My name is Maribel Hearn. I was born in 2244 in the city of Arroyo. I am currently in line to become the next village shaman.
The current elder is excited by my increasing progress, having cured an outsider’s Jet addiction through telepathy. However, I have become increasingly aware of a world untouched by atomic fire, beautiful valleys, denizens wearing the most immaculate clothing, no radiation…
I can only confide in my best friend Renko, she was a Shi orphan taken in as an infant. She’s much more skeptical and science oriented than I am, she’s trying to become a doctor for the NCR, after all.
I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe. Just a couple hundred miles to the east there exists a settlement with dazzling lights and running electricity. Renko insists it’s not much better than Reno, but I doubt her.
But this isn’t like that, this is a whole other world. Not one of decadence, but of enlightenment.
