“No, no, no, no!”
You were suffocating, trying to breathe between your sobs. You knew something like this had to happen, it was too good to be true. If only you had realised it sooner. You were running on this rocky trail and you didn’t know how, but you managed to not fall headfirst. The rocks were rolling at your feet, the moon lighting your path, but the tears kept coming in your way.
Soon enough, you saw. The horrific vision you feared. Your worst nightmare. You blinked, almost as if you wanted to wake up, right here, right now. But it was real. Arthur was really and truly laying on the ground.
Your sobs regained vigour and you walked to his figure, kneeling beside him. Arthur slowly opened his eyes, a weak smile forming on his lips at the sight of you.
“Hey darlin’..” He said with difficulty, reaching for your hand. You took his with both of yours, your tears crushing on his clothed chest. “You know I hate seein’ you cryin’.”
A nervous chuckle escaped from your parted lips and you tightened your hands around his.
“Arthur I...” You tried, but the words refused to go.
Your man’s free hand reached for your cheek, brushing your skin sweetly. It was cold and made you shiver but you leaned in his touch, closing your eyes.
“Arthur I love you.”
“I love you.. too.. darlin’.” His breath was getting uneven. You could clearly see and hear that. His eyes were slightly closing again and you threw yourself on his chest.
“Please just stay with me. For one moment at least.” You were sobbing again, feeling his heartbeat getting slower and slower.
“Kay’ darlin’.. I’ll try..” His arm circled your waist, pressing you against his cold body.
“I’ll miss you. So bad.” You mumbled, your body shaking with sobs.
“I’ll miss you too, sweetheart.. But we’ll meet again.. Don’t worry bout’ that..”
You raised your chin to look at him and brought your lips on his sweetly, despite your hot tears. With that, a weak smile appeared on his face and he let out a long last breath, before closing his eyes forever.
