Eve lay in bed, a modest breeze from the fan keeping her more than cool considering she was still wet from her shower. They’d gotten back not too long ago from an Italian restaurant where they shared a big plate of spaghetti. Eve's slightly damp hair blew in her face each time the fan came back around. She pulled her hair tie off her wrist and put up her hair and thought about the day they’d had. Shopping, laughing, and teasing of all sorts. Eve smiled, smiled like she never had before.
She wondered aloud, “Does she have any idea how much I like her?” She sighed. Eve’s chest was swollen with.. well with something. She wasn’t quite sure. She hadn’t ever really felt like this before, not since her and Niko were first going out. Even then it didn’t feel like this.
Her and Niko weren’t in a constant need of being within a 1 foot vicinity of each other. Her and Niko didn’t stay up till the dead of night examining every single thing they could pull out of the other – regardless of how useless those small facts may’ve been. They didn’t dance the night away with one another, holding each other close as Unchained Melchanoy played in the background. This was truly unlike the other.
What was she saying, of course they were! Eve’s feelings for her always had their own place in her heart; one separate from Niko’s. A place that had begun overflowing with emotion since the first time they truly met one another back in Eve’s old home. How we’ve grown since then, thought Eve. She could hear the water turning off in the bathroom, and was growing impatient waiting for the other woman to step out and greet her with soft, large hands and meaningful kisses. She sat up now, leaning against the backboard of the bed, playing with a strand of her own hair, growing more and more restless.
“Hi Eve.” She smiled, wearing short shorts and a vintage looking sweater.
“Hey Villanelle.” Eve grew brighter, her smile somehow larger, when she saw her. “What happened to the fashionista I used to know?” She teased as Villanelle sat her towel on the back of the desk chair. “Hey I would’ve worn my fancy silk robe but
someone
decided she looked better in it.” She poked, accent strong.
“Hey I don’t think I look better in it I– it’s just comfy.” Eve argued.
“I meant me, Eve.” She said straightforwardly. Eve’s cheeks still flushed red even though she should be used to this by now. Villanelle stopped and starred at her from across the room. “Would you just–come and lay with me.” Eve asked, almost shyly. Villanelle smiled again, nodding.
She lit the candle that sat on their desk, making the room smell like sweet pine and a hint of christmas. Villanelle crawled into bed next to eve, both of them pulling the other into an inescapable embrace. But that’s okay. That’s what she wanted. That’s what they both wanted. Eve leaned in, kissing Villanelle, as they held each other. Villanelle squeezed her tighter, never wanting to let go. The both of them cuddled underneath the blanket, staring into the others eyes.
“I love you, Eve.” Whispered Villanelle.
“I love you too, Vil.” Replied Eve. They kissed again, Villanelle afterwards nestling into Eve’s chest, the both of them falling fast asleep in each other's arms.
“And it’s just as good,
As I knew it would be.
Stay with me,
I don’t want you to leave.”
