Work Text:
You were laying in bed, watching lights pulse on the other side of the window, feeling pretty empty. Queen size bed perfectly fits two people in it, and yet you we're alone here. Tours were exhausting for you, even though you just stayed at home and lived your regular life. You went to work, came back, took a shower, listened to radio, occasionally you did groceries. Nothing special. And what's the worst part of that loneliness? Overthinking. You're such an overthinker and every night without distraction of any kind was an horror for you. What if? What if you didn't go to Los Angeles, but you stayed where you were born? First tear rolled down your cheek. What if you didn't start the work of your dreams? You feel another one coming. What if he'll find someone better than you and leave you just like that? Now you're crying soundlessly in the darkness. What if–
Another question was fuzzied by ringing phone. You looked at the clock, it was three in the morning. You picked up the phone.
"Honey! What's up?" a familiar voice asks, "Wait, I didn't wake you up, did I?"
"No, you're good" you respond almost automatically, it takes you a while to understand what's going on.
"I forgot it's a middle of the night of you, I'm sorry, I can call you later if you want" you can feel the disappointment in his voice, which usually was happy and so...vivid.
"No, talk to me..." you say, trying not to show that you're crying, "please?" you add, with a more requesting voice.
"Okay, what do you want me to say?" he just asks, not knowing what to do, you could feel he was confused. It was the first time you acted like that and he wasn't there to help you physically. "Maybe I can sing you to sleep?"
"Sure thing" you sighed with something you'd label as a relief. And then you've heard few missed notes, which quickly overgrown to Scorpion's Still Loving You. Now you felt what does it mean to break down and cry.
"You're crying?" he asked, a bit scared that he did something wrong.
"No..." you denied quickly, "Yes, but...I miss you" you managed to say through your tears, "I miss you so much"
"Baby...it's only two weeks more. You can do it." his voice was calm now. Calm and warm, you felt at home while listening to him. "You're great, the fact that you didn't leave me after everything I did-"
"I love you" you said, wiping tears away. You felt like lying, because not only you loved him. It was something greater that just love. You knew that feeling of ascending soul whenever he was close, tou knew how it is to truly smile with him, your feelings were safe with him.
"I love you too, stupid" he chuckled and you could feel he meant what he said. That was enough for you.
"Thank you" you murmured. Calmer than before, you could feel that your eyes are closing, but tried your best to stay up.
"No, thank you for being here" he responded and hearing you yawn, he chuckled again "Sleep tight, baby"
"Have a nice day" you responded and placed the phone down. It was all quiet again, but this time the silence was...warm. Warm, peaceful and made you think again. This time you thought about the last time you've been hugged in the sleep. And with that thought, you shifted yourself in bed and fell asleep not much later.
Sleep tight, sweetheart.
