Work Header

Of Frights, Fights, and Halloween Kisses

Summary:

Jungkook and Taehyung are navigating their relationship, it's only been a few months since they started dating, and as always, things are...interesting. Jungkook didn't expect Halloween to bring this much excitement, but as he's discovered with Taehyung, nothing is ever boring.

Also - another visit to the principal's office was not something either of them had on their bucket lists, thank you very much.

Work Text:

Jungkook grunted, feeling a weight smack into his middle, startling him awake "Jinyoung…." He growled, but Jinyoung just giggled excitedly, continuing to smack his stomach in an effort to make him move quicker. "Hurry up, Daddy! We're going to be late!" Jinyoung whined, continuing to push against his father until he groaned.

"Alright, alright," Jungkook sat up, staring at his son, who was sitting on his lap "you're dressed already?" He frowned in confusion, surprised to see Jinyoung in a bunny outfit, dressed as a cop. He raised an eyebrow at Jinyoung, who got up and twirled on the bed before losing his balance and toppling over, giggling breathlessly.

"Yes! Isn't my costume pretty, daddy?" Jinyoung bopped his head, his bunny ears flopping up and down.

"Judy?" Jungkook asked, confused, not remembering Jinyoung liking the movie enough to want to dress up as a character.

"Uh-huh! Uncle Jin got it for me!" Jinyoung said, puffing up his chest, proud. "He said I could be anyone I wanted to be! I picked this myself!"

"You look cute!" Jungkook smiled widely, picking up his son and hugging him tightly, "but I thought you wanted to go as an angel?" Jinyoung covered his mouth, giggling suspiciously. "Okay, brat, what are you hiding?" Jungkook asked skeptically.

"Nothing, daddy, now let's go! We're going to be late!"

Jungkook sighed and got out of bed, still exhausted from the night before. He knew he needed to slow down, but he was so behind on some of his cases after the past few months that he was finding it difficult to catch up. Still, he wouldn't change what happened for anything (except the violence, he hated seeing Taehyung hurt). He smiled softly, remembering Minjun's birthday and the night he and Taehyung spent together. He knew that was only the beginning, but the napkin he had in his wallet was slowly filling up with days etched, and he couldn't be happier.

"Daddy! We're going to be late!" Jinyoung whined, pulling at him and distracting Jungkook from his thoughts. He grabbed Jungkook's wrist, pulling at him and trying to tug him out of bed and drag him through the door, grumbling with effort. Jungkook pulled him off of him, pinching his cheeks.

"Relax, buttercup, I need to change. We'll be out soon, I promise."

"If you make me late to see Minjunie, I'm going to be very sad, daddy," Jinyoung pouted.

"Don't worry. We'll be there on time," Jungkook reassured him, rushing to get ready, sniffing his shirt to make sure it was clean. He mentally added laundry to his tasks and groaned, not knowing when he'd have time. He thought about asking Taehyung to watch Jinyoung but remembered he promised him a date night since Hoseok volunteered to take the kids out trick-or-treating. He smiled fondly, excited about seeing Taehyung again. He pulled on his shoes and grabbed his briefcase, calling for Jinyoung to meet him at the door.

"Look, daddy! It's Minjun!" Jinyoung cried out before launching forward, leaving Jungkook behind.

"Jinyoung! Slow down!" Jungkook barked, chasing after his son, halting suddenly at the sight of Jinyoung and Minjun hugging. "Ah, I see why you wanted to be Judy." Jungkook teased, staring in amusement at Minjun, who had bright orange fox ears, wearing a green shirt two sizes too large for him and a skewed tie. "Charmed to meet you, Nick," Jungkook said, bowing at a snickering Minjun. "Where's your dad?" He asked, fixing his tie for him.

"Uncle Jiminie drove me over. Tae-daddy's working," Minjun said before grabbing Jinyoung's hand and yelling out, "Bye, Uncle Jungkook!" And pulling Jinyoung into the school.

"Bye!" Jungkook snorted, turning back to his car to drive to work.

The meeting room was almost too hot, making Jungkook work to not fidget in his seat. He knew his boss liked it that way because it made people uncomfortable enough to want to wrap meetings up quickly, but it was clearly backfiring. He turned to his boss, eyes pleading for him to adjust the temperature before he snapped and punched someone, but his boss was ignoring him, choosing to stare straight at their client, who was rambling on and on. Jungkook was trying very hard to refrain from rolling his eyes, he really was, but the man was blathering on, and Jungkook was tired of hearing his voice. It didn't help that his phone would not stop vibrating in his pocket, constantly distracting him. His boss dabbed a napkin across his forehead, and looked pointedly at Jungkook.

"Mr. Park, I don't think you understand-" Jungkook started to say before he was rudely interrupted by the man sitting across from him. He was old and frail-looking, but his voice was booming, and he had a sense of authority that Jungkook could maybe respect if he wasn't spewing nonsense.

"No! I've told you, I don't want to settle with that asshole!" Jungkook opened his mouth to speak, "I'm not paying you to settle!" The man roared.

"Mr. Park, you're paying me to get you the best deal possible. I'm telling you that you are fighting a losing battle. We've managed to bluff our way into a favorable settlement, but the fact remains that we do not have enough evidence to win at trial, no matter how convincing I can be," Jungkook tried to reason, "you wanted the best. I am the best, and I'm telling you, this is the best you'll get, and you should be grateful you got it at all". The man sputtered in outrage, turning to Jungkook's boss.

"You're going to let him speak to me like this?"

"Lawyer Jeon is the best attorney at our firm Mr. Park. He knows what he's doing. We would not have brought this offer to you if we thought it was not worth taking." Before their client could answer, a loud bang echoed in the meeting room as Minho rushed in.

"I'm so sorry to interrupt, Mr. Jeon. It's your son's school. They've been trying to reach you. They say it's urgent." Jungkook paled and stood up in a rush, bowing to excuse himself as he threw himself out of the room.

"What happened?" He urged, needing an answer, heart racing as his hands shook, but Minho shrugged, saying they wouldn't tell him because he wasn't family. Jungkook nodded, clearly stressed, "hold my messages and reschedule any non-urgent meetings, I’ll be back as soon as I can,” Jungkook requested, grabbing his coat and rushing to the school.

Jungkook tried to drive calmly, but all he could think about was Jinyoung. He finally looked at his phone after Minho interrupted their meeting, realizing that he had missed seven calls from the school. He panted, trying to get his breathing under control, fighting back the urge to panic and throw up. He was driving on autopilot until finally, he parked at the school, rushing to the principal's office.

"Ms. Jung! I got a call about Jinyoung!" He exclaimed in a panic.

"Yes, dear, sit down. We're still waiting for one more person," she said, trying to be reassuring, but Jungkook was again having trouble breathing, flashing back to the first time he was called to the principal's office and wondering what could have happened. Just as he was beginning to work himself into another panic attack, he heard a familiar voice and turned around in surprise, seeing a flustered Taehyung, who was asking about Minjun. Taehyung seemed to finally spot him, eyes widening in surprise. "Jungkook? What the hell happened?" He asked, clearly anxious.

"I-I don't know. They didn't tell me," Jungkook said, and Taehyung moved to the chair next to him, sinking down but looking terrified. He kept stealing glances at Jungkook as if worried that Jungkook would freak out again. Jungkook grabbed Taehyung's hand, intertwining their fingers together, before bringing Taehyung's hand to his lips and kissing him softly.

"Guk-ah?" Taehyung whispered.

"It'll be okay. No matter what, we'll figure it out. Okay?" Jungkook tried to reassure, and Taehyung found himself nodding automatically. "Though this is familiar," he teased, making Taehyung snort and nod. "Yeah, it'd be funny if we got this far, only for you to sue me,” Taehyung stuck his tongue out at Jungkook, who rolled his eyes and said, "I'm not that much of a dick" Taehyung covered his mouth, trying to stifle his giggles.

"Mr. Jeon, Mr. Kim, thank you for coming in," the principal interrupted. Both Jungkook and Taehyung shot up, bowing.

"Is everyone okay?" Taehyung asked.

"Yes, follow me," the principal asked, and Taehyung and Jungkook gasped at the sight of Minjun and Jinyoung. Jinyoung was shuffling his feet, a black eye clearly beginning to form, while Minjun looked nervous, bleeding from a split lip. Jungkook and Taehyung gasped in horror, turning to the principal, who chortled. "Well, at least they weren't fighting each other this time," he joked.

"…what?" Jungkook asked, clearly still in shock.

"From what we understand, a boy was bullying Jinyoung because of his costume, and Minjun hit him. Jinyoung then joined the fight when the boy hit Minjun," the principal explained.

Jungkook didn't know know if he should feel relieved or horrified but bent over and grabbed both Minjun and Jinyoung, hugging them tightly. He heard rustling and saw Taehyung bend down next to him, holding the boys and hugging them once Jungkook let go.

"We obviously don't condone violence," the principal started, but Jungkook interrupted before he could continue. "I don't see the other boy here, don't tell me you're going to punish only our sons for defending themselves?" Jungkook snapped.

"His parents picked him up. He's been suspended. As I was saying," he forced out before Jungkook could steamroll him, "we don't condone violence, but since it's clear the other boy started the fight, we won't be expelling them. Though I will say that this is the second time I've brought this up to you" he said pointedly, "their hearts were in the right place, but we'd appreciate it if you also explained to them how violence is not the answer."

"Biscuit, what happened?" Taehyung asked Minjun.

"It's not our fault Tae-daddy!" Minjun started to sob, "Taekwon was making fun of Jinyoungie! He said that only girls dress like Judy and that Jinyoungie was stupid for wearing that costume! Why can't he be Judy?" He hiccuped. "It's not fair! I think Jinyoungie looks amazing! I got really mad that he was trying to make Jinyoungie cry, so I hit him…." He admitted looking down, breaking Taehyung's heart. Jinyoung sniffled next to him, tugging at his vest self-consciously. "Jinyoungie, you do look amazing!" Taehyung insisted, grabbing his hand and straightening his vest, "Taekwon was wrong. Anyone can wear anything they want, as long as they're happy." Jungkook reached over and wiped the tears off of Jinyoung's face. "I told you this morning you looked very cute, right? Would I lie to you?"

"No, daddy," Jinyoung mumbled.

"Thank you, Minjun, for protecting Jinyoung," Jungkook said, uncharacteristically seriously. Minjun nodded, hugging Jinyoung, who sniffled and rubbed his eyes.

"Can we take them home?" Taehyung asked, and the principal nodded.

"Come on, boys, let's go home. We'll talk about this some more there," Jungkook said. "I'll drive us to your place?" Jungkook asked Taehyung, who nodded, picking up Minjun and wiping his lip, feeling his anger rising when seeing the blood coating the tissue.

The ride home was silent, with only the sound of sniffles from the back seat. Both Jungkook and Taehyung look tense, clearly worried about their boys. Jungkook cleared his throat and looked at Taehyung, "ice cream?" He whispered, and Taehyung smiled and nodded, turning to the boys. "Boys, do you want to go for ice cream?" Taehyung asked, instantly cheering them up. They both nodded, though it was more muted than usual. Jungkook turned at the exit, parking near their favorite ice cream shop. The boys got out, waiting for Taehyung and Jungkook to join them. Taehyung held their hands and led them to a table while Jungkook ordered for them. Jungkook joined them shortly, passing the ice cream down.

"So, shall we talk?" He asked, and the boys nodded. "We're both very proud of you for defending each other," Jungkook started, looking at Taehyung, who nodded and motioned for him to continue, "but next time, tell a grown-up like a teacher if someone is saying mean things to you, okay? We hate to see you both hurt, and fighting isn't the answer." The boys nodded solemnly.

“Taekwon is a jerk” Jinyoung glowered. Taehyung smiled sadly at him, saying, "I know that what he said was mean Jinyoungie, and he was very wrong. You look so, so cute! But there are mean people in the world who will judge you for how you look or what you wear or do, and I know it sucks, but that's why we have each other. Next time, like your father said, tell one of us or a teacher. I promise we'll always have your back. No matter what, okay?" Jinyoung nodded, "and Minjun, you'll remember too, right? If someone says something mean to Jinyoung or anyone else, you won't hit them, right? You'll let us know."

"Fine…" he grumbled, "but Taekwon is still a poop-face."

"Minjun," Taehyung scolded, "mind your language."

"But he's so stupid! Jinyoungie looked so much better than his stupid pirate costume. Who wants to be a pirate anyway? That's boring!"

"Regardless, biscuit, what did we say about making fun of other people for what they wear?"

"Ugh. Fine. Maybe he's blind" Minjun shrugged, making Jungkook snort.

"Are you boys excited for tonight?" Jungkook changed the subject, wanting to cheer them up.

"YESSS!" They shrieked, clapping excitedly. "Uncle Hobi knows all the best spots!" Minjun said. Jinyoung nodded, adding, "and he said that because he's a policeman, we'll get lots of candy!"

"That sounds like an abuse of power," Taehyung teased.

"CANDY!" The boys shouted simultaneously.

"You heard them Tae-Tae. Candy!" Jungkook said, poking Taehyung's ribs.

The ride back to Taehyung's was much more comfortable, with the boys having cheered up.

"Go play. We'll call you when it's time to get ready," Taehyung said, watching the boys run upstairs before he could continue his sentence.

"They're going to give me a heart attack before I'm forty," Jungkook cried, plopping on a couch, exhausted.

"Tell me about it," Taehyung said, moving behind the couch to massage Jungkook's shoulders, making him groan in appreciation. "I'm looking forward to tonight," Taehyung admitted. Jungkook smiled softly.

"Yeah? Even if we're watching a scary movie?" He teased.

"You'll protect me, Taehyung said, coming back around the couch and straddling Jungkook, who placed his hands on Taehyung's hips, looking into his eyes. Taehyung leaned in, giving Jungkook a soft kiss, but Jungkook wrapped his arms around Taehyung's waist, pulling him closer and deepening the kiss, making him moan.

"Shhh," He scolded, "the boys will hear.”

"You shouldn't have started that then," Taehyung panted, flicking Jungkook on his nose and making him scrunch up his face. "We'll have plenty of time later," Jungkook said, clearly reluctant to let Taehyung go.

"Oh yeah, what do you plan to do then, Jungkookie?" Taehyung asked, licking a stripe up Jungkook's cheek.

"I plan to hear you scream," he whispered against Taehyung's ear, making him shudder, "both during the movie and after," he winked.

Taehyung smacked his arm, getting off of him and going to the kitchen to prepare lunch. Jungkook joined him, enjoying the domesticity. "What?" Taehyung asked.

"Nothing, I just like watching you do things," Jungkook said, "but alas, I have to go to work." He sighed.

"Go save clients Jungkook." Taehyung kissed his cheek, "and come back hungry."

"Hmm. You're making something?" Jungkook asked.

"We both learned our lesson the last time I tried to make something," Taehyung laughed, "we'll be ordering in. Pizza... because pizza isn't messy, and if you want me to watch a scary movie, we're not eating anything messy". Jungkook snorted and got up, "tell Jinyoungie I'll be back soon," he called out, waving goodbye, before heading out.

"Boys! Come down for lunch!" Taehyung called out once dinner was ready.

Jungkook opened the door quietly, sneaking in, wanting to surprise everyone. He saw the boys posing for Taehyung, who had his phone out and was taking pictures. "Okay, twirl, yes, that's it," he heard Taehyung say before pressing a finger to his lips while looking at the kids, urging them to be quiet. Their eyes widened slightly, and they smirked conspiratorially, but Taehyung didn't notice anything, too busy looking at his phone. Jungkook snuck forward, tiptoeing to keep quiet, before lunging and grabbing Taehyung by his waist, hoisting him up and putting him in a bridal carry. Taehyung shrieked in horror, limbs flailing as his center of gravity shifted, and he cried out, making Jungkook laugh hysterically.

"JEON JUNGKOOK!" Taehyung screamed, making the boys double over in laughter, "PUT ME DOWN! YOU ALMOST GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK!" Jungkook could hardly breathe, he was laughing so hard, but he did set Taehyung down.

"I did promise to make you scream, didn't I?" Jungkook joked.

"ASS-" Taehyung started to say, before catching himself, "I-I mean RUDE! THAT WAS RUDE! I'm going to punish you!" Jungkook continued to snort, sauntering over to the boys, looking very pleased with himself.

"I know I said this earlier, but you both look so cute! I can't wait to see Tae-Tae's pictures!"

"No pictures for you! Meanie!" Taehyung protested, making the boys laugh hysterically. Just then, the doorbell rang.

"HOBI!" Taehyung called out excitedly, letting Hoseok in, admiring his fireman costume.

"Aren't like cops and firemen mortal enemies?" Jungkook asked, seeing his costume.

"Only in movies Jungkookie!" Hoseok said, hugging him, then clapping and pointing excitedly upon seeing the boys. "Waah! You guys look amazing!! I love the costumes!" Hoseok said, making the boys preen. "See Jinyoungie! Even Uncle Hobi says you look great! Taekwon is dumb!"

"Say what now?" Hoseok asked, confused.

"The boys got into a fight at school because a bully said mean things to Jinyoung about his costume," Jungkook explained.

"Ah, that explains the eye and the lip then. I wasn't sure if I should ask," Hoseok commented.

"Yeah, but the boys have promised no more fighting, and we all agree that they look amazing," Taehyung said.

"They do indeed!" Hoseok agreed.

"Here are their bags Hyung," Jungkook said, handing the bags over to Hoseok. "You'll be taking them to Jin-hyung's once you're done, right?" Hoseok nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Namjoonie said that he'll bring them over tomorrow on his way to work, and by him, I mean Jin-hyung because we all know that Namjoonie should not drive," they all laughed at that, nodding.

"Thank you again for offering to do this, Hobi! We really appreciate it!"

"Nonsense! They're a lot of fun, and between you and me, everyone knows that cute costumes get the best candy! So I expect to make a killing!"

Taehyung and Jungkook took turns hugging their sons, "you'll be on your best behavior for Uncle Hobi, right?" Jungkook said, and they both nodded. "We love you! Stay safe, and if you need anything, or if you're scared, call us, and we'll come get you." Taehyung said, kissing both of them.

"We will Tae-daddy!" Minjun said, "Bye Uncle Jungkook!" "Bye Uncle Tae, Daddy! See you tomorrow!" The boys called out on their way out.

"So, it's just us, movie time?" Jungkook asked. He'd been waiting to watch the movie for weeks, holding out because he wanted to watch it with Taehyung. Taehyung nodded, asking Jungkook to set it up while he got the popcorn and ordered the pizza. Once he came back, he snuggled against Jungkook, who squeezed him and started playing the movie.

As the movie played, Jungkook couldn't help but notice how Taehyung wasn't really reacting to the jump scares. He frowned, confused, but continued to watch his reaction.

"What?" Taehyung asked, feeling the other's eyes on him.

"Nothing, you're just…unusually brave tonight," Jungkook pointed out, and Taehyung smiled.

"Right? This is nothing! I'm so strong!" Flexing his biceps and making Jungkook furrow his eyebrows in confusion, but he continued to watch the movie. They were interrupted by the sound of the doorbell, and Taehyung poked Jungkook, asking him to bring the pizza in, telling him his wallet was on the table by the door. Jungkook nodded and got up, stretching while Taehyung ogled him.

He walked over to the table, grabbed the wallet, and opened it, pulling out a stack of bills and a receipt. "OH MY GOD! TAEHYUNG! YOU CHEATER!" He yelled from where he was standing by the door, frozen in shock, and Taehyung cursed, running to Jungkook, barreling into him and snatching his wallet from Jungkook's hand. He hurriedly opened the door, pushing a bunch of bills into the delivery man's hands, grabbing the box, then slamming the door with a muffled sorry, leaving a flustered man behind.

"TAE!!" Jungkook wailed, looking utterly betrayed, "HOW COULD YOU?!"

"You know I can't watch scary movies Jungkookie," Taehyung said cutely, worming his way between Jungkook's still outstretched arms, trying to maneuver while still carrying the pizza box.

"You watched this movie without me?" Jungkook groused. Pointing to the receipt like he was holding a key piece of evidence. "You rented this last week? Is that why you're not scared?"

Taehyung blushed and nodded, "I wanted to show you that I wouldn't be scared."

"But what about my hugs? I wanted to hug you when you jumped" Jungkook continued to pout, grabbing the box of pizza from Taehyung’s hands, then dragging him back to the couch, where the movie was still playing. He discarded the box of pizza on the table and pushed Taehyung onto the couch, straddling him and launching a tickle attack, making Taehyung gasp and plead for him to stop, unable to stop his laughter as he tried to curl into himself. Jungkook suddenly stopped, staring down at Taehyung, who was flushed, his eyes wide, and a boxy smile on his face. He looked up at Jungkook, confused, "what?" He asked, breathless. Jungkook just shook his head, smiling, "nothing, I just…I think I love you Kim Taehyung," he said, his eyes open wide, a shy smile on his face.

Taehyung sunk into the couch, stretching out, before reaching out to cup Jungkook's face, "I think I love you too, Jeon Jungkook," He repeated. Jungkook beamed at him, sitting back and pulling Taehyung into his chest, hugging him tightly. Taehyung settled, listening to Jungkook's heart beat steadily. "Want me to tell you what you missed?" He teased. "Shut up and watch," Jungkook grumbled, making Taehyung giggle. He leaned over, relaxing against Jungkook, and closed his eyes, sinking into Jungkook's embrace.

Notes:

Hi guys, soooo.... it's been a while. I don't know why I felt the sudden urge to continue this, but I had a bunch of ideas about the boys and felt I needed to get them off my chest. I'm working on a couple of one-shots within this verse, spanning across different times of their relationship. I hope you enjoy this!
