Chapter Text
“Avada Kedavra!”
She couldn’t see where the spell came from but the evil Lord burst into an intense green light. The light exploded and burst through the bedroom window as if a ball of essence was escaping.
Bursting into the room came a man in black robes with equally black hair. He was out of breath and franticly looking around the room.
It was Severus Snape. He had cast the killing curse on what should have been his dear leader. He locked eyes with Lily and ran to her. She fell into his arms and burst into tears. The young child in the crib was crying as well but he was safe.
“Lily, Lily it’s safe, I’ve got you, you’re safe.” He said with a tone of relief and anxiousness. They sat in a heap on the floor for what seemed like hours but was mere minutes. “James! Where’s James!” She had come to her senses. As she sprung up Snape begged her, “Lily don’t, don’t go yet.” But she wouldn’t listen. She scrambled out of the room and into the hallway where she saw James lying dead on the stairs. She collapsed again in tears and could hardly keep herself upright.
“He was dead when I arrived Lily. I’m sorry for that.” He said with a stoic tone. There was nothing more that he could say. Yes, the man had caused him nothing but pain, but he had not wished him dead. He knew Lily’s heart would be broken. Lily’s heart, the only thing Snape had every truly cared about in his whole life.
“Please Lily, let me help you, let me put you in a chair.” She pushed him away and couldn’t speak, her cries had taken over all of her senses.
Snape walked back to the room of the child and saw the breakage of the window. Though his body was seemingly destroyed, Snape knew the dark Lord powers, and knew his death could not be that easy. He looked over at the child, a mix of emotions welled up in him. For the dark Lord to kill a child was reprehensible, but HER child, he could not let it happen. For one thing he knew Lily would do all she could to save him, which would no doubt end in her death. Losing Lily would be the greatest loss of his life. He would risk anything to save her, even if that meant a dangerous threat to his own life by his fellow death eaters. The repercussions of his deeds would surely come swift once the word got out.
“Severus, Severus, I don’t even, I can’t…” “Lily, it’s okay, the boy is unharmed.” She laid back against the wall and started to take some deep breaths. “What do I do now? My husband is dead, and my life is nearly destroyed. Where do I go from here? What do I do?” She rose to her feet and walked to Snape and put her arms around him. He had saved her life and the life of her child. Though her mind was a blur, her oldest friend had come to her aid. He was all she had to lean on. “I know he was here for Harry, but what is to become of us? They’ll know we’re alive, they’ll try again.” He put his arms around her, he couldn’t help but feel that her in his arms was what he’s always wanted. All his choices had lead to their separation. His love of dark magic and his desire for power had driven her away. But here she was, needing him, and he would be there. They both would need help now, but from whom? Dumbledor, that’s the only person who trusted him, and would take Lily and the boy in for protection. If they moved fast enough, it could be done. That meant leaving the scene, leaving James on the stairs, and Lily leaving her hopes and dreams behind.
