Work Text:

In a world where everyone has wings as a representation of their souls. The wings can look fluffy, menacing, or even transparent, it differs for each person. These wings are often kept inside their body and not shown to other people unless they’re absolutely trusted. This is because as the representation of the soul, the wings are linked to their very own lives. If these wings are ripped away, then the person will die.

In this world, Cale Henituse never shows his wings to anyone after the death of his mother.

In this world, when Kim Rok Soo becomes Cale Henituse, he notices the presence of his ‘wings’, and as wings are connected to the soul, Cale Henituse’s wings change to mirror Kim Rok Soo’s own soul. Just like the Original Cale Henituse, he doesn’t bother to show his wings, especially at first when he’s around scary people such as Choi Han and the Molan Duo.

His first time showing and stretching his wings in the open is in the Super Rock villa, having been coerced into showing them by his curious children.

The sight of his wings surprised everyone in the vicinity.

This excerpt is months after that initial surprise.

One day, Raon asks his human.

“Human, why don’t your wings heal?”

Cale blinks at him from where he's dozing off on the bed. On and Hong stir from their sleep too, their yellow eyes now staring in curiosity towards Cale.

The redhead in question simply hums, his wings shifting a little bit. The moonlight filtering in through the windows is enough for them to see it, the tattered wings with so many cuts and cracks on them. Scars upon scars that do not fade no matter how many times have passed.

"My wings heal," Raon points out, remembering his old soul wings--different from his dragon wings--that are nearly destroyed beyond repair, now looking nearly as majestic as his dragon wings. The cracks are still there but no longer unbearable. The scars are still there but faint and hurt no more. The same can be said for On and Hong as well, their wings soft and fluffy, the previous scars now faint enough they'll have to look properly to find them.

But Cale--he always looks so stoic. He looks so confident and sure of himself. He has a scamming smile befitting of an evil person despite him being a good person, and he is everything Raon knows when it comes to warmth and parental love.

Cale's life is nice. He has a family. He has money. He lives a rich lifestyle. and yet, the first time he lets his wings out in front of them, and the other times he lets them stretch out-- his wings are battered, scarred and hurt.

Raon can't comprehend why.

He can’t heal Cale’s wings too; soul wings are mirrors of the soul, its scars not something you can give healing magic and pour potions on them for them to heal. The one who has the wings themselves has to heal, especially mentally.

Doesn’t it mean that his human is hurting? That his human is not as happy as he looks?

"Human, are you hurting?" he can’t help but ask, worried. "Is someone hurting you? We have to pay them back! This Raon Miru will destroy everything! I am great and mighty! I can do it!"

Cale looks confused. "But I am fine, though."

"But your wings!!" Raon exclaims.

Said wings flap once. Twice. Cale looks back to peek at them.

"Mm. I'm really fine though. it doesn't look that bad is it?" Cale muses, "I'm used to it, so it doesn't feel weird or anything."

"Crazy," On voices out.

"That's right, noona is right," Hong says, his expression intense.

"We really can't leave you alone, human!"

"What????"

The human looks confused, but Raon has decided. His siblings seem to think the same too. The human is hurt. It's not physically, but his human is hurt inside. That's why human always talks about wanting to rest. Well, he will protect the human! He will make sure his human can rest and play with them, so his human won't worry anymore!

If there's anyone bothering them, he'll destroy everything. EVERYTHING!

That's a promise he'll keep.

Extra notes:

Cale’s wings are like that bc Cale has Record. On, Hong and Raon have their own trauma, and when triggered they will remember them, but they have new memories and new positive emotions that help to cover those sad memories and trauma. Basically their soul wings are mended together and patched up by happy memories.

Cale is more or less the same, he does get new happy memories, he does heal. But because of Record he can’t actually forget anything, and sometimes he does have the tendency to just shove his angst and trauma aside and act as if he’s fine. But he’s not. Because of that, his soul wings mirror that condition.

Whenever he remembers his traumas when he lived as KRS, the wings will sometimes turn even worse before slowly returning back to its previous condition.

So basically just imagine this,

Cale reading the letter GoD gave him:

“Kim Rok Soo, you were the one who was supposed to die.”

BOOM SUDDENLY THE WINGS START TO GET NEW, LARGE CRACKS

Everyone in the room: ?!?!??!?!?!???!!!!

Fun stuff, everyone.

Notes:

Hi, if you guys are waiting for updates for my other fics, I'm sorry but it'll take awhile. My mom has been diagnosed with COVID and is in a critical condition. She's getting better very slowly but it's fairly obvious I will have less motivation to write bc of this... This excerpt was written like 4 months ago, and I'm like, well, I won't make an actual ongoing fic for it anyway, so why not just post it as it is? So here it is. I hope you like the idea. It has potential (for fun angst and misunderstandings heh)
