Chapter Text
“You can't be serious." Erwin only shrugged.
"Of course I’m serious. You will make an excellent captain, Levi. Your skill—”
“No, no, no. Fuck that. I’m not a leader, okay? And I don’t want—”
“You’ll answer only to me. You’ll have complete autonomy otherwise. You can pick your own squad.” Erwin smiled mildly, but his eyes were lit with the playful fire they normally were in a game of chess. Levi chewed his lip, trying to find some other angle. “I will reiterate: you will answer to no one on the field but for me. You won't have any superior officers—but for me, and for the commanders of other branches if they stick their nose in our business, and even then, you would defer them back to me.” He waited, watching Levi's face for any indication of continued argument. When none came, his eyes flashed and his smile widened, ever so slightly. Victory.
“Tch.” Levi glared, but couldn't think of anything else to say. He watched as Erwin got out of his chair, straightening the straps of his gear and making his way to the other side of his desk. He reached his hand down to Levi, ready to help him out of the chair he'd curled up in.
“Let's have tea, shall we?” Levi narrowed his eyes.
“You are a bastard.” Erwin laughed. Levi took his hand anyways.
