Work Text:
Why me?
Bright red and embarrassed, Sakura shoved her way through the throngs of students crowded in the campus hallway. It was the first day of her second week of university and she still hadn’t settled in. She still didn’t feel comfortable with the easy way students handled their studies. And with the fact that most didn’t bother with anything more than what was needed to graduate.
She felt like an idiot, because it was so obvious if you took the time to find out. Sakura had been so focused on getting into this university that she didn’t research what life was actually like here.
Nobody warns you that it’s not important.
Not really.
She’d had no idea this was what university students did instead of studying. The throng of bodies in the hallway moved like a wave as they all made their way to wherever they were going. Some were heading to the numerous extracurricular activities that were attended instead of long study sessions, while others were sorting out their plans for parties or other such frivolous excursions.
(Most students still attended all their classes; they did want to pass, after all.)
Sakura sighed, defiantly heading toward her class instead of skiving – though that was the issue. Most students were there, already taking notes. At least here, it felt like people cared about their grades.
She settled into her chair, trying not to think about what she’d just witnessed. But the image of her new friend and a guy she assumed was her very loud boyfriend banging each other in the girl’s dorm room was now seared into Sakura’s brain. Most students didn’t live on campus and, not for the first time, Sakura silently thanked her parents for convincing her to commute from home.
The lecturer started talking and Sakura pulled out her laptop.
But the finer points of Molecular Cell Biology were lost on her today as she shifted in her seat and stared out the window on the far side of the room. She couldn’t see much from here but the Pine tree outside the small glass pane was swaying slightly in the breeze, and it was far more interesting right now.
And it allowed her mind to drift.
The sight of her friend naked and splayed out like that was embarrassing, but it was also a reminder to Sakura of the very real reason she even applied to Kyoto University in the first place.
Neji Hyuuga.
This crush of hers had started in high school. She’d known of him only through his cousin, Hinata, who’d been a good friend of Sakura’s in school. She and Ino both, both of whom ended up enrolling at Doshisha University, which was still in driving distance from Kyoto University, but Sakura still felt like she’d left them behind. It wasn’t like she’d chosen Neji over her friends consciously, but in the back of her mind, this idiotic crush had taken over her life in a way she’d been in denial about.
Kyoto University wasn’t the only college with an amazing medical program, but she told Ino and Hinata it was the best. This was her excuse for accepting the scholarship. Her parents weren’t going to be able to pay for every semester – the first two for sure, but after that it got iffy.
Ino was always telling Sakura she didn’t need to apply for a scholarship. “Just choose a university you can afford. We’re only going to party most of the time, anyway.”
“You mean you are, pig.”
Karui, her new friend who apparently had a habit of fucking her boyfriend in her dorm, had also agreed.
“I’m telling you Sakura; you study too much. We just need to pass.”
It all made sense now – that pitying look both of them had given her. Why couldn’t they just tell her about this lax tradition? The pale arse of Karui’s boyfriend (at least, she assumed that was her study buddy’s boyfriend) was like a slap in the face. It was even more horrifying because Sakura couldn’t remember what she’d even been doing, going to Karui’s dorm room in the first place.
This is all Neji’s fault.
He was just too hot. Too mysterious. It was a weakness of hers. Pretty boys and stand-offish personalities.
He didn’t notice her as anything other than Hinata’s pink haired friend, back in high school. A blimp on the radar, delegated to his peripherals. She didn’t blame him for not caring about her because the two branches of Hyuuga no longer talked to each other. (Hinata was mum as to why, every time Sakura asked.) She just wished, for once, that he’d at least acknowledge her existence, even if it was just to look down his nose at her. It never happened.
Sometimes she thought she felt his heavy stare on her and looked up only to find him reading a book or mid-conversation with people, whatever. He wasn’t looking at her. So, she would reluctantly go back to presuming she was invisible to him and studying her arse off as the best distraction. Ironic that her determination to do so had led her to following him to university.
Kind of.
Sakura sat up straight, snapping her eyes back to the front of the lecture hall and tried to focus on what was being said. But her mind continued to flash back.
Sakura was rummaging through her locker the first time she saw Neji. Hinata’s cousin was well loved, and his reputation preceded him. He was always on-and-off dating that Tenten chick and Sakura grudgingly knew they looked good together, despite the fact that she wanted to be the one stroking his arm in the hallways.
Then he graduated and Sakura found herself unsure what to do with herself. She would probably never see him again and resigned herself to it when her own senior year rolled around; Sakura spent that final year trying to put him behind her by actually dating and focusing on her academics. (The guys in her year weren’t total losers, after all.)
She almost lost her scholarship by spending so much time carousing. Five missed study sessions, a frazzled looking Ino, and concerned Hinata later and Sakura was back on track. Following her crush instead of her brain.
Sakura tried to tell herself it was because of the amazing curriculum in Kyoto University, and that it had nothing to do with Neji. But deep down she knew she wouldn’t have worked herself so hard if he hadn’t been accepted there as well.
She was so pathetic.
And now that she was here, she realised that life in university was much more lax than high school life. GPAs did not matter in employment recruitment, and she looked up the ratio and found that only a minority of students never graduated, despite this.
Do Ino and Hinata know this or am I the only one who didn’t notice?
She really needed to get past this. She was obsessing.
Sakura tapped her leg impatiently and quickly left when the bell rang. She was done dwelling. It was time to decide what she was even doing here. She skipped her next class – it was an easy one anyway – and met up with Karui for lunch. Pretending she hadn’t seen her nude over an hour ago was easier than she’d thought. There was nothing to be embarrassed about when the dark girl didn’t even know she’d been accidentally spied on.
“You going to Omoi’s party tonight?”
Sakura shrugged. Maybe she should get out more. Take in the scenery. Maybe sign up for a few unnecessary, extracurricular activities herself. Maybe start dating. If only to stop the nagging thoughts that she was missing out on something important. “Maybe. Will there be drugs there?”
“Maybe.”
“Omoi’s your boyfriend?”
“Eew!” Karui threw a noodle at her. “No way!”
“Fuck buddy?”
Sakura grinned as the dark girl glared at her. So, this Omoi character she’d not been introduced to yet wasn’t the skinny, pale skinned guy from earlier. She decided not to push the matter. They’d only started studying together for a few days (they’d clicked so fast that the pinkette considered them to be friends, even if Karui didn’t yet), so it was too invasive to ask about that right now.
“So…” Sakura leant back in her chair and lifted her ramen bowl to her mouth to eat it, letting herself trail off.
Karui rolled her eyes. “Yeah, there’ll be drugs. Ain’t there always at parties?”
“Hm.”
“Whatever. You done with the first module yet?”
They talked shop for the rest of the lunch before Karui had to take off. Something about a very rambunctious date. Sakura inhaled deeply, sitting back and sipping at her non-alcoholic cider. The shock of everything was wearing off surprisingly fast. Maybe she’d known, in the back of her brain, that college was just a weird vacation, after all. As she contemplated what to do with her free time, her mind kept going back to that brown haired man who’d unknowingly lured her here.
Sakura had seen Neji a few times the past week, her heart beating out of her chest and breath hitching every time. There was no familiar brunette on his arm anymore. No girl with two Chinese-style buns on her head. No Tenten.
Are they over?
Sakura had nothing personal against the girl – she hadn’t been some bully or snobby girl – but her hopes were high that she and Neji were no longer a couple.
Neji didn’t have another girl on his arm either, which was another tick in the plus column.
I’m pathetic.
She finished her food and started wiping the table down absentmindedly. Her phone rang and Sakura almost upended her tray scrambling through her shoulder bag. She just missed the call from Ino and groaned. The blonde wasn’t going to let her get away with that. They didn’t see each other enough anymore, apparently. Even though she’d seen her just yesterday and had an open invitation to her house on the weekend. Ten seconds later she was staring at Ino’s text. She texted back. Ino was inviting her to a party.
Is everyone but me partying these days?
Sakura hesitated to agree to the invite. It was for Friday night and also included a demand to meet up tomorrow in Downtown Kyoto for lunch. She sighed. Sakura was about to agree, since she owed her, and the blonde was persistent, when she felt that intense stare on her again. That familiar feeling, she hadn’t experienced for over a year was oddly distinct.
Neji?
She looked up, her eyes widening as she spotted him. Staring right at her. Those lavender eyes peered into her, even from across the large expanse that was the Kyoto University cafeteria. He wasn’t holding a food tray, just leaning near the entrance doorway.
What the hell?
Was she imagining things?
She noticed the smartphone in his hand just as her phone went off again and Sakura tore her eyes away from Neji to find out who was texting her now. The number glared at her. One that she knew all too well but didn’t have saved to her contacts because she was ashamed of her stalker past.
Neji is texting me. Oh my god.
Sakura stared at her phone not sure she could believe what she was reading. She only knew Neji’s mobile number because she’d looked him up and memorised it long before getting a handle on her obsession. He hadn’t changed the number in years. But… this couldn’t be Neji texting her now, right?
She was too scared, suddenly, to look back up at him. What if he’d left and it wasn’t him? Worse yet, what if it was him? Whether she wanted him to be the one texting her or not, she wasn’t sure. Butterflies churned in her stomach as she narrowed her eyes, cursing her cowardness.
He probably thinks I’m an idiot now.
Sakura mustered all her courage and forced her head up to stare into those fathomless eyes again. He was still leaning against the wall near the entrance, his phone in his hand and staring straight at her. She watched, her heart threatening to fly out her throat, as he lifted his phone and typed.
Her phone buzzed again.
Oh, gods, she thought. It IS him!
She looked down at her phone again and felt her mouth dry at what she read:
U busy 2nite?
She wasn’t sure what to say.
Well, say no, of course!
Right.
Sakura glanced up to find an expectant look on his face then down at her phone and texted him back that she wasn’t busy tonight. And it was true: of all her party invites, tonight hadn’t been mentioned. And all she’d otherwise be doing was studying and who cared about that right now? She might have considered spending tonight introducing Karui to Hinata and Ino and getting plastered and bemoaning to her friends that Neji was too hot for her (much to Ino’s disagreement, Hinata’s embarrassment and Karui’s confusion). Though she had no idea whether or not he was in a relationship, she hoped he wasn’t.
Sakura glanced up at him, noting he was now crossing his arms over his chest lazily. This was just another conversation to him. Nothing to be nervous about. She looked down as her phone vibrated again.
Wanna hang out?
She swallowed heavily. Was this really happening? She’d stepped into an alternate reality where Neji Hyuuga not only knew of Sakura Haruno’s existence but also wasn’t opposed to speaking to her. Or texting, whatever. But if she texted back, they were going to have to speak to each other.
She looked down at her phone, up at Neji, then back down again. She had to respond. But her brain could only work so well under this pressure. It felt like someone else was moving her fingers over the screen on her phone. Someone else was enthusiastically agreeing to a meet up. And it was someone else’s relieved sigh when he texted back immediately.
Pick u up at 7. Ur place.
No more questions, just a statement that it’s going to happen. Sakura looked up at him again; she was going to get whiplash at this rate. The corner of his mouth lifted lightly, somewhere in between a smirk and a smile. Neji left before she could get it into her head to stalk over to him and demand to know why, after all this time, he was finally paying attention to her. Why he texted her when she was right there, to talk to.
And what he’s really after.
Maybe it was a date.
Sakura held a fist against her chest and tried not to hyperventilate. A date?
Gods, it hadn’t occurred to her until after he took off that this was actually him asking her out.
How did he find my number? How long did he know I was at this university?
And more importantly, did he know she liked him? And if so, then how? Was she that obvious or had someone ratted her out? But he had to know. Why else would he look at her that way? Like he was going to eat her up. Very much unlike the guy she thought he was. But what did she even really know about him? That he used to be reserved. That he wasn’t open and forward with most people. That he disliked the main branch of his clan thoroughly and this was why he walked around like an emo.
This new him looked different.
That, or I never really knew him to begin with.
She groaned at herself. Duh, Sakura. Crushing on someone didn’t give her an all-access pass to their personality.
So, she was going to learn more about the real him. The face he’d hidden behind a mask of indifference and unattainability before now. He looked cocky. Like there was no way she was going to say “no” to him. Or maybe nobody ever said no to him? Either way, Sakura wasn’t going to pass up this opportunity. She was going to get to know him.
Sakura gasped suddenly, ignoring the stunned looks of students at nearby tables.
She was going on a date with Neji Hyuuga. Holy hell. But wait…
Does he even know where I live?
She felt like her mind and heart were being tugged back and forth as the reality of this slowly sunk in. She was going on a date with Neji Hyuuga. They were going to TALK to each other. And there’d be… touching, of some sort. She was going to be touched by the Neji Hyuuga! Sakura let that sink in for a moment. She tossed the implications around in her head. Then started to panic.
What the hell am I going to wear?!
.:.
Night came. The sun went down. Sakura felt her heart clench as the soft air hit her skin through the open window.
Her parents weren’t home. Thankfully. She still wasn’t sure if this was even happening. Walking back and forth in her halter top and denim skirt, she felt self-conscious, as though someone was filming her getting stood up. She’d gone through the denial stage and ploughed head through into the confident one; it was how she’d managed to actually pick something out to wear.
Sakura shivered and tugged her cardigan tighter to fend off the chill. It was already April, so she should be warming up, which was why she’d opted for this ensemble. But the chill of the early night made her wonder if she’d made a mistake. She peered around the curtains of the front window of the foyer, staring out at the barely lit street.
In ten minutes, Neji would be on time. Another half hour after that and she’d chalk this up to a very stupid joke and count it as an embarrassing loss for her. If he turned up right now, he’d not only be early, and she’d die of excitement.
You weirdo, she admonished herself.
Sakura sighed. Half an hour after their almost-meeting in the cafeteria, he’d sent another message telling her to wear nice but comfortable clothes. Comfortable for… what? Rock climbing? Ice skating? Drive through movies? What? She didn’t know. So, she asked.
What resulted was a back and forth of ideas where he said some friends were eating out tonight in a group dating scene and a couple of newer study buddies had also invited him to the nightclub Kitsune. Neji also suggested his family estate; there was a perfect view of Kyoto from a little hill to the east of the compound, and blessedly free from running into any of his relatives. In the end, he let her decide which one they were going to.
Her brain tried to process that all afternoon. Neji ignored her for years. Why would he suddenly be asking her out now?
College changes people.
All throughout high school, Neji was that aloof and studious student that everyone knew was above having friends or sleeping around. Even his on and off again girlfriend didn’t get that much of his time (there were rumours). Though nobody doubted they were involved. He’d also graduated with the highest grades Konoha High had seen in half a century. But now, here he was, getting caught up in the lax attitude of university life, just like everyone else.
Allegedly.
Her nerves were going to get the best of her.
Sakura’s heart nearly jumped out of her mouth at the sound of the doorbell.
She closed her eyes and counted to ten in an attempt to get her breathing and flushed appearance under control. It helped to imagine it was just Ino and Hinata on the other side of that door and they were heading to the mall because Kawaramachi OPA was having a sale. She knew that mirage would be destroyed the moment she opened the door, but she couldn’t help herself.
Her acting skills were on point when she finally twisted the knob and opened the door, looking up into those pale eyes of her high school, now university, crush.
“Hi.”
“Hi.” He smiled. “Ready to have fun?”
Isn’t fun out of character for him?
Probably.
He doesn’t look like an alien kidnapped him and replaced his brain.
Sakura nodded, opening the screen door that was her only barrier to him and grabbing her shoulder bag. He waited patiently for her to lock the front door, and she could feel his eyes trailing over her body.
Definitely didn’t ask me out because of my personality.
She felt a thrill run through her at the realisation of what was about to happen. It wasn’t a prank. It couldn’t be.
Well maybe he just wants to get to know my personality, instead.
Sakura felt oddly elated at that prospect too. She’d had this crush for far too long. Just getting his attention, even if nothing else happened between them tonight, was far more than she could’ve ever hoped would happen.
She turned around to see that Neji still hadn’t stopped checking her out. Instead of feeling shy or nervous, she felt empowered. For years those eyes had only been for one girl and were suddenly wholly and focused on Sakura of all people.
She had power. It felt nice.
But she didn’t want to look like a bumbling fool, so Sakura pretended not to notice.
Neji held a hand against her lower back, dangerously close to her arse. She fought the urge to tremble at that realisation. Just a small slip and he’d be able to ….
Sakura inhaled deeply, pushing that thought aside as he led her to his car.
His car… is a convertible.
Sometimes she forgot he was a Hyuuga. And rich.
It looked extremely expensive.
Neji stepped around her suddenly to open the door for her and she thanked him before sliding into the front, passenger seat. All along, he watched her movements closely, his eyes lingering on her bare legs. Sakura’s heart raced as she noticed the rear seats had been folded down. She was imagining all kinds of scenarios where Neji pulled her into the back of his convertible and just took her right there.
Sakura inhaled deeply as Neji walked around to get into his side. She wondered if this was usual for him as he seemed completely at ease. His manners seemed impeccable.
She spent the few seconds it took for him to get in beside her to take in the details of the convertible. For example, the seats weren’t leather like she’d expect; it was more of a cloth material. Sakura ran her fingers over the edge of her seat, nervously. She didn’t know there were alternatives to leather in convertibles. Ino had once told her that leather seats were horrible if you wanted to fuck in the car.
I’m overanalysing it.
Sakura snuggled into the seat as Neji got in and tried to push her nervousness aside. She knew exactly where they were going as he drove. The windows were up, the Reverse Air Conditioning was on, and the moment he’d turned the engine on, soft piano music began to play through the speakers. She almost laughed out loud. Not because it was a bad choice but because all this time, since he’d asked her out, she’d been assuming that either she simply didn’t know anything about Neji or that college had changed him.
Soft piano music was exactly what she would’ve guessed that high school Neji would be into.
And more than anything else, that broke the ice for her. More so than the blast of hot air from the car’s climate system, which was keeping her warm though.
This is the best car I’ve ever been in.
But she wasn’t sure what to start the conversation off with. Sakura’s eye twitched involuntarily.
“I can turn it off if it’s bothering you.”
She almost jumped at how sudden his voice sounded. “No, it’s fine,” she said quickly and cleared her throat.
“You’re sure?”
She must have sounded hesitant. Sakura nodded. “I like it. It’s very you.”
He smiled at that and she inwardly smirked, proud of her wit.
“I think piano music suits you. Do you play?”
“I used to.”
Sakura smiled as they stopped at a red light. “I used to play the flute. Worked really hard on it in middle school and wanted to join the school band.” She laughed. “But I wasn’t very good at it. Musicians are really amazing. They’re so talented.”
Sakura rambled for a little while before realising how she sounded but Neji didn’t seem bothered. The drive was taking so long she didn’t know what else to do. Neji answered when she asked about his piano lessons; he had this strict teacher who slapped his hands every time he got it wrong. She was frowning at the cruelty of it all when he asked her if she ever thought about another instrument.
“Maybe you just weren’t meant to play the flute.”
She decided then and there that she would be taking up piano lessons sometime soon.
They made it to their destination twenty minutes after he’d picked her up. From the three choices Neji had put to her, Sakura didn’t care for the club scene since she’d never been to one and would just be extra nervous. She liked the idea of going to Neji’s family estate, but no matter how many times he’d assured her that his family wouldn’t be there, she wasn’t ready for an accidental meet. The social implications of meeting the parents, in Japan, was for a very serious relationship.
So, she decided on the group date with his friends.
It couldn’t hurt to meet a few of them. And group dating was all the rage.
She could remember that back in high school Neji had a small group of close friends, but when they pulled up at the designated place and Neji led her into the well-lit, small restaurant, nobody in the group that called over to them looked even vaguely familiar.
Looks like I’m not the only one who didn’t follow their high school friends.
“Neji, dude!”
Neji took Sakura’s hand and her eyes widened in shock, she let him tug her along. The blond man who’d called to them was named Bunta, or something. Sakura was barely listening as the group of four introduced themselves. But she managed to absorb the fact that only two of them were a couple, while the remaining ones were just friends – and their couple friends found that hilarious.
As she listened, watched, and laughed along with Bunta’s jokes, Sakura was acutely aware that Neji was watching her closely. She ordered Tai Pei Chicken and Rice with a Sweet and Sour sauce. Neji chose some Nishin Soba, which made her think he wasn’t going to try coming onto her tonight. Who wanted to kiss someone who had just eaten seafood? She fought not to screw up her nose at the smell of it.
Fish, bleurgh!
But overall, she was enjoying herself, and when his friends eventually made remarks about having to study or head home, Neji leaned in toward her and whispered, “want to get out of here?”
By this point in the evening, Sakura had long since left her nervousness behind. She whispered back, “where to?”
His lips brushed her earlobe and she shivered. “Somewhere secluded.”
She hastily agreed, positive she’d interpreted the meaning behind the sudden huskiness in his voice.
Is it finally happening?
Sakura had been enjoying getting to know him better. His friends insisted he was icy and chill, while she thought calm and realistic described him better. He hadn’t shared anything too personal, but some hopes and dreams did slip through; she’d categorise them as attainable and he’d stated them so matter-of-factly. But there was a cheeky side to him he occasionally let slip with a twitch of lips.
She wanted to see that part of him, most of all.
But she couldn’t deny their mutual attraction was front and centre right now. They’d been hanging out with his friends for over an hour and Neji’s hands had played with hers under the table more times than she could count. (Not to mention her thighs.) His friends had even noticed, subtly teasing them both.
They left quickly, making hasty apologies and ignored the knowing, shit eating grins. Outside the restaurant, Sakura smiled into the night air. After all her nervous twitter leading up to the date and internal fears over what the entire thing even means, it had all come to this. She’d freaked out, originally, but this wasn’t a whim for her, like it clearly was for him.
Deciding to just ignore her own rules about what not to do with guys on the first date, Sakura happily settled herself back in Neji’s car, running her hands along the soft material of the convertible’s seat, excited. The piano music came back to life and Sakura turned to smile at Neji; he returned the gesture.
“Let’s go.”
He was just taking her… Sakura looked around, noting they were heading out of the city. He seemed to know where he was going and a voice in the back of her head told her that he’d been planning this part for far longer than she realised. They left the Kyoto districts and headed toward the nearby mountains; she guessed that their goal wasn’t the hiker trails but a cliff easily accessible by car. It was secluded though, the area where they finally came to a stop, and likely on private property. She knew of it like everyone else who wasn’t supposed to be here did – because the high and mighty upper-class family who owned this piece of land were notorious for overreacting to trespassers.
If we get caught here, I’m playing the “my boyfriend’s a Hyuuga” card.
The light of the moon and the stars were the only illumination; with the headlights off it seemed so much more majestic. And the view of Kyoto from here was breathtaking. Especially when Neji cut the engine and retracted the convertible’s roof. The cool air hit her, and she trembled, glancing up at the starry sky and then over at Neji. Silence fell like a heavy blanket and Sakura rubbed her bare legs in an attempt to warm up. What now? Did she reach over and kiss him or something? She was no blushing virgin, but she didn’t have much experience with spontaneous situations like this. Neji stared up at the stars before turning to look at her. Those eyes made her breath hitch and she shifted to look at him better. His seat belt was suddenly off, and his hand was on her knee. And she suddenly felt calm and very aware of what was about to happen. His voice was deeper than it’d been all night.
“You know why we’re here, right?”
Sakura nodded, licking her lips.
His fingers trailed along her leg now, caressing her skin as they went. “We can stop at any moment,” he promised, and leaned in to kiss her ear. “I just want you to enjoy yourself.”
She nodded again he took that as permission. His hand slid between her legs, his lips kissing her neck. Sakura shifted slightly, trying to make it easier for him, and being mindful of the gear lever. She almost hit it with her knee when Neji’s fingers found her knickers. He chuckled lightly. She huffed when he pulled away from her to adjust his seat, pushing it back to give him more leg room. When he also reclined his seat, she took it as a silent invitation.
Sakura obediently undid her seat belt, removed her shoes (they’d just get in the way, right?), and turned to climb over and straddle him. It was easier than she’d thought it would be. She hopped over the gear lever, easily avoiding hitting the wheel with her bum and found herself poised above Neji, her head higher than his, and his hands on her hips for support.
It was so surreal to her.
She had to kiss him.
He wasted no time in kissing her back and she immediately ground herself into him. It did not go unnoticed by her that she was positioned very erotically against Neji’s crotch. His hands splayed across her back now, massaging her gently, seemingly in no rush to get on with things. Neji bit her bottom lip playfully and Sakura gasped; his right hand cupped her butt and squeezed.
She wrapped her arms around his neck as best she could like this, biting her lip as he smirked at her.
He lifted her skirt, letting the material settle at her waist, and slid his hand between her thighs, rubbing at her knickers again. She moaned into his mouth as he inserted a finger into her, groaning louder with each thrust, her hips rotating without much conscious input from her. When she pulled out of the kiss to stare into his eyes, Neji added another finger.
“Ugh.” She couldn’t be more articulate than that, ignoring the smug look on his face and throwing her head back as he picked up the pace. “N-Neji…”
“Gods….” His mouth found her neck, sucking at her pulse point then kissing his way along the skin gently.
Another finger: this time he twisted his hand and quickly added the fourth finger, pressing his thumb into her clitoris. She cried out, her body trembling, not caring that he was ruining her knickers before she could even remove them. She rode his fingers to completion, his eyes now locked on hers. It was incredibly intimate. She couldn’t supress the blush that coloured her skin, nor the moans as she continued to rub herself against his hand.
Coming down from her high a minute later, she stopped moving her hips. Feeling more daring, Sakura lowered her arms, running her fingers along his chest as she went. Keeping eye contact, she lifted his shirt high enough to run her hands over his muscles, smirking reflexively at his sharp intake of breath. It was nice to know she affected him too. That this wasn’t one sided. His nipples were pebbles under her fingers as he groaned.
Sakura kissed him again, intending it to be a quick peck on the lips, and he pushed his mouth so hard against hers she almost fell backward. She returned his playful bite, but his hands were now caressing her sides. Like a proper lover. Like she mattered. Unable and unwilling to face that feeling right now, she moved her hands to his waist, hesitating slightly before unbuckling his belt and diving straight into his pants. She didn’t give him time to recuperate from the bold move, but Neji moaned in all the right ways as she pulled him out and started caressing him.
She’d never been this emboldened before. Her sexual experiences didn’t involve her manhandling a guy’s dick – she’d just left that part up to them. She’d never held one before. Her nerves were trying to make a comeback and Sakura had to mentally push them away, steeling herself as she continued to stroke Neji.
He was kissing her with less focus now, all his thoughts apparently having left the area the moment she took a hold of him. She grinned at that. This was power. Not the little looks of interest he’d given her bare legs. Not the way he pandered to her earlier (though it was intoxicating). Not the heated looks he’d been throwing her way during dinner. This lack of control on his part was it.
She ran her thumb over the tip of him, gently caressing as she put more pressure into their kiss. He was slowly building up in her hand, moving with her ministrations like his life depended on it.
His mind was an interesting thing. It seemed to recover after a few minutes and Neji tugged on the back of her halter top, undoing the tie that held it up, and exposing her breasts to the night air. She wasn’t as big as most girls but had decided to wear a strapless bra that barely covered her nipples. It made her feel so sexy. But one tug from Neji’s eager hands and she was fully exposed; his wet mouth immediately lowered to suckle on her as she continued to jack him off.
Sakura saw stars as she threw her head back again, again grateful for the retracted roof of the convertible. There was ample space to go as far as she wanted. It was only Neji’s hand on her back that stopped her from accidentally hitting the horn on the steering wheel, despite the fact that he’d pulled the driver’s seat back. She was bucking too much.
She slowed her ministrations for a moment before releasing her grip on his dick then glanced down at it, fighting the blush on her face.
Gods he’s perfect.
She swallowed heavily, now running her hands along his toned physique.
“Quite done?” He asked, breathlessly.
She nodded. “Ready for more.”
He smiled and kissed her quickly. His hands fumbled as Neji reached into the glove compartment. She heard the plastic before she saw it and Sakura’s eyes widened. She knew it was coming to this, so why was she so taken aback? But there was no time to back down, not that she was going to. Sakura shifted her position a little, trying to get more comfortable and give Neji room as he rolled the thin latex down over his straining shaft, then let him guide her hips as she quickly engulfed him.
Sakura moved immediately, not wanting to wait. “Fuck.”
She bobbed on him, his deep moans in her ear as he held her close making her cry out. She lifted her head, wanting to stare into his eyes again as he bounced her on his lap. Those pale, unfathomable eyes, were now like liquid silver; heated and intense as he stared back at her. His face flush, his perfect skin marred with the strain of fucking her. He pressed their foreheads together, breath intermingling with hers. It wouldn’t be much longer now. The harder she rode him the faster her orgasm was coming. She felt it tearing through her, stronger than any she’d felt before.
Sakura struggled to maintain eye contact but succeeded, forcing her head not to jerk backward as her vision blurred through the sheer intensity of it all.
“Sakura…”
Neji wasn’t done yet. He hadn’t cum. She could feel it. But she was boneless on top of him now and they were both slowing down.
“Fuck.”
He chuckled as she echoed her own, earlier sentiments.
“Indeed,” he whispered, brushing her hair out of her face and kissing her forehead. Neji nuzzled her chest, kissing her skin. “You still have your shirt on.”
“You still have your pants on,” she added, and he chuckled lightly, again.
“Come on.”
Sakura moved as instructed, wobbling slightly in the aftermath of her orgasm. Neji placed an open palm against her bum and pushed gently, earning himself a glare from the pinkette. He just wanted an excuse to touch her.
She huffed as he laughed lightly, following her into the back of the convertible. He’d pushed the seats down, so they had more room to move around. Neji removed his pants completely and tugged at her shirt to get it off, then manoeuvred her onto all fours. Sakura stretched out as far as she could before falling forward, letting out an “eep” as he shoved her, pushing back into her roughly.
“Arse,” she grumbled, and he just laughed again. It was such a soothing and wholesome sound that she didn’t bother reprimanding him any further.
Her complaints turned into moans, and she pushed back against him as his fingers found her clitoris again. She was flat against the seats now, her arse in the air and her face pressed down. Sakura turned her head to keep from choking as Neji’s hand caressed her spine. His body draped over hers, she felt him encase her like he was protecting her.
Protecting my arse.
Neji pulled out and quickly shoved himself back in again. She squeaked in surprise.
“Too rough?” He asked, panting with the effort, but didn’t give her time to respond as he did it again. And again. Harder this time.
Fuck, he was trying to make her shout herself hoarse. The fact that they were not only parked illegally but committing some kind of public indecency crime didn’t slow him down, nor muffle her cries.
“N-Neji!”
She pushed back at him but eventually, the energy started leaving her body and she had to stop. Neji took it as a cue and shifted their positions again; legs entwined and laying on their sides, this was far easier on her as her orgasm ripped through her once more. Sakura reached behind Neji, grabbing his arse as he fucked her with renewed vigour. But it wasn’t much longer before his huffing and panting in her ear became erratic and she felt his entire body tremble against her as he came.
He whispered her name almost reverently, and she let out an involuntary sound that one might mistake for a sob. It was too much. The swirling of her brain was slowing down, and she felt her entire being shake with the implications.
But she didn’t want to break down in front of him.
They laid there, still and heavy breathing, just recuperating. Sakura eventually suggested they get dressed and when he released his grip on her she started looking around for where her knickers had gotten to. But Neji held a hand over hers to stop Sakura when she moved to put her knickers back on. The dark look he gave her made the pinkette shiver. She understood. A part of her wondered why. The rest of her found it exhilarating. She nodded her head in agreement and he released his hold on her.
He reached over into the glove compartment, rifling through it as Sakura laid back, enjoying the view of is pale arse as he searched for something. She didn’t bother hiding what she was doing when he turned around and smirked at her.
“Here.” He offered up small pack of face wipes and then laid back down next to her, tending to his own body.
Sakura carefully wiped at the mess he’d made on her, not sure what to say about it all. He’d clearly prepared for this and that made her irrationally happy. Maybe she wasn’t some whim he’d decided to give into, after all. Maybe… there had been far more forethought when it came to her than she could’ve ever realised.
After a few minutes, she glanced over at him, noting the serene look on his face as he stargazed. It really was a beautiful sight, and lying naked next to him, suddenly unembarrassed and content, Sakura was fine with the silence. The cool breeze was drying her skin even if she did shudder every few seconds.
“You okay?”
Sakura’s heart skipped a few beats as Neji ran a thumb along her cheek. She nodded and he smiled at her sudden shyness then leaned in to kiss her gently. She rolled onto her side to face him, their bodies lining up once again. But instead of stimulating each other and looking to start another round they just lay there, taking pleasure in the simple acting of kissing each other. After a while, Neji did pull her leg over his hip, but nothing more came of it; it seemed he just wanted to pull her closer. She was still sure of this unintentional carousel when he started brushing his fingers along her breast.
After what felt like forever, he finally pulled away. They laid next to each other for a little while longer and she was surprised that she didn’t feel too cold like this, exposed to the night air.
But she needed to know something.
“Why me?”
Sakura was expecting some “why not?” answer but he didn’t respond immediately. After what felt like forever, Neji turned his head to look at her, the seriousness on his face surprising her.
“I’ve wanted to for a long time.”
“You…”
“I-I just.” He looked away from her, now focusing on the stars blinking above them. “I wondered about you. And I thought you might be…” He swallowed heavily. “I thought you were wondering about me too.”
So, he had noticed her crush?
What about Tenten?
She didn’t want to ruin the moment with that question, though it was furiously trying to slip off her tongue. She decided on a safer response instead.
“And?”
“And… university life was different than I thought it would be.”
So, she wasn’t the only one surprised by it.
“It stunned me too,” she said, smiling at the way this confession seemed to release some of the tension in his body. “It’s like a whole new world. And the rules are so different. At least, I feel like they are. And we can… let loose more.”
She wondered if being an adult was always going to be this eye-opening.
Sakura rolled onto her side and, ignoring their mutual nakedness, rested her head on his shoulder. He unconsciously leaned into her.
“I did wonder about you.”
He grinned. “I know.”
Sakura smacked his abs. “Arse.”
“I’m beginning to think you like that about me.”
She giggled. “Maybe.”
They lay in silence for a little longer until the residual heat from their exertion had all but faded and the chill of the night air forced them to actually get dressed. Part of her wished Neji was more of a gentleman, like he’d been at dinner while pulling the chair out for her and not touching her more than his under-the-table caresses, but she quite liked the way he ogled her as she pulled her skirt back on. He pocketed her knickers and helped tie her halter top back up around her neck; the two acts seemed contradictory, but she was learning to love that about him.
She smiled at that, settling back into the front passenger seat as Neji put the convertible in reverse and began to back them away from the cliff. Even with the windows now up and the roof closed she could still feel the night air on her skin. He waited until they were off the private property before turning the headlights back on and cranking the heat up in the car’s climate system.
Sakura sighed with contentment as the heat spread through her body; Neji’s left hand slid over her thigh in response, squeezing her gently and smiling at her. This was clearly not meant to be a sexual gesture; he was just holding her gently and began rubbing his thumb over the exposed skin of her leg. As they drove back into Kyoto’s streets though, Sakura decided to slide her hand over Neji’s leg, rubbing his thigh in a languid massage that was clearly sexual.
She smiled back at him.
