Work Text:
You knocked on the door a bit more harshly than you intended while suppressing your hiccups and uneven breathing. Shuffling could be heard on the other side of the door, and when the seventh born opened it, you immediately flung your arms around his shoulders and sobbed. He nearly fell back from surprise but held you tenderly once he realized what was going on. Belphegor wasn’t one to comfort, at least with words. For you though, he could’ve tried, but he decided it was best to keep quiet.
Belphie caressed your locks of hair and waited for you to steady your breaths. Occasionally did he wipe your tears with his sleeve despite knowing fresh ones would come from your bloodshot eyes. You calmed yourself down after moments of weeping away on the demon’s shoulder, cheeks flaring in embarrassment from what you just did. He didn’t seem to mind and led you into his room, closing the door to make sure no one else would barge in and saw you distressed.
He muttered at you to relax in his bed and tucked you in afterwards. You were soon surrounded with extra pillows and given a plush of a pink sheep to hold. Belphegor laid next to you once he finished making the bed extra cozy for your liking. Usually, he was the one being coaxed into resting on the other’s lap, but he’ll stop being a brat just this once. Your head was placed on his soft thighs and petted by his gentle hand, the other resting on your waist. Glancing up, you saw Belphie’s tired eyes showing a glint of warmth and the corner of his lips barely tugged up.
The way he was being considerate for you had you smiling again. You hugged the sheep plush in your arms and closed your eyes, snuggling closer to the demon’s stomach. His fingers continued to stroke you in a slow pace before gradually slowing down from drowsiness. By the time Belphie fell asleep, you were nearly drifting off yourself.
Your smile remained as your final thoughts were heartwarming. Belphegor didn’t bother to ask why you broke down or why you came to him for comfort specifically. He didn’t bother to speak and tell you to stop crying. Though it might sound unsympathetic to another, you were fine with that. Sometimes, the best way to comfort a person is with peace and quiet. And surrounding them with pillows.
You got Belphie’s hand and held it next to your cheek, giving it a kiss. The Avatar of Sloth stirred with a tender smile.
“I love you too.”
