Work Text:
Sam gets to heaven and the first thing he feels is his brother’s arms around him, holding him tight to his chest. Then, he feels the sunlight hitting them, the wind blowing cool against his tear stained cheeks, hears the birds and the water of the lake lapping against the rocks. Once Dean lets him go, he pats his shoulder before allowing him to look over at where Dean had come from before Sam had shown up.
There on the grass sits a long picnic table, most of the seats currently occupied by various faces he hadn't seen in what feels like forever. Bobby Singer sits with his back to the boys, his regular cap on his head to block out the sun that should be harsh but feels just perfect on Sam’s skin. Bobby’s wife and Jody sit at either side of him. Jody isn't grey haired anymore, like him she is young again. He can hear her talking from here.
Sitting across from them are Jo and Ellen Harvelle, with Pamela serving drinks to everyone as Ash picks music from a radio that looks homemade. He isn't able to make out what they're saying from how far he stands.
Castiel sits at one head of the table, an empty chair pressed up against his. Dean’s jacket hangs off the back of it. He’s smiling at Jo with a familiarity they didn't have when they were both alive, Charlie talking animatedly to the pair.
A bark brings his attention from the table and he sees Kevin and Garth throwing a stick into the lake, a dog jumping the water and causing a large splash. Linda Tran takes a picture of her son laughing as Garth follows into the water.
Dean gives his shoulder a gentle shove, leading him to the table. Now he can hear Ellen recalling a story of something Jo had done, the latter balking at her and trying to defend herself. Jody cuts in to talk about the time Claire had run off on her own to hunt a werewolf and instead found out it was a yorkie.
Sam sits at the other head of the table, Dean leaving him to sit next to Cas. Their shoulders are touching but they find a way not to bump their elbows into each other. They’ve had years of practice. Bobby says that Jack should join them in a minute. God can get busy after all.
Sam smiles. He’s home.
