“Oh, come on, Mimo,” Kiawe pleaded. “You know that you can’t just go out trying to catch Pokémon all by yourself.”
The sun was still bright, and the sweeping clouds outside were soft and fluffy, but it was too late in the afternoon for his little sister to go out without any supervision.
Mimo creased her brows determinedly. “Yes, I can!” She protested loudly. “I’m ten years old now, and I wanna catch my own Pokémon!”
“Mimo, it’s going to be dark outside soon,” Kiawe told her frankly. “Mom and Dad don’t like you out so late when you’re all on your own, you know.”
With a triumphant little smile, Mimo informed him, “Mom and Dad don’t need to know that I’m going out this afternoon!” She blinked her eyes once, then twice. “Oh, please, big brother!” As her features pulled into a pout, it was clear that she knew the best way to lower his defenses. “I’ll be back before dusk, I promise!”
“You’re getting too old to be pouting, Mimo,” Kiawe grumbled back. “I’ll just tell Mom on you.” Who knew that a day would arrive when he’d use such a threat himself rather than hear it thrown at him by Mimo.
Determined to get her big brother to sway on his stance, Mimo replied, “Then you have to come with me.”
“What?”
“You have to come with me,” Mimo repeated. “I wanna catch a Pokémon, and if I can’t go get it myself alone, you gotta come with me!” The pout returned. “Please? You and Turtonator and Marowak can keep me safe!”
At that, Kiawe’s heart softened, and he could feel himself giving in. “Oh, alright, Mimo.” He called Turtonator and Marowak from their Pokéballs before nodding at the door. “Let’s go.”
Mimo beamed. “Thanks, big brother!”
