Meeting of Roses and Lilacs

Summary:

A weak, sad human girl becomes a magical girl and discovers how wonderful her new life is - and how terrible her old life was.

Work Text:

???: It hurts so bad...

The girl on her bed stares blankly at the ceiling.

???: Is this just my life forever?
???: I wish everyone could just be happy...
???: I wish I was in a world where everything was nice... and I can smile with my friends... like a romance movie... or a magical girl...

With those words, everything is swallowed in darkness. Not even the faint glow of the moon through the windows is there anymore. This pitch darkness mutes all of the girl’s senses, even her ability to tell how much time it has been.
Breaking the silence, an eye pops up. And then another. And then several more follow, all around the space. From a direction that can only be identified as up, a collection of pills of different kinds spill to the ground, completely free of any container.
To nobody’s perception, the silhouette of what can only be a person with curly hair and butterfly wings stands near this puddle, all eyes now shifting towards them.

???: a magical girl, huh...?

~~~
In the middle of a sunny day, a girl dressed in black and white in a style that can only say she’s a teen jumps energetically from one side of the streets to the other, not a care in the world. It’s actually quite amazing how nobody notices her unique look, or her flowery attitude, or her superhuman jumps with neverending stamina... or maybe they do? Either way, she’s not worried about it.
This is the first time she’s ever gotten to dress like herself, or act like herself, or have a genuine smile, and nothing is going to ruin that. It almost feels like way too much power to her, but that’s not something she sees as a complaint.
What is a complaint, though, is that other people don’t have the same benefits. Doesn’t that just suck? Surviving through a sad life, with no magic to it... She wishes she could do something nice for those people. And actually, she can. She’s the one who’s just gotten a one-in-a-million benefit, if anyone is going to do something to help those in need, it’s her!
Speaking of...
A faint cry is heard in the distance. Jeez, seems this girl’s gotten lost in the emptier parts of town amidst her thoughts... Usually a situation like this would be something to stay away from for her own sake, but...
The crying continues, followed by a sharp sound of air being sucked in, then exhaled into another shaky wail. This is really happening? Is someone actually crying in the streets? They sound like they need help. It’s scary at first, but the girl quickly decides she can take care of herself if anything bad happens. This might be an opportunity to be a helping hand for once...
She turns around an alleyway to see it’s mostly empty, except for a young, frail person sitting in front of a garbage dumpster, shaking. This person holds a bloodied box cutter in their hands, and their body is covered in cuts. Oh no.
The girl walks up to this vulnerable teen, and tries to say something.
???: A-aaahh... Hey...
The sitting person is startled and looks back at her with wide eyes, slightly parting their smudged black lips. She stumbles back a bit, eyes attempting to dart away.
???: Are you... alright? Im sorry for... errrr...
???: it's nothing to worry about.
They whisper that in a cutting, serious tone, in opposition to their face which says they’re just about to cry.
???: No, it’s okay... can I... help you;
???: i don’t need your help.
???: Are you sure; I won’t push it if you really... don’t...
The fact that this person currently is wearing nothing but a black dress and has bruises and scars covering their skin is a bit of an indicator that they might, in fact, need help of any kind.
???: i-i said... leave me alone.
Their voice finally breaks as well as the tears in their eyes. They put one hand on the ground as if they’re trying to get up but fail, and around them rise thick spiked vines, swooping their way into a shape that doesn’t know if it’s a cage or a spear. They’re covered in bright red blooming roses, a shade so intense it sticks out from anything near the vicinity.
Oh... This wasn’t expected. So this can only be...
???: Hey, hey, it’s okay! I’m a magical girl too, actually...
???: ...?
The frail teen’s face lowers into more of a curious feel, which somehow looks just as surprised in a different way.
The vines begin contracting back into the ground, flowers closing along.
???: you... too...?
???: Yeah!
They finally give in and let the girl approach them as they stare at the floor.
???: Can I help you get up?
???: i can do it myself...
And such they do.
???: You’re, um... not doing very well...
???: i’m sorry. i messed up. i’m so sorry.
???: Let me finish! We need to get some treatment for you... it’s not good to be on the streets with all these wounds.
???: yeah...
Standing up, the two seem to be about the same age, and dressed in a similar style - or they would be if one of them was more dressed to begin with. They start walking out of the alleyway side by side.
???: Er... What’s your name again?
ROSA: it’s rosa.
???: Oh, that’s sweet! Mine is... ah...
ROSA: ...
Oh, the street is empty. That’s convenient...
LILAC: ...It’s Lilac, ehehehehe.
ROSA: that’s... a really cute name.
LILAC: Thank you!! We’re both flowers.
ROSA: hm... that’s somewhat interesting.
LILAC: Riiiight?
It might be a good idea to distract Rosa from the injuries before the duo gets someplace safe. Lilac hopes she can start a conversation.
ROSA: so... can i ask what’s your ability;
LILAC: Ah, um... I’m a doctor!
ROSA: a doctor...?
LILAC: Ehehehe, well... It’s specifically complete control over human bodies and their functions, but that’s basically a doctor... right?
ROSA: i’m not sure your definition of a doctor is so accurate.
LILAC: Well, what about you; Rosa? And while we’re at it...
Rosa flinches for a moment when hearing the name being said, and her short, curly black... or brown?? hair ruffles in response.
LILAC: Can I ask... what kind of pronouns do you prefer people use for you?
ROSA: ...
ROSA: it’s... she/her. thank you. what about you?
LILAC: Ah, I go by she/they...
ROSA: of course.
ROSA: and those vines you saw...
“Hey”, they hear a loud, annoying voice yell out from around the street, and follow with an insult that could not have been allowed in this paragraph.
LILAC: Oh no...
A group of worthless, cruel creatures, sometimes known as “teenagers”, show up and stare at the two girls with a grin in their faces.
“Look who’s got a buddy now”, one of them yells out provocatively, causing the others to laugh. Yikes... Do these people think everything is funny?
LILAC: Er... I would like you all to leave us alone, if possible?
“Oh, but you’re just so much more fun to make cry when we can hurt your little buddy too... We didn’t think we would be getting to spend extra time with you on this lovely Sunday,” and then they call Lilac another insult that will not be written out, as the strongest of them steps forth.
ROSA: lilac...?
LILAC: Ehehehe don’t worry, this happens, uh, all the time! It’s nothing...
Rosa glances at Lilac concerned, clutching one of her hands on her chest. The herd of vile things starts taking out their cellphones as another stronger one from the group steps towards Lilac.
“Let’s have some fun with our favourite -” and they let out another word that shall not be mentioned “- to play with”, they yell out, as one of them picks up a rock from the floor and throws it at Lilac’s forehead, knocking their back towards the floor alongside drops of blood, leaving them dizzy for a few moments.
ROSA: lilac!
LILAC: Its... o...kay...
Rosa starts to sweat and look all around nervously.
“Do you guys think we should finally take his clothes off?” one of the repugnant excuses of nature asks, being responded to with multiple yells of “yeahhhh!” as blood flows down Lilac’s face. They start stepping closer.
LILAC: Ah... um... I didnt... think...
But before she could finish her sentence, giant thorny vines suddenly grow from around Rosa, sprouting scarlet roses, and fenagled themselves into piercing through the bodies of all the rotten excuses of life that were torturing the other magical girl.
ROSA: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
LILAC: I was just... um,,, actually... I couldnt... yknow...
ROSA: did you even HEAR what they were going to do to you? you could’ve gotten SERIOUSLY hurt. why didn’t you defend yourself? you could have made them walk away at any point, you couldve even turned them into your zombie slaves for the rest of your life!
Rosa’s spiked tentacles are already draining all the bodies dry of their blood, making their roses sprout and shine an even brighter red. As for the girl herself, she is sweating and breathing heavily, with every word coming out as a struggle.
LILAC: But that wouldnt be very nice of meeee!
ROSA: oh my lucifer, you’re helpless.
LILAC: Ehehehe... Im sorryyyyyyyyyyy...
ROSA: well, seems like i’m not the only one who needs help.
Rosa offers her hand to help Lilac get up, which she accepts.
LILAC: You really... did a number on them, huh?
ROSA: that’s how you learn to live as a magical girl. no point hesitating once you know someone isn’t a good person.
LILAC: Thats a good way to think of it, maybe~ ehehehehehe
By talking to Lilac, the other girl is calming down. Lilac, flustered, scratches the back of her head.
LILAC: Ill just heal this injury, I guess... um...
ROSA: you really need to protect yourself more.
Lilac closes their eyes, and the injury on their forehead starts to close.
LILAC: Well, er... weve learnt a lot about each other today, I guess, havent we? Ehehehehehehe~
Rosa blushes.
ROSA: i... guess.
LILAC: I think well make great friends!
Lilac holds Rosa’s hands in her own and raises them to be inbetween each other’s faces.
ROSA: ...friends?
LILAC: Oh, unless you werent thinking of that!!
ROSA: no, no, it’s okay.
ROSA: i... think we’ll make great friends too.
LILAC: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa great!!!
The two girls smiled while staring at each other, feeling comfort in one another in the middle of this cruel world.
