Work Text:
February was a happy month, for people in a relationship. Which meant that Cisco watched from the sidelines as people held hands and received chocolates. Along with the occasional make out session in hallways the couple thought were empty. No one wanted to date an average looking middle class pansexual male. Cisco sighed and opened his locker, only to see a small note sitting on his biology textbook that wasn't there before. He picked it up and opened it.
Good evening Cisco
I see you everyday and yet I can never feel like I've spent enough time around you. I wish I could see your bright smile more, see your beautiful hair more, and listen to your mesmerizing voice more.
Your secret admirer~
Cisco felt his cheeks burn as he stuffed the note in his bag. He grabbed his bag and made his way to the entrance of the school to wait for his mother to pick him up, so he wouldn't have to walk home in the rain. He sat down on the bench and listened to the pitter patter of the rain. He looked up when a person sat down next to him.
"Do you need something?" Cisco hadn't realized he was staring, he quickly looked down. He couldn't help but be surprised that Hartley Rathaway had sat next to him. He was one of the most popular people after all, well 'popular' is a strong word. Girls just swooned over the rich and 'mysterious' boy.
"Sorry." Awkward silence proceeded, "What are you doing?" Cisco tried to fill the silence.
"Waiting for a ride." Hartley thought for a moment, "Get any chocolate?" Hartley asked.
"No, did you?"
"Not any from the person I wanted. Do you have a favorite kind of chocolate?" Cisco debated telling him, wondering if Hartley was looking to tease him, though it just seemed like he was just asking.
"Not really a chocolate person. I like red vines and swedish fish."
"Fair enough, is that your ride?" Cisco hadn't even noticed his mother was here, sadly with Dante also in the car, "Thanks, nice talking to you." Hartley waved goodbye as Cisco jumped in the car. His mom asked the basic questions 'how was school?' and the rest before going back to discussing with Dante his plans for taking his girlfriend to a nice restaurant. The following day was rainy and cold, just like yesterday. Cisco found found another letter in his locker.
Good Morning Cisco
I hope your day is filled with joy just as you fill my heart with warmth and comfort, like a warm bowl of stew on a rainy day.
P.S.- look in the empty locker in the B wing- couldn't fit your gift through the gap.
Best wishes, your secret admirer
The message peaked his curiosity, he checked the time and he had a few minutes before first period. He speed walked his way to the B wing. A quick glance around and he found the only locker without a lock, inside was a note, thermos, a piece of fresh bread, and a bag of mixed bag of gummy like candy.
Hello again
I hope you like beef stew! I wanted you have something as warm and cozy to eat as you are.
I heard you like gummy like candies as well.
Your secret admirer~
Cisco opened the thermos and inhaled the warm aroma of the stew. He had brought his own lunch, but the stew smelled way to good. After stuffing the food in his locker he went to first period, barley able to think about anything other than his secret admirer. At lunch he scarfed down the stew and bread, and some red vines and swedish fish from the candy bag. Cisco was wondering who this person was, but how could he figure it out. It was as if the notes appeared in his locker right before he got there. The bell rung and off to AP physics he went. He sat down in his usual chair and waited for the somehow always late teacher to come in. Cisco dug around in his bag and realized he had forgotten his pencil.
"Do you have a spare pencil?" He turned towards Hartley. Hartley nodded and started going through his bag for a pencil. A piece of paper fell out as he pulled out the pencil. Cisco bent down and grabbed the paper and the handwriting looked familiar, he must of looked at it to long and Hartley snatched it out of his hands.
"Here." Hartley handed home m the pencil with a slightly nervous look on his face. Cisco thanked him and tried to do his work, but couldn't focus on it. Hartley couldn't possibly be the secret admirer? But the handwriting and the candy, that he told him about yesterday? All the clues pointed to him. Cisco wouldn't deny the fact that he though he was cute, but he wouldn't go out with someone just because of that, he needed to know them beyond the pretty face. He didn't know if Hartley was willing the wait for him to be comfortable enough to really start dating. Cisco didn't like confrontation, but that seemed to be the only way.
"Hey Hartley." Cisco whispered, "Meet me on the field after school." Hartley gulped and nodded. After school Cisco went outside and sat on the field to wait, he watched the track team run sprints until Hartley sat down next to him.
"You wanted to see me?"
"Yes, uh, are you the person leaving me notes?" Hartley nervously nodded without looking him in the eyes, "I'm not mad or upset. I just wanted to let you know that I don't just want to start dating or doing really intimate stuff yet. Without getting to know you better first."
"I never wanted to force you into something. I just don't know how to get people to like me, so I thought writing to notes would make me sound smooth and more confident. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable" Cisco could understand that yet he couldn't help, but laugh a little at the idea of of the schools, mysterious and confident pretty boy, being shy, "Um?" Hartley said confused.
"Sorry. Just not what I expected from you. Not in a bad way."
"So, could we go hang out at lunch tomorrow and just get to know each other better?"
"Definitely!" Cisco grinned.
