Work Text:
It was a casual day at the Knights of Favonius. Knights scurried in and out of duty, Lisa sitting at her table drinking her third “afternoon tea”, and Jean working furiously once more as Kaeya stayed by her side giving his “useful” suggestions.
But all went silent when an explosion was heard.
Now, everyone in the Knights of Favonius would immediately assume that Klee, once again, escaped from her solitary confinement to blow up the fish near the walls of Mondstadt, but one look at the door and she, too, was staring curiously, her head peeking out of the door of her room.
This could only mean one thing.
-
“Ahh! Ohhh, no. The experiment failed!” Sucrose cried out, barely being able to see. Her poor spectacles had been blown away by the explosion, and her face was soot black. She crouched on the ground, feeling around for them.
She felt something being placed on her nose and oh! I can see again!
She wiped the soot off of her clothes, deciding that they certainly would need a more thorough washing, and sighed, standing upright.
“Sucrose, are you alright?”
Right. She forgot her boyfriend, and yet still her mentor, Albedo, was here with her. On a typical day when they weren’t dating, he’d be in Dragonspine right now. Perhaps she had gotten used to working alone, but having someone in her company is something she would definitely not refuse.
Well, especially in the case of Albedo, I guess.
“I’m alright! Just a bit surprised is all. What did I do wrong?” She only replied, “I was quite sure this would produce the results of the hypothesis that I had written down.”
Albedo took one glance at the table. “Well, I think the hypothesis and your ingredients are mostly gone now. We should start cleaning up.” He extends his hand and takes hers, walking together towards the table when—
Slam.
“Sucrose! Albedo! Are you alright?” Acting Grand Master Jean burst through the doors before anyone else, being the leader that she is, she always wants to ensure her knights’ safety.
Both Sucrose and Albedo jump, and immediately release each others’ hands as if they were on fire.
Did I mention that this dating thing was a secret?
Both Albedo and Sucrose had their doubts on whether their relationship, when public, would be disapproved of by many.
After all, Albedo, a homunculus, never knew what he would become if he lost control of himself, and this information was only known to Sucrose herself and his good friend Kaeya, who in return revealed his true origins too.
On the other hand, Sucrose, who was a shy, introverted person to begin with, was worried about this relationship being interpreted wrongly. She had heard that teacher-student relationships were frowned upon, that the student was only using the teacher to gain something.
Of course that wasn’t true, but Sucrose didn’t want to be disliked by people she knew, so…
Back to the present. After Master Jean, Kaeya had entered the alchemist’s quarters, where a startled, yet red-faced Sucrose and Albedo stood.
“Oho… our two favourite alchemists were goofing around a little too much?” he joked, causing their faces to turn even more red, looking away from each other. “I say, you two are the cutest people on the planet. Other than Master Jean here of course, wouldn’t want to disrespect her in front of her.”
“Kaeya.” Jean deadpanned. “Now’s not the time for ‘fun and jokes’, you know.”
“Oh Jean, you really are strict on him. Relax, he just wants to lighten the mood here!” Lisa pipes up, taking her slow walk here. It's actually surprising she was one of the first to arrive.
“Oh right, and look at their faces! They have never been as stiff around anyone else! Except that one time when Sucrose was being pushed around by a strange man, I think his name was Tommy-” Jean threw her hands in the air, “The joke did not help at all!”
“Hey, I tried, okay, it hurts my feelings.” Kaeya seemed to contradict himself with the calm tone he used. “And- oh!”
“Big brother Albedo! Big sister Sucrose! Klee was worried when she heard a boom noise that wasn’t from Klee’s bombs!” Klee pushed her way in between Kaeya’s legs, her adorable face bringing smiles everywhere. “I hope you’re okay.”
“Don’t worry, Klee, Sucrose and I are fine.” Albedo finally spoke up.
“And there we have our answer. Klee, next time I want to interrogate Albedo about something, you might be my best bet.” Kaeya winks at Albedo, who in turn rolls his eyes back at him, “We can start with the first question. First! Does Albedo love Sucrose?”
“Klee, don’t-”
“Mister Kaeya, I thought everyone knew! They love each other veeeeery much. One time I saw them doing something with their mouths and then, another time big brother Albedo was holding hands wi-”
“Klee!” Sucrose yelped, covering her hands.
“Wait, hold on. Sucrose, WHAT DID KLEE JUST SAY??” Jean, as if only now realising the situation, raised her voice in concern.
“Uh- uhhh…” Sucrose could only stutter as she tried to find an excuse.
Suddenly, she felt a presence beside her, and looked up just as Albedo pulled Sucrose protectively beside him by the waist.
“Well, if the secret’s out, so be it.” Albedo cast a look at Sucrose, who, immediately after hearing that, her eyes had widened and, resigning to her fate, looked down.
“It’s as Klee said,” Sucrose murmured, but she was loud enough for all present in the room to hear her.
There was a silence as her hesitation was obvious, tension palpable in the room. (Except for Klee, of course. Her innocent mind could not comprehend what was going on.)
“We’re… well, dating.”
…
“FINALLY. I thought I’d never see the day.” Kaeya rolled his eyes. “To be honest, I’d never expect for you to finally be dating. I swear, you two have been pining at each other for far too long.”
Lisa broke into a smile. “The cute couple finally gets together! It’s as Kaeya said, I thought I’d never see the day! Congratulations!”
“Indeed. I congratulate you on your relationship.” Jean added.
“But can we GET ON with cleaning up this mess now?!”
“Y-YES MA’AM!”
