“Emma! No! There has to be another way..” Regina growled, her entire body surrounded by the darkness.
Although it wasn’t that much of a new feeling, it definitely was different. It felt.. scary. Regina was more than afraid. She was horrified, panic-stricken at most.
Regina’s body shook as the darkness overtook her, her head tipping back in pain. She didn’t care if this is how she went out, she just wanted the pain to end.
“There isn’t!” Emma yelled, her eyes watering and her voice quivering. She knew what needed to be done.
“You’ve worked too hard to have your happiness destroyed!” Emma said, tears slipping down her cheeks as she watched the darkness overtake the one person she loved.
The one person who understood her, who was unique, just like her. Who never pushed her away or turned her back on her when she was at her lowest. Emma hated watching Regina in pain, and she could no longer stand it.
Emma raised her hand, which had the dagger clasped in it.
“I love you,” Emma whispered, her eyes staring directly into dark chocolate orbs.
And next thing Emma knew, her fist was flying, connecting with the darkness.
She closed her eyes, feeling the searing pain of the darkness slicing through her body, but when she opened her eyes, it was all worth it.
The excruciating pain was worth it because the darkness was leaving Regina and was no longer hurting her.
Emma attempted one last smile at the woman, but Emma watched as Regina ran into Robin's arms.
She ran to him and was cuddled into his arms like she belonged there. Like that’s where she wanted to stay for the rest of her life.
Emma closed her eyes for a moment, wishing more than anything that she could be in Robin’s place.
But she saw how Regina was looking at her. She was in Robin’s arms, but Regina was looking at Emma like she was the only person Regina could see at that moment.
Emma closed her eyes, wishing so badly that this wasn’t the last thing she saw before god knows what will happen to her, but that’s how life works.
Emma opened her eyes one last time, watching how Regina took a step forward, yelling out her name, and then Emma was gone.
She was gone so fast that Regina didn’t even get to say it back.
“Emma!” Regina yelled, falling to her knees with a sob, just as Belle had done when Rumple died along with his father.
“No….” Regina whispered, her eyes following as the dagger fell to the ground with an echoed clang, Emma Swan written on the blade.
