Work Text:

Dolores had just gotten married. The wedding went off without a hitch. Seeing how happy she was as she danced with her new husband, Mirabel sat with her sisters and began thinking.

“What’s up, sis?” Luisa asked, “I can hear your brain working from over here.”

Mirabel laughed once and smiled as Camilo came to join them at their table. Antonio was somewhere on the dancefloor, killing it as usual. It just left the other older cousins to chat amongst themselves. Turning her head, Mirabel answers. “It just makes me think about when I get married, ya know? Maybe whenever all of us get married. Don’t ya think?”

Isabela scoffed loudly at that. “No thanks. Not for me- not for a while, at least. Maybe never.” She lifted her hands to look at them. “I’m finally getting to see the real me. I’m not ready to settle down- I’m just getting out there!”

Mirabel nodded. “Understandable. How ‘bout you, Luisa?”

Luisa hadn’t been paying much attention, watching the dancing, and blinked at the question. “Huh?” She looks down at her sister. “Oh, that. Nah, I already have people proposing to me multiple times a day.”

The other siblings sat up straight. “Really?” They squawked in unison.

“Oh yeah- it’s honestly pretty fun. I like watching everyone squirm when I look at them before I say no.” She grins at the others. “I’ve made a couple guys pass out before. I'm still waiting for the right person, I guess.”

“That sounds awesome,” Camilo says with a sigh. “I would love to make people pass out.”

Mirabel smirks and nudges him. “How about you?”

“Yeah, Camilo,” Isabela also smirks and rests her chin in her hands. “Any pretty girls in town catch your eye?”

Camilo rolls his eyes at her and sticks his tongue out. “Yeah, okay.”

“Hey, I’m serious!” She pouts. “There’s really nobody in town that you like?”

As the three sisters stare at him in anticipation Camilo stiffens before eventually deflating. Blowing air out of his mouth in a bit of a huff, he finally speaks.

“I mean, there’s been some people sometimes, you know?” He takes a cup from the table and looks into it. His reflection looks back up at him. “But when you can just be anyone you want, you get bored fast. Like, sometimes I’ll find someone I like and I’ll wanna be them so I can see them all the time. But then, like… I dunno, I just get bored after that. It’s hard with my gift, because I can get too familiar with how people look and act. And then I end up forgetting why I even liked them in the first place.”

After his confession, the other Madrigal children fall quiet for a moment. They all just sit there and look at him, clearly shocked. Camilo starts stiffening again in the silence- his shoulders slowly rising up toward his ears in embarrassment.

“I guess I never thought of your gift like that,” Luisa says eventually. She reaches over and rests a hand on his shoulder. He smiles sheepishly up at her.

“Sheesh, way to kill the mood,” Isabela teases, gently pushing on his shoulder.

He frowns at her. “You’re the one who asked!”

“Do you ever get bored of us?” Mirabel asks then, cocking her head to the side.

Camilo laughs. “You guys? You’re all so crazy, I don’t think I could get bored if I tried.”

“Aww, we love you too, 'cuz.”

Mirabel smiles. “Well, since no one is gonna ask, I think I want to find someone who has perfect vision. I don’t want my kids to have to deal with breaking their glasses all the time in this crazy house.”

The others all laugh.

Notes:

*shrugs* I'd love to write a story about Camilo, but I'm white as bread and I'm absolutely positive I would fuck up something or write something unintentionally offensive. So I'm just gonna not do that.
Here's this short little blurb, instead.
