Chapter Text
The cold rain battered every roof in the town of Avary. The raining water had everyone unfortunate enough to get caught in it, running for cover in the shops that border the busy avenue. The asphalt was shining in the dimming light and it was rather annoying to one particular woman standing in the cover of a gift shop awning.
" This is just fantastic.....ugh. Of all days, this was the day it had to rain?! "
She loathed the rain. Ever since she was a kid, Alice hid in her room during rain storms in hope's that it would stop soon. As she got older, fear turned in to annoyances.
Today wasn't exactly a good day in her opinion to start with. Alice prayed that one of the many job applications actually came through for her, but as luck would have it no one got back to her. She was at her wits end and the down pour of rain didn't help in the slightest.
She checked her phone for the umpteenth time that afternoon.....nothing. She stuffed the device back in to her purse and desided to head into the gift shop, she was here any way and the rain was just getting worse.
Alice knew the owners of the shop, Gabby and Dan Fisher. Gabby was a sweet lady without a bad bone in her body. The kind of person that would have swerved off of a road just for a raccoon. Dan on the other hand, didn't really care about what happens out side the shop. She and Dan mostly just sold preserved flowers and other similar items.
Gabby waved at her from the cash register, smiling a awfull lot. She must have made a face, because Gabby soon frowned at her.
" Are you alright darling? You look like someone kicked your cat, so to speak "
Alice forced a smile " I'm fine, just having to deal with a lot right now, that's all "
" Well......I won't pester you any farther on the subject dear. Any who, how is the estate? I heard that one of the main wings is being remodeled soon? " Gabby asked as she stepped out from behind the register.
" Well yes, but not till later this spring. No one wants to work in the colder months.... "
She started to explain to Gabby some of the plans she had for her estate, but was distracted by a loud thud at the shop's front windows. Both her and Gabby looked over toward the shops front.
" Lordy, was that a bird Alice? No bird would be flying out in this gusty mess. "
The young woman shrugged at her friend, but glanced at the window again in time to see a small crumpled figure on the concrete path way. It was to big to be a bug, must be a bird she thought. It didn't help that it started to really pour outside. As she made her way over to the front of the shop she froze in her tracks.
" Gabby, your not going to believe this......but you have a visitor" Alice looked back at her friend than quickly opened the door and rushed outside. Gabby ran to the door after the young woman " Are you crazy! Get back in here! "
The rain was thrashing everything in ice cold water and the wind was making it hard to see clearly. Alice squinted at the ground, trying to find the small figure again.
" There you are "
She quickly snatched the tiny thing and ran inside the shop, having to pull the door shut behind her. Her hair was soaking wet and her clothing not fairing much better. Alice clutched the small being to her chest with one hand and patted her self down with the other. The rain most definitely ruined the rest of her day.
" Alice! Why on earth would you go out there? It's probably just a large leaf or som...." she trailed off as Alice gave her a scowl. The soaking girl shoved what ever it was in to her hands.
" OH MY! It's a gundam! A gundam hit my window! DAN! " Gabby shouted out to the back of the shop.
" Woman, don't you know I'm tying to get these leaks under control! What is it? " he grumbled.
Gabby rushed up to him with her hands in front of her. He had a look of concern on his face as his wife practically shoved her hands in his face " Look Dan! "
He peered down at her hands as she opened her fists to reveal what caused all the commotion. What sat in her two hands was a small, white metal being with wings larger than himself who was clearly knocked out cold. It's body was limp and the wing on its left was cocked to the side slightly. The little thing must have tweaked it as it hit the window plane.
The gundam was mostly white with yellow and grey accents on his chest, legs and wings. His hands and feet were pitch black. The four point crest on his head was rose gold along with the small filigree on the side of his head, arms and hip skirts.
Dan prodded it in the chest, causing Gabby to whip away her hands " Dan! Don't poke it! It could be hurt. "
" Gabby dear, it's probably dead. The way it hit my window, I don't think it would have made it anyway." Gabby gave him a sad look, but looked at the being in her hand. " You think it's dead? I hope not ".
Alice was busying herself with drying her self off while listening to Dan and Gabby bicker about what to do with the gundam she grabbed. To be honest with you, she really didn't care for it. She was never the kind of person to go crazy over little cats or puppy dogs, she just never found any thing worth fawning over. She mostly found books and old buildings worth attention.
The young woman noticed her friend rushing over to her with teary eyes " Alice! "
" Yes? " she gave a sigh as Gabby preceded to shove her hands in her face. " Dan thinks this little guy is dead! He wants to get rid of it, but I swear I saw him twitch! Dan doesn't believe me. Would you take him with you till you know for sure he isn't dead for me? " she gave a hopefull look.
" Gabby please, what am I going to do with a possibly dead gundum? Even if he ......" she was cut off abruptly.
" Please! Just take him so I don't have to worry about Dan. Just for the night! "
" How am I supposed to....." she was cut off, again as Gabby shoved the gundam in to her hands. Alice gave her friend a glare " Just one night Gabby, then it's your issue"
Little did she know that was the end of her seemingly simple life. How one little thing could change your life.
