Chapter Text
“Are your fingers crossed?”
“They’ve been crossed all this time! They’re getting cramped at this point.”
Felix looked up from his phone for the first time in twenty minutes, frowning. “Cross them harder, then, it doesn’t seem to be working.”
Chris laughed. “Sorry!”
Felix hummed, already back to focusing on the screen. “Okay, here goes nothing.”
Chris had tried to understand the game once, aided by Felix’s enthusiastic explanations, but by the time he’d started talking about constellations and elemental attacks and whatever the hell pity systems were he’d been fully lost. He’d contented himself with knowing when to cheer for him, and when to pat his head and console him when he lost the 50/50—that one always made Felix whine the loudest—and he selfishly enjoyed the warmth of their bodies slotted together as Felix frantically tapped the screen.
A loud gasp ripped him from his thoughts. Felix had gone still in his lap and he was staring at his phone. “Holy shit!”
“What, what, did it work?” Chris used his still crossed fingers—he wasn’t one to lie, when Felix demanded to rest his head on his lap because apparently he was good wishing luck, he did his best to help.
Felix sat up abruptly, his mouth wide open. “She’s home!” He giggled maniacally. “Only took me like seventy pulls, my baby is home!”
Chris did not get jealous of the animated characters in Felix’s game. He did not—
“Isn’t she the prettiest?” Felix sighed, lying back down. His hair was soft and just a little bit ticklish against Chris’ bare legs. He looked up and grinned. “You can stop crossing your fingers now.”
“Oh.”
He must’ve been making some kind of face, because Felix laughed openly then. His laughter did this magical thing where it jumped from a high pitched giggle to a guttural cackle, his face shining all along. Chris fought the sudden desire to run his fingers through his hair for maybe two seconds before he gave in. “So, you got…”
“Kokomi,” Felix grinned. “She’s so cute, look at her!”
The character on the screen was surrounded by what looked like jellyfish and arcs of water, and even if she looked exactly like the other dozen characters Felix showed off gleefully whenever he had the chance, he had to admit that she was pretty cute. “Not as cute as you, though,” he said before he could register the words coming out of his mouth.
Felix snorted. “You’re so cheesy.” He was sprawled on the sofa, all tension drained from his body after stressing over the wishes for so long. He wiggled around until he was fully comfortable and looked up at Chris with a glint in his eyes.
“What?”
“Do you wanna see me play now?”
Chris thought of the open glee Felix showed when he killed a weekly monster, and his gasps of excitement when he got to ascend his favorite characters, and, what could he do but pet his hair more and nod?
