Annie let out a frustrated sigh, tossing her pencil down onto her notebook that laid on her blanket. For the last few hours she had been studying for her upcoming anatomy exam, and she was exhausted. Lightly shoving the books away from where she was seated on the bed, she checked her phone. A small pang of sadness welled up in her chest at the sight of no new notifications. She flopped backwards, her head landing on her pillow behind her.
Her girlfriend, Mikasa, had been out of town the last few days on some traditional trip she had with Eren and Armin. While she knew it was good that Mikasa was out having fun with her friends, Annie had a hard time being alone, a fact she still didn't want to admit to herself. Another frustrated huff left her slightly parted lips, and she aggressively turned on her side. Mikasa's side of the bed lacked the body she was desperately yearning for, so she settled for the next best thing.
Annie grabbed Mikasa's pillow, hugging it against her chest and burying her face into the fabric. Her girlfriend had been gone for almost a week now, dropping little updates every now and then, along with a few pictures of her having fun. She smiled at each picture, saving them onto her phone to admire when she was sad, but was ultimately happy that Mikasa was having a good time. The ceiling light glared at her, and she turned her face away from it, too tired to get up and actually turn the light off. With her face buried into the pillows, and her legs curled up to her chest, Annie fell into an uneasy sleep.
The next thing Annie blinked awake to was a dark room. The pillow was still hugged to her chest, but the blanket was now covering her. An experimental move of her legs resulted in none of her books being pushed to the floor either. The small blonde sat up, harshly rubbing at her eyes before she glanced around the dimly lit room. Her books were neatly stacked on top of her desk and the sound of water shutting off from the bathroom in the hall caught her attention.
Still trying to process being awake again slowed down her senses, and the door creaking open softly didn't alert her like it should've. The figure at the door paused for a moment before they spoke, her voice instantly making Annie smile. "Hi baby, sorry, I tried my best not to wake you." Mikasa tiptoed over to the bed, moving the covers over and laying down, making herself comfortable. "Can I have my pillow back?" She teased softly, moving the pillow in place once Annie had let go of it.
Annie's brain was still trying to process the fact that her girlfriend was in front of her, part of her thinking she was dreaming. She laid back down, close to Mikasa, but not enough to make her move away. "Did you have fun?" Annie asked, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. Mikasa let out a soft hum, opening her arms towards Annie, silently asking her to move closer so they could cuddle. "I had a lot of fun, but I missed you a lot." Annie didn't hesitate to move closer, resting her head on Mikasa's chest and wrapping an arm over her waist.
"I missed you a lot too." Annie confessed, only receiving a soft laugh in return. Even if Mikasa was laughing directly at her, she couldn't bring herself to care. All she cared about in the moment was being wrapped up in her girlfriend's arms. "I could tell you missed me. Passed out cuddling my pillow after studying, is what it looked like when I came home." In embarrassment, Annie rolled her eyes, fully aware that it couldn't be seen in the dark. "Oh fuck off." The blonde moved away from Mikasa, completely turning on her other side so her back now faced her girlfriend.
Not even a second later, Mikasa was already snuggled up behind her, and arm resting over Annie's waist, searching for her girlfriend's hand. They laced their fingers together, a smile making its way onto Annie's face. Annie was glad that her girlfriend was back, in bed, cuddled up against her as they both drifted off into sleep. Studying for her exam could wait a little bit longer, she decided, spending the entire day with Mikasa sounded like a much better plan to her.
