smiled back and you could feel the blush creeping up in your cheeks.

“I’ll call you tomorrow, okay,” you said, taking her hand.

“Okay,” she said with a nod, leaning in for one more kiss. You kissed her, reveling in how many times you wish for just this and now it was happening.

“Bye,” you mumbled against her lip just as you slipped out of the door. You got into your car and risked a look back at the door. Robin was still waiting there, a goofy smile on her face. You smiled back at her as you backed out of her driveway.

You thought about her until you got home. The way her lips felt against yours, the way they tasted, like salt and butter from the popcorn. You drove home in a daze, barely managing to make it home before curfew was up. The door clicked shut behind you just as the clock struck nine, and Steve was waiting for you with his arms crossed, his mouth pressed into a thin line of disapproval.

“I was home before 9,” you argued, and Steve shook his head.

“How was Robin’s,” he asked, raising an eyebrow at you, his expression still as serious as when you walked in. You looked him up and down as you dropped your keys in the bowl by the door.

“It was good,” you said cautiously. It was way better than good, but you weren’t going to tell Steve about it.

“Was it,” he asked, his eyes going wide, making the small smile on his face look rather manic. “Good, because you know what? You’re grounded.”

“For what,” you asked, laughing and you crossed your arms over your chest. “I wasn’t late, I was exactly where I said I was going to be. And, you don’t have that authority.” He stared at you as he realized you were right. You didn’t do anything wrong. He glared at you, pointing his finger at you.

“Watch it,” he said before breaking into a smile. “So, what movies did you guys watch?”
