Work Text:
Kojiro didn’t think of anything he enjoyed more than these early mornings with Kaoru. He had never been a morning person, mornings meant the start of a long day and then the rolling on of an evening filled with whatever flavour of the month he was with this time. He didn’t have to worry about that anymore, he was with Kaoru now. He had Kaoru to come home to, he got to see him during the day if the other got hungry and came in, the two of them would be able to go to the reformed S without having to really worry about watching the other hook up with someone. It was nice and it felt like it was a perfect relationship.
That was only made better by the morning blowjobs. Wasn’t everything made better by morning blowjobs? That was just how it all worked, right? Everyone was getting blown before their alarm at 6am and that was how they all managed to cope before they had to go and work a full shift? It was the way that the world worked.
Kojiro didn’t know if he would ever get over the way that Kaoru swirled his tongue around him, the weight that he seemed to hold when Kaoru reached up and toyed with his balls a little. It was all pretty amazing, there was something honestly amazing about Kaoru’s mouth. It was sweet and supple, it was soft but experienced, and Kojiro would be driven wild every single time that tongue or that mouth was on any part of him, he had no idea how he had gotten so lucky but he had. He groaned softly and pushed his hands through the beautiful pink locks that were currently under the covers. He wanted to push them back so that he could see Kaoru but he also appreciated that it was freezing outside of the comfort of their little duvet cave. The pair had been living together for almost three months and they were still trying to understand how their new place worked. The winter had seemed to sneak up on them this year. He knotted his hand in the other’s hair, careful not to tug too hard as his boyfriend worked him. He could barely stop the groans from escaping his mouth. He was in the middle of telling Kaoru how fantastic he was when the vibrations from the table next to them seemed to grow a little too much for him. He hated that the stupid ‘do not disturb’ function seemed to have turned itself off. It was stressing him out far too much that the phone was steadily vibrating across their bedside table.
He attention was quickly stolen from the phone by the fact that there was a familiar pooling sensation in his stomach, he knew what was about to happen. “Koaru, fuck, baby. I’m going to cum.” He told him. He barely had time to finish the sentence before he found himself spilling into the other’s mouth. He was panting softly when Kaoru moved himself up so that he could come face to face with his partner.
“Did I hear your phone ringing already? It’s barely turned 6.” The pink haired man commented, sitting up just a little so that he could fix his hair. He was quite clearly a little miffed by someone potentially interrupting their morning ritual. He shook his head for a moment before he settled back down. He liked that he was able to settle into his boyfriend’s arms in the morning while they waited on their alarms.
“Yeah.” Kojiro huffed a little, reaching over to grab the phone from the side table. The number that had been calling wasn’t saved in his phone and he didn’t recognise it. Adam briefly flashed across his mind, but he knew that he would have used Tadashi to call and Kojiro actually had his number saved. Hiromi was pretty much a text only kind of guy. He also knew that none of the kids would be awake any time soon so it was extremely unlikely that it was any of them. He had absolutely no idea who it could be. “Probably one of those weird ‘can we sell you insurance’ calls. They seem to be starting earlier and earlier.” He commented to Koaru. He moved his hand again to gently toy with a piece of Kaoru’s hair that was still hanging loose, it almost reminded him of how he would wear his hair in high school. He really had loved him for the longest time and he could barely believe that he had actually spent so long messing around with anyone else when he could’ve had Kaoru if the two of them had just been honest with each other.
The two of them allowed themselves to relax for a little while longer in the bed before they got up to start going about their days. The kitchen always seemed a lot fuller when Kaoru was occupying it and waiting for his breakfast. It was apparently an office day so Kojiro naturally had to rush to make him something that would keep him going until lunch, which it was likely that Kojiro would end up having rushed over to him so that he knew that he was getting something of substance. “Try to have a day where you don’t get yourself too stressed out? I’d actually like us to spend time together tonight without you hissing or practically spitting.” The green haired man joked, planting a soft kiss on his lover’s cheek the moment that he could. “I love you.”
“I make no promises but I love you too. Try to have a good day, I hope that the lunch rush is kind.” Kaoru smiled softly at him, drawing him in for a deeper kiss. It was nice that he could let himself show this softness when they were alone. It was obvious that both sides of the partnership always found goodbyes difficult.
Kojiro busied himself with getting ready for work once Kaoru had left, only for it to be interrupted by the same number that had called him earlier. He decided to actually let his curiosity get the better of him, scooping the phone up and answering it. “Hello?”
“Kojiro? I didn’t know if you’d changed number or something.” A familiar female voice slipped through the phone, all Kojiro could really remember was that it started with an A. “I don’t know if you remember me… We spent a night together after S last year? Auri?”
“Yeah…” The confusion was becoming increasingly evident in his voice as he spoke. “I remember.” Dyed red hair, a piercing or two and a very interested outfit came to mind as Kojiro forced himself to remember.
“Perfect, great. There’s a small cafe near your restaurant, Litre? Was wondering if you could meet me there. There are some things we need to talk about. Would 10 this morning work for you?”
“Sure, yeah. I can move some things around.” He had definitely given Kaoru some kind of STD, this was something really serious and he had no idea what was going to happen if he lost Kaoru over something that had happened closer to two years ago than one. It was stressing him out. He needed to be there and he was going to. He was going to make sure that he already prepped himself to give Kaoru whatever news he needed to as well.
It felt like Kojiro was crawling towards 10, the minutes dragging as he got as much prep done as he possibly could when he got to the restaurant. He desperately hoped that it wasn’t going to be anything too tough to tell Kaoru, he didn’t want him to end things. They had finally found each other romantically again, he had been waiting his entire life for this and now he felt like it was all going to be pulled away from him. The thought was still rushing through his head when he walked into the small cafe. He was definitely going to have to take Kaoru’s lunch to him in person, that would make this all easier. He frowned for a moment when he saw Auri, her hair still the same bright shade of blue and a jacket on her shoulders. There was definitely a stroller next to her, a stroller that he desperately wanted to contain some kind of aging dog.
“Auri?” He double checked as he sat down opposite her. There was definitely not an aging dog in the stroller but an extremely loud, babbling baby. “I’m going to guess this is what you wanted to talk to me about?” He questioned, glancing towards the child.
“Yeah, I’m sorry. This is Hari.” She said quietly. “I was kind of content to not disrupt your life with this, I know that this isn’t a choice that I should’ve made but it was what I thought would be best.” The guilt was evident in her voice, Kojiro didn’t really blame her for that. He had been awful during the period he’d been trying to deal with his feelings for Kojiro, he had been the kind to ‘hit and quit it’ as Reki had once put it. He wasn’t proud of that.
“It’s okay, I-uh- I don’t know that I would’ve been all that receptive.” He admitted. “But…”
“Why now?” She interrupted his thought, laughing softly. “I’m accepting a job overseas, I did some tech work in the US during my degree and now a company has shown interest. It would be long hours, my family are all here, you’re here. I wish I could explain more but I can’t afford a two bed right off the bat either. I would like to ask you to take care of him. We can go through and do a paternity test if that’ll make you more comfortable.”
“Yes. Of course.” The agreement didn’t seem like much of an argument to him. He wanted the little one to have a home where he could see his family, where he could be around his father. It wasn’t like Auri couldn’t visit when she was at home or Kojiro couldn’t take him to her. Kaoru would understand, right? He would get that this wasn’t really something he had a choice in and he had just been an idiot. Kojiro had to hope. “I don’t need a test.” It was plain to him that this woman wasn’t after him for money or he was sure that she would’ve chased him before this. It wasn’t like he had that much to give and he was pretty honest about that.
He was surprised with how quickly the two of them had managed to sort out the new arrangements. They’d come to agreements far faster than he normally ever did with Kaoru and he supposed that was why she’d never quite sparked him the same way that his partner did. He needed someone to contrast him and if he didn’t get that with Kaoru then he wasn’t sure how to explain what exactly their relationship was. That was his new issue. How in the hell was he going to tell Kaoru about this? He was going to have to. He guessed it wasn’t exactly good etiquette to just show up at home with a baby so he’d made some arrangements in terms of giving them some time to get used to the idea. He hoped that Kaoru didn’t hate him, he didn’t know how he would take having his heart ripped out because he didn’t just abandon the kid he’d just found out that he had. He started the speech at least 200 times in his head when he returned to work. How could he explain to Kaoru that he was doing this? That there was this weird surge of emotion in him the moment that he held the tiny little cherub in his arms? How could he ever explain that the baby grabbed his finger and he never wanted them to let go? It was all going to destroy him.
The thoughts were still roaming around his head when he got back to the house after his work day, it was all he could think about. He was so lost in his thoughts that he just walked straight to the kitchen, not even yelling a hello in the direction of his love’s office.
“Have I done something wrong?” Koaru’s voice instantly pulled him out of his thoughts. He jumped at the sound of another voice in the room. He silently hated that Kaoru’s footsteps were so quiet and that he could just sneak up on him. He knew that there was no sense in prolonging it all and it was better to just rip the bandaid off.
“I think you need to sit down.” He told him, motioning towards the breakfast bar. There was nothing lacking in the kitchen, it had been designed to their standards and Kaoru had ensured that it featured everything he had imagined for his life with Kojiro. The pink haired man’s eyes seemed to search for an answer to his question still even when he had taken a seat, he looked terrified. “Things are going to change.” Kojiro explained. It felt like it took a lifetime to explain everything, how he met the baby’s mother all the way through to what Hari looked like. He felt like time had completely slowed down for him.
“So there’s a baby?” Kaoru finally said, it had been about 5 minutes but that might as well have been 5 years for Kojiro. It felt like the guilt of a child that he didn’t even know existed had eaten him up. “And they’re going to be living with us? He’s going to stay here?” He questioned, pulling the cardigan that he was wearing around himself tighter. Kojiro nodded. “Then we should probably get started on picking things out for a nursery. We’ll convert the second living room. It’s closer to our room, we’ll need a baby monitor but it won’t be too hard to manage.” The relief that swept over Kojiro in those moments was unexplainable. He was going to get what he wanted, he was going to get a family with Kaoru.
****
It was surprising how fast a week went when you were dealing with a baby. It had felt like a lifetime for both of them in all honesty. It had simultaneously felt like it had rushed by as well, Kaoru had spent forever picking things out for the nursery. Kojiro had to admit that the place looked a little futuristic but he was told that everything would monitor Hari carefully and it would be fine. It would mean that they wouldn’t have to wait up randomly and rely on instinct for everything. He wasn’t quite sure how it could be so attractive, watching someone get all prepared and excited for a little one. Maybe becoming a father would be the making of Kaoru.
He had never felt quite as nervous as he did the morning of Hari’s arrival. The two of them had opted to book the day off so that they could ensure the baby had settled in. The week had been filled with some first meetings and ensuring that Hari knew who they were. They’d been given milestone markers and even scheduled the calls to his mother weekly. It was going to be tough and the adults understood that but Kojiro was sure that it would be worth it. It would be enough for the two of them to have this little one, they would become a family and it would be everything he’d dreamed of. Hari’s arrival wasn’t the spectacle that he worried it may become. The goodbyes were sad and Hari clung to Kaoru when his mother had finally left the house.
“It’s okay, my small cherub.” Kaoru told him, stroking the little green haired boy’s cheek gently. It was the softest that he’d seen him in a long time. Kojiro could feel his heart melting just a little more every time he looked at Kaoru holding the small child. “I believe that it might be time for you to have something to eat.” Of course Kaoru had memorised the little one’s schedule.
“How about I make a start on some of those beets that he loved the last time we fed him? We’ve got them all cut up, right my love?” Kojiro raised an eyebrow. He walked towards the fridge to grab the food that had been prepped. The two of them had spent what felt like forever making sure that they had chopped all of the vegetables that Hari liked. It had meant that their fridge was completely packed out and Kojiro was very excited about that.
“They are. I’ll make a start on his formula, little man is going to be starving if we don’t stick to the schedule. I don’t think we want his first day with us plagued by memories of hunger for him.” Kaoru pointed out. He was very aware that the little one could develop a memory at literally any time, he didn’t want his first memory to be one where he was starving in the care of his fathers.
“I think you might be reading into that a little too much, Precious.” Kojiro couldn’t resist teasing the other just a little. He hadn’t called him the name in a little while.
“I absolutely am not! He could literally become a conscious being at any second and it isn’t my fault that you aren’t taking that into account.” He argued. He watched Kojiro plating up the beets a little. It was kind of attractive to watch him take care of a child, even Kaoru couldn’t deny that.
“Okay little man, bon apple teeth.” Kojiro grinned as he walked the food over to the high chair that Hari had been placed in. The little boy looked up at him skeptically, his eyebrow raising. The moment that the plate was placed in front of him, his eyes lit up just a little.
“Ab-ba-ba.” The little boy declared before he promptly slapped his hands firmly into the beets.
“I don’t think we should be doing that!” Kojiro told him quickly, moving so that he could lean in next to him. He wiped the baby’s hands in his bib just a little. He picked up the spoon to try and start offering him the beets. Clearly, that was the wrong thing to do for the little one, very offensive to his small sensibilities. It immediately caused him to start shaking his bottom lip as his eyes welled up.
“Ab-ba?” He seemed to question his father with the sound. The small sounds were also literally with little bit of teariness. It was pretty adorable in Kojiro’s opinion even if it was upsetting to see the little one in that mood.
“What’s going on!?” Kaoru turned to see the scene, bringing the bottle over. “Why is he sad?” He questioned.
“You know, I asked him and he said something about the economy.” Kojiro told him, his words dripping in sarcasm. “Come on little guy.” He scooped up some of the beets and started to hold the spoon towards the little boy’s mouth. “Don’t we want to try this? We can eat it. We don’t need to make a me-.” His words were completely interrupted by the little boy slamming his hands into the beets again, sending them flying over both of the men that were currently stood next to him.
It was becoming clear that this wasn’t as easy as either of them were anticipating.
