"Are you ready?"
"Just a minute! Let me go grab a drink."
Yongsun checks on her camera again to make sure their couch is in center frame. Byulyi returns to the living room, a bottle of Coke in hand, and flops down on the couch.
"What is that?" Yongsun asks. "You can't drink that on camera."
Confused, Byulyi raises her eyebrow. "And why can't I?"
"I'm not sponsored by Coca Cola. Do you have any idea how much free money we're gonna give to them if my viewers saw you drink that on screen?"
Byulyi chuckles at Yongsun's statement. "Are you serious?"
"Yes. So if you want a drink, either get water. Or drink that Lipton Iced Tea that I'm actually sponsored by. Use my Lipton cup!"
Knowing that she can't change Yongsun's mind even if she tried, Byulyi lets out an exaggerated sigh and walks back to their kitchen. She finds a big pitcher of lemon iced tea that Yongsun had made in the fridge and pours a glass for Yongsun and one for herself.
"Here you go, in case you also need a drink." Byulyi sets the two glasses down on the coffee table when she returns.
"Oh, thank you."
"Come on, go sit down and I'll set the camera for you."
Byulyi shoos Yongsun toward their couch and takes over checking the camera. She adjusts the lense so it would focus on the woman sitting on the couch. Byulyi smiles to herself while looking at the older woman checking on her phone. She's mumbling something, her brows furrowed. Byulyi thinks she's probably going over what to say when the camera starts. A perfectionist as always, that Yongsun.
"Okay, camera's good. Where do you want me to be for this?"
Yongsun gives it a thought. "I was thinking maybe I'll start the video alone first and then I'll cue you to come in and sit down next to me. Is that okay?"
"Sure. Whenever you're ready," Byulyi shrugs.
Yongsun nods and signals Byulyi to start recording. Byulyi presses the recording button and gestures at Yongsun. Yongsun mouths an okay and claps.
"Hello everyone! Solarsido~ I am Solar! Woo woooo!"
Byulyi follows Yongsun's signature greeting like it's her second nature. She tries to contain her laughter hearing the weird noises Yongsun always make when she gets hyped up for her videos.
"Okay, today's episode is a special one you guys! Do you know why? You know? You know?" Yongsun winks toward the camera, bringing out that natural charm so many people have fallen in love with. "From what I have seen on twitter and instagram, it looks like you guys are going bananas over the topic of a certain person that you saw in my videos sometimes."
"A lot of you Yongwangnims has been asking, 'Is she a relative?? Her manager? Bodyguard?? Personal camerawoman?!?!?' and I have decided to settle the debate, once and for all!" Yongsun claps her hands, a mischievous look in her smile.
"Please everyone, give a warm welcome to... drum roll please," she does the drumming motion and adds in her own sound effects with her mouth. Smiling widely, "Please welcome, my girlfriend, Moon Byulyi-ssi!"
Guess that's my cue. Byul quickly plops herself down next to Yongsun on the couch. "Hello hello!"
Yongsun smiles from ear to ear, "Byulyi-ssi, please introduce yourself to the viewers!"
"Really? You're making me have to introduce myself? What kind of a host are you?" Byulyi replies with a cheeky grin.
"Aish- Can't you just do it? Or you want to not talk for the entire video?" Youngsun tries to hide her smile as she rolls her eyes.
It always gives Byulyi a bit of happiness to her heart whenever she sees that subtle smile of her girlfriend, knowing that she's okay with her teasing.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Hi everyone, Yongwangnims, my name is Moon Byulyi, I am 29 years old, and I'm Ms. Solar's personal camerawoman slash manager."
"And girlfriend! Stick to the script, Byulyi!" Yongsun pouts cutely.
That got Byulyi to laugh. "You made that sounds like we're not really girlfriends and you're just making it up!"
"Well you started it! I- Okay anyway!" Yongsun pauses for a moment before she regains her composure, "do you know what we are doing here today?"
Byulyi nods and smiles lovingly at her girlfriend. "We're answering questions from the girlfriend tag challenge, yes?"
"Yes! But wait! There's a twist!" Yongsun looks to the camera, waving her index finger to emphasize her point. Her ability to talk to the camera as if there's an audience in front of her always amazes Byulyi. It's one thing she very much admires about the older woman, besides many other qualities that the older woman possesses.
"Today we will be answering questions from the girlfriend tag challenge, yes. But we," Yongsun has to add another pause, It's for the suspense, Byulyi!, she would say. "We! Are going to do a punishment game for whoever passes the most questions!"
"Ooooh," Byulyi is genuinely surprised. Even though Yongsun had told her about the gist of the video, the both of them weren't allowed to look through the questions before they start shooting, except Yongsun at least had seen the first question on the list to make sure it's a legit list.
"So each of us will answer one question about our relationship after the other, and whoever gets the most wrong answers or chooses to pass the questions more will have to do anything the other person wants for 24 hours!" Yongsun excitedly explains the rules to her camera then turns to Byulyi, a grin on her round face. "Well, Byulyi-ssi, are you ready to be my slave for 24 hours?"
Byulyi smirks at the challenge, knowing there's no way she would lose in a game about their relationship. She has at least 10 full photo albums documenting every moments and milestones of their life together after all. "Oh please, we all know you suck at games. "
Yongsun fake gasps, a sparkle in her mischievous eyes. "We'll see about that! I beat you in games one-on-one all the time!"
The couple settles down after a few minutes and begins with the challenge. They both take out their phones to look up the list, and Yongsun starts off with the first question.
"Ok, leggo! First question, where and how did we meet?"
Byulyi smiles and answers immediately. "Easy. Our mutual friends, Wheein and Hyejin introduced me to you 6 years ago because you wanted to do a photoshoot. I think you just started doing Youtube like a year before that," Yongsun nods, still very much impressed with her girlfriend's memory, "so you came to my studio and we had a meeting and I took some test shots for you."
Byulyi once again has the signature smug look on her face. "Wow, alright good job Moon Byulyi-ssi. Now it's my turn!" Yongsun lightly claps.
Byulyi looks at her phone to find the second question. "Umm, what was your first impression of me?"
"Oh I hated you so much. Not even kidding," Yongsun tries to keep a straight face, but fails to hide the little smile in her eyes. "You were so rude to me even though I'm older than you."
Byulyi whips her head back against the couch and laughs. She knows that answer was coming but it is always fun to hear Yongsun complains about their initial meeting; she knows every teasing words Yongsun says about her come with love, just like Yongsun knows with her own teasing.
"At first I was like 'This girl has no manners! Who the heck does she think she is?' because you treated me like a kid."
"Because I really thought you were younger than me! It's not my fault that you have such a baby face!" Byulyi continues to laugh, holding onto her stomach.
They bicker for a while again before Yongsun gets them back on track with the video.
"Ok Byul it's your turn again... Could you tell that I liked you? I guess they mean like before we start dating?"
Byulyi notices she had scooted closer to Yongsun on the couch while they were bickering earlier. She drapes her arm on top of the couch right behind Yongsun's shoulders but keeps her eyes on the camera.
"Definitely not when we first met that's for sure. But as we became friends and started hanging out more... I think I had a feeling? Or I was hoping that you do since I like you. But I guess I was never really sure until the day you decided to ask me out."
"So were you surprised when I asked you out?" It's now Yongsun's turn to proudly smile as if she had got a perfect score on a test. Her eyes never leave Byulyi's face.
Byulyi looks at her girlfriend, "Oh totally I was shocked. We hung out the night before that too, watching some movies at your apartment and then the next morning you randomly came to my place and told me you'd want to take me on a date. I was so shocked but happy at the same time."
Yongsun pretends to roll her eyes, "Well obviously I would have to be the one to ask the question. We all know you would have kept hiding your feelings probably forever."
"Hey! I was afraid it was only one-sided. I have a fragile heart, ok?" Byulyi pouts, flashing her puppy eyes at her girlfriend knowing they were her weakness.
Yongsun can't help but gives Byulyi a peck on her lips. I can edit this out later, she thinks to herself. She feels Byulyi's smile when she pulls her back in for another kiss. It's moments like this that make Yongsun wouldn't mind being the person to ask her girlfriend out for the first time over and over again if they were stuck in a weird time loop, no matter how terrifying that was for her.
The night before her confession, after Byulyi left her apartment, she couldn't stop thinking about the arm that draped around her shoulders, holding her tight as they lounged on her couch. She lied in bed all night thinking about how well they fit together, how just being near Byulyi brings her a sense of comfort not even her family has. She didn't get a wink of sleep that whole night as she imagined how their relationship would turn out if Byulyi knew and rejected her, imagined how much regret she would have if she kept it in herself, despite knowing it could ruin what they have. So she got up and waited until it was an appropriate enough time to go to Byulyi's place, making sure the younger girl got enough sleep before texting her that she was coming over, and laid it all out there after Byulyi let her inside her apartment. She would do it all over again if she has to, if it means she gets to spend the next 5 years in this happiness.
"Let's uh.. get back to the questions yeah?" Byulyi lets her go after a few more kisses. They both check themselves in the camera display for any make up smudges. Yongsun clears her throat a few times and waits for Byulyi to be ready. She knows she's going to have to do lots of editing and cutting out video parts after this.
"Um okay, Yong... Question for you... When was our first kiss?" Byulyi smirks right after reading the question.
Yongsun blushes thinking about their first kiss. Why does it have to be this question just right after what we were doing, she thinks in her head. She opens her mouth, ready to answer, but she's afraid she might end up leaving out too much details that her audience definitely doesn't need to know, like how their first kiss actually lead to their first night together, sexually. It was after their third date because they were both cowards and didn't know how to ask or make a move even though they were both ready to take on the next stage of their relationship. Her audience really does not need to know that at all. So she shakes her head and refuses to give a straight answer.
"Pass. Umm.. I forgot when that was." She's hoping to let the topic go, but of course, she's dating the number one troll in the world right now, so why would her girlfriend let her off that easy
"Aww come on~ really~ How could you forget such an important moment?" Byulyi flashes her devil grin, knowing exactly why her girlfriend's chubby cheeks are reddened. "You really want to pass on such. an. easy. question?" She pokes her girlfriend's cheeks with each emphasis on the words.
Yongsun has to stay strong, it's just one pass, I'm sure she'll get at least one wrong or pass somehow. She ignores Byulyi's teasing and moves on to the next question.
After 15 questions, Yongsun gets another wrong answer, thanks to Byulyi being a difficult judge, while Byulyi proudly calls herself the best girlfriend in the world for getting all the right answers. Yongsun already accepts her faith with the loss, but there is still one last question left for her to answer.
"Ok last one on the list. When and where did we go on our first trip together as a couple?"
"The sledding trip we went for your birthday in 2016. We spent 3 days at a hotel and celebrated our first Christmas as well."
Byulyi smiles, reminiscing of all the memories made on that trip. She has a video during that trip edited somewhere on one of her drives for sure. "That was like a month after we started going out with each other too, right?" she asks.
Yongsun shares the same smile, "Yeah, I had so much planning to do for that trip in less than a month."
"You know, after that trip with you, that was when I know I want to spend my birthday every year with you for the rest of my life." Byulyi leans into her girlfriend, grinning from ear to ear.
Yongsun groans in high pitch, eyes rolling but her smile never fades. "Aish- you're too greasy! You're driving me crazy. I'm cutting that part out. NG!" She gestures the scissors hand to the camera.
They bicker once again until Yongsun puts a hand over Byulyi's mouth to shut her greasy comments up.
"Ok folks, that was the girlfriend tag challenge. I hope this helps you learn a bit about our relationship, hopefully that was interesting for you. I'm sad that I lost but a deal is a deal so I'll be Byulyi's personal maid for 24 hours starting tomorrow. I don't know, maybe we'll record some of the footage if it's funny, maybe we won't. Byulyi, finally escapes from Yongsun's hand covering her mouth, adds, "I have so many photo albums covered in dust for you to clean. Like two hundred of them. Also I need you to give my family's corgis a walk, they're so chubby."
Yongsun pushes Byulyi off the couch before waving good bye to her camera.
