Work Text:

Walking around late at night was often seen as a death threat. That wasn’t stopping Pete and Mikey from having a nice outing as a little treat called a date. It’s been awhile since they’ve been able to do this, especially between Mikey’s graveyard shift of a job and Pete…

“Uh we turn this way, right?” Mikey asked as he looked over at Pete

Pete thought for a moment before slowly nodding, “I think?”

Great. They definitely were lost. When it gets dark in their town, it gets really dark. Surprisingly, it’s worse downtown in the not so touristy areas. It didn’t help that Mikey had a bit of booze in him and Pete not being the best with locations. They had walked from their apartment to the downtown area, which wasn’t that far to begin with.

“Yeah let’s just turn down this way. I’m sure we can pull it up on a phone if anything.” Mikey said

Pete nodded, taking his phone out and tracked their exact location. “The Wi-Fi’s shit right here.” He sighed, “The map’s not fully loading.”

“Cool” Mikey chuckled nervously, slowly starting to walk and and Pete did the same, looking back and forth between the sidewalk in front of them and the phone screen, hoping it would load sometime soon. No luck however.

As Mikey was walking with Pete, he was examining the closed stores and soon-to-be stores that weren’t there yet before he averted his gaze when he heard something in the direction in front of them.

Pete looked up as well, frowning a bit. “Come on, let’s walk a bit faster..”

Mikey nodded.

They had been walking for a few minutes, and had actually figured out how to get back home from where they were. They were just talking the back routes instead.

To preoccupy the time, Pete had been cracking jokes with Mikey, both of them laughing like dorks in the end, “And so then-“

Boom. Down on the ground Pete went as he got a face full of gravel and dirt.

“Pete!” Mikey exclaimed, backing up a bit as he quickly spun around, grabbing the dagger he had sitting in his belt holster.

A shadowy figure simply smiled at Mikey as they made eye contact. Ah. Some fangs glimmered in the moonlight. The figure slowly walked around Pete, who was slowly making his way back up to his feet, coughing a bit. The figure moved quickly, kicking Pete down again. Mikey lunged forward with the dagger, only to miss. The figure laughed.

“All you humans are so slow. You’re dumbing down our kind.” They snarled.

Pete groaned quietly, trying to get back up again, being as stubborn as per usual. Mikey gently placed a hand on his lower back, signaling him to not go forward with that plan. Mikey was trying to remain collected and calm, trying to figure out to outsmart this unknown creature per se.

“Peter would’ve been such a fine recruit for us if you human didn’t step in. I don’t get what he sees in you even. I heard humans have such a great personality and libido. Is that it? Oh I’m sure.” They said, their tone in voice dripping with loathe and sarcasm. “I-“

Mikey cut them off, “What do you want from us even.” He snarled back as he got a bit closer to Pete who was just laying there, too worn out right now.

“I wasn’t done. What I was saying is-“

“Shut up. What do you want.” Mikey asked again, his tone angrier than before.

“Good god you humans don’t listen.” They laughed in a mocking tone. They looked down at Pete and smiled a bit before looking back at Mikey, “He’ll be as good as new once you’re out of his life.”

“Don’t touch him.”

“Or what? What are you going to do? Hurt me? You’re a pathetic human. You only have a dagger and I bet you can’t even throw for a matter of fact! What would you do if I just..” they trailed off, kicking Pete in the stomach with a laugh. Pete let out a scream, but it was a weak one at most.

“Stop!” Mikey pleaded. They were right, he was just a pathetic human. He served no protection at all to his boyfriend so what was even the point?

They rolled their eyes, kicking Pete again. This time, he went limp. “There we go. Now that he’s resting , I’ll be dealing with you another time.” They smiled, placing their hands in their pockets before casually walking away.

Mikey growled a bit, something sparking inside of him. He examined Pete for a second, leaning down and placed a kiss on the back of his head, “Wake up Petey. You’ve dealt with this before. You can do it again” he whispered before slowly standing up, gripping onto the dagger. He focused on the figure in front of him who was still slowly walking away, running as fast as his legs could carry him, taking a swing and missed yet again. Before he knew it, the figure grabbed a hold of him by the neck, slamming him against one of the building windows.

“I could easily send you through this window. Who knows, I might get lucky and you land on a big shard of broken glass!” They laughed

Mikey kicked and tried getting out his their grip. He was able to earn a kick to the groan, which lead to a punch in the face in return. Mikey gasped as he was dropped, trying to regain his breath. He was holding his nose too and with the blood slowly seeping out, that wasn’t helping his breathing.

“You little shit!” They snarled, kneeing Mikey, causing him to yell out in pain. Usually when it was this late in the night and people heard a scream, no one helped. No one dared to help that is. This town was overrun with vampires it seemed.

Mikey kept his eyes squinted as he tried reaching for the dagger before realizing he dropped it when he was picked up.

“Oh? What’s this?” They smiled, grabbing Mikey by the hair so he became more immobile than he was before, reaching down as they grabbed the dagger, “Look how the table’s have turned.” They grinned

Mikey struggled, trying to push their hands out of his hair, still kicking as he was on the ground.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if I just..” they spoke, taking the dagger and slowly moved it, placing the tip to Mikey’s adam apple and gave a gentle push. Mikey went still because one wrong move and it would be over. He stopped, his breathing becoming a bit shallower.

They traced the dagger around Mikey’s neck, spending time around his throat. “I think with the time you’ve wasted of mine, I only get something in return.” They spoke, moving the dagger to the side of Mikey’s neck, giving a bit of force once again. “But that would be silly of me, wouldn’t it?” They said, still gripping Mikey’s hair and leaned down a bit, smiling so Mikey could see their whole face, fangs and all. “It would.” They said before taking the dagger, pulling away before swinging it back into Mikey’s neck, piercing the skin and then some. They kept pushing until the dagger was poking out the other side.

Mikey wheezed, trying to lean his head back to release the weight of his head off his neck. With his hands, he kept trying to tap them, trying in a way to tap out, to get out of this mess. Like it was all some sort of dream. Some blood was dripping out of his mouth, adding onto his already fucked up face.

They laughed, keeping their face close to Mikey’s as as Mikey continued to struggle, hoping to see the light fade out of his eyes. “Humans like you deserve nothing.” They grinned.

Pete on the other hand, felt some consciousness come back into him, which resulted in him letting out a quiet groan, holding the back of his head as he slowly propped himself up. He blinked a few times as he tried to focus, slowly moving his head to look in front of him. He saw two figures in front of him, one standing over another as the one on the ground weakly struggled. He put two and two together before realizing.

That was Mikey.

Mikey. Mikey. Mikey.

My boyfriend.

My everything.

“MIKEY!” He yelled. Before he knew it, he was picking himself off the ground, his legs carrying him towards the scene at a fast pace as if he wasn’t unconscious a few moments before. He ran before tackling the vampire, putting as much force as he could.

This is definitely going to leave a mark in the morning.

Pete fought with the vampire, wrestling until he was straddling them. He was punching as hard as he could, trying to let the anger cover up how sad he was right now.

They simply just laughed, almost not putting up a fight with Pete. “Vampires like you who are born human are always going to be at the bottom. You’re never going to get anywhere.”

“SHUT UP!” He wailed, letting out a hoarse cry. He didn’t even know what he was doing anymore. He didn’t even understand the blood on his hands, the blood pooling underneath them. His punches became slowly weaker as he just broke down, slouching forward and letting out a loud cry. “Mikey..” he mumbled softly, his punches now only light taps.

“I think my job here is done.” They said as if nothing happened before disappearing into thin air, leaving Pete a crying mess. He sniffled, keeping his eyes locked on the ground as he carefully wiped his tears. He was visibly shaking, especially his hands. He was shaken up and was just in such a deep state of thought right now. He forced himself to calm down, standing himself off before looking himself in the windows of the vacant storefronts. God he looked like an absolute mess. His hair was tangled and matted looking, his face was messed up and his clothes were all bloody and overall just gross. He made his way over to Mikey. He breathed in deeply and let out a deep sigh. He looked out across the way, seeing the sun was slowly coming up. Have they been out this long?

Mikey laid limp, leaning up against the storefront, blood all over his neck, slowly starting to dry.

Pete thought for a second as he looked at Mikey, getting placing the back of his hand against Mikey’s cheek. He was still warm, thankfully. It wasn’t too late after all. Pete looked himself in the mirror again before throwing himself into the glass, shattering the glass. He caught himself before he sent himself onto the ground in the store though. It would be too late to get Mikey home in time so he just did what he could. He brushed some glass pieces that landed on Mikey before slowly picking him up. Pete wasn’t the strongest but then again, Mikey wasn’t the heaviest. He held a Mikey bridal style, slowly stepping over where the window should stand and walked into the store. An alarm should be going off by now, but Pete could care less. He continued to carry Mikey into the back room, which he assumed was the storage room. He turned around, slowly sinking down to the ground with Mikey still  in his hold.

The sun shouldn’t get us here, Mikes

Pete hugged Mikey, almost using him like a security blanket. He ran his fingers over the dagger lodged in Mikey’s neck before slowly pulling it out. “I know this hurts, sorry..” he whispered as if Mikey would answer him back. He watched Mikey as if removing the dagger would magically bring him back. No luck, obviously. Pete let out another gentle sigh before sitting Mikey’s body up off of him, removing his shirt so it wouldn’t get more ruined and stained. If that was even possible. Pete looked at his exposed skin, gently running his hand against it. “You’re so pretty.. I’m lucky to have you.” He said, nuzzling his head into the crook of Mikey’s neck. He moved his head back and forth a bit, settling his teeth on part of his collarbone area. He allowed his fangs to be brought forth and sank his sharp teeth to pierce the skin. After a moment, he pulled off, thinking what he was doing wrong.

“Oh yeah..” he said quietly to himself, taking his own wrist and bit into himself, letting out a wince. He made sure blood was dripping out of his wrist before he brought his wrist, dripping it over the large wound on Mikey’s neck, both sides.

Pete settled himself back against the wall again, holding Mikey again against his chest. He pressed his forehead against Mikey’s shoulder before just breaking down again. He let out an ugly sound, sobbing freely.

He was mad at himself for letting himself feed into his vampire urges like that. He was mad at himself for Mikey getting killed. He was mad at himself for everything. He was alone now in this world.

There was no coming back from this.
