Work Text:
When you’re in love with someone you can’t have;
Like how Tommy was devotedly in love with Ranboo, and yet he couldn’t have him.
-you need to leave them be, keep a distance, and hope to loose feelings.
But Tommy didn’t want to do that.
It’s so comfy being with them, and you never want to leave.
He thrived for the numbing flutter at the mention of the tall brunette, and the thought of loosing that feeling; kills Tommy, over and over, the more he repeats it in his mind.
Think of it as a warm blanket on a cold morning.
That’s a feeling Tommy will never undergo.
[Redacted] will be the one that’s encased in Ranboo’s arms on a winters morning.
But a blanket that switches temperature quickly; goes from comfortably heated, to uncomfortably freezing.
That’s how Tommy and Ranboo’s relationship was. Ranboo had come into Tommy’s life, a cosy blanket. Tommy really thought he’d finally get the warmth he’d been longing for.
A blanket that sucks all the warmth from you; although it doesn’t do it for itself, it does it for the next person- the next victim of its facade.
Tommy felt as though there was something between Ranboo and him, a possible relationship blossoming. But in the end, Ranboo took all the life from him, unintentionally, of course; and stored it for someone else. That special someone.
The next in line, the heir to that blanket, just so happens to be the one that the material had been saving itself for.
Tommy would never forget that gut-stabbing feeling when the news was shared; Ranboo and Tubbo were in a fully committed relationship. He had no chance.
The endless amount of times that the blanket spent, enduring the squeezing that it gave on cold mornings.
And although Tommy will never experience it, he had to take how Tubbo described the many moments, and could only imagine the phantom feeling of long, well-built arms, Ranboo’s arms, wrapped around his waist during cold mornings.
When you’re in love with someone you can’t have; you need to leave them be, keep a distance, and hope to loose feelings.
In Tommy’s case, he’ll never loose feelings for Ranboo. But eventually, he’ll learn to love him from a distance, and accept the fact that he will never get that warm blanket on a cold morning.
The endless amount of times that the blanket spent, spreading the warmth from your feelings, just for someone else; and that someone else isn’t you.
It will never be Tommy, it will always be Tubbo. And he had to accept that. Maybe not now, not in a few weeks - months, even.
But eventually, he will.
