It’s our thing, isn’t it?

Summary:

Huey even remembered Louie once told him ‘not everyone has a boyfriend who can fly them anywhere on his back!’ when he’d gotten mad at him and Dewey for being late (to which, Huey fiercely denied that Boyd was his boyfriend, and Louie and Dewey teased him fiercely about it).

So, this really wasn’t all that odd.

Notes:

So for some reason, I suddenly remembered “Astro Boyd” (I think? That episode where Boyd gives Huey an aerial piggyback ride over Tokyolk). Then I suddenly thought, “Hey, that kinda reminds me of Inuyasha and Kagome”.
So then I had to write something, and now I can’t imagine Boyd and Huey not travelling like that together.

Work Text:

Huey was just about to leave, so he wasn’t expecting Boyd who rung the doorbell just as he opened the door.

“Hello Huey!” Boyd exclaimed, waving his hand.

Huey was suddenly very aware of how he looked and quickly straightened his shirt and hat, and pushed his bangs out of his eyes. He’d known that he had a crush on Boyd for quite some time. And he phrased it like that because he’d been crushing on Boyd since they were 10 and just didn’t know what it was.

“H-hi, Boyd. What are you doing here?” he asked. He didn’t remember them making any plans for today.

“You said that you were headed to the store.”

Huey recalled he’d texted him that about fifteen minutes ago.

“So I thought I’d give you a ride, since it’s a ways away,” Boyd explained cheerily.

Huey blinked, confused. “A ride?”

“Yeah!” Boyd nodded, then turned around and gestured with his thumb at his back. “Get on. I’ll fly you to the store. And then I can fly you and your bags back home!”

Huey stared at his back, then at the back of his head. “You mean, like when we’re on adventures?” he asked.

It wasn’t uncommon for Boyd to scoop up Huey and fly, or for Huey to scramble onto Boyd’s back, just so they could move faster. Usually, that was when they were running from something (or someone) dangerous though. And Huey couldn’t count how many times he’d fallen from a great height and Boyd was there to catch him, then fly him to safety. He had stopped fearing being thrown off a cliff and things like that, because Boyd was always there to save him.

And they’d flown around for fun too. They flew over Duckburg sometimes when they had nothing better to do, on road trips Huey often rode on Boyd’s back instead of in the car, and sometimes Boyd asked him if he wanted to go watch the sunset over the clouds. In fact, when they were together, that was often the usual way they got around.

“Yeah!” Boyd replied with a smile, turning his head so Huey could see it. “It’s our thing, isn’t it?”

Huey blushed, trying to hide his shy smile by looking at the ground. He liked having a thing with Boyd.

“Yeah, it is,” he eventually said, and climbed onto Boyd’s back.

When they were in the sky, Huey revelled in the feeling of the breeze on his face and his arms around Boyd’s shoulders. He hoped this would always be only their thing.
