Work Text:
Since a young age, Nishinoya has suffered from migraines; not all his life but they had gotten more regular and intense the older he got. They were never so bad that it impacted his daily life thought, it was a rare occurrence for him to get one during the day, which he was immensely grateful about, he wouldn't know what to do if it had impacted his life as Karasuno's libero, knowing himself he would probably play through the pain until he passed out on the court even if he knew that, that was a terrible thing to do he just loved playing with his team and especially with Asahi.
Nishinoya and Asahi hadn't been together for very long; only a couple of months but they were as close as if they had been together for years, they shared almost everything with each other, almost as if the two of them were made for one another but in every new relationship there are always things that are neglected to be said.
"you're still coming over right Nishi?" Asahi said as he pulls his gym tee over his head, putting it in his locker.
"of course I am! I'm not gunna miss any opportunity to spend time with you Asahi!" Noya beams up at Asahi as he finishes buttoning his shirt up.
Asahi chuckles giving Nishinoya a small smile. "okay, just checking,"
Asahi finished getting changed out of his gym clothes and into his uniform while Nishinoya talks at him about something he and Tanaka did in class earlier in the day. He is trying to listen but he's far too focused on the cute faces Nishinoya makes as he describes everything in too much detail. He only realizes he was not listening when he sees the confused face his boyfriend makes at him.
Shaking himself out of his daze he asked, "what did you say, sorry?"
"are you ready to go?" Nishinoya smirks with a laugh.
"uh yeah I am," he gives Nishinoya another small smile as an apology for not paying attention.
"Okay good" he grabs Asahi's hand. "let's goooo!" his shout echoing around the now empty club room.
----------
The walk to Asahi's house is shorter than Nishinoya's usual walk home which he likes, even if it does mean he doesn't get to eat as many of his favorite ice lollies as he usually does but it's worth it to walk down the empty side streets hand in hand with Asahi only ever braking there hold when Asahi has to root through his bag to find his house key.
"hurry up Asahi it's cold out here!" Nishinoya impatiently bobs from foot to foot as he peers into Aashi's satchel.
"you wouldn't be so cold if you didn't eat so many ice lollies," Asahi says as he finally finds his keys.
Nishinoya snatches them from his hand. "well you know that's never gunna happen," he laughs putting the key in the lock and opening the front door. "hi Mrs. Azumane!" he shouts into the house as the door swings open.
"she's not here Nishi, she's at work." Asahi giggles.
"h- oh right" he laughs rubbing the back of his neck. Noya gasps "this was just a trick to get me alone wasn't it Asahi," he says as he wriggles his eyebrows at his boyfriend.
"N-no it wasn't, I didn't even know she was going to be working late tod-" Asahi's nervous rambling was cut short by Nishinoya's soft lips meeting his.
"I know, I was joking, 's okay Angel," Nishinoya assures as he tugs him into the genkan and closes the door behind him.
Asahi's eyes go wide at Nishinoya's actions, but he leaned down into Noya's soft kisses. "can we at least take our shoes off before we start this?" Asahi says as he pulls away from Noya.
Nishinoya grumbles "but it makes me feel like we're breaking some kind of rule kissing here" he pouts dramatically trying to hide the grin starting to creep onto his face.
"um yeah the one that says no kissing in the genkan," Asahi chuckles nudging Noya so he has room to take his shoes off and put his bag down. "anyway, we said we'd study today, I know you're just trying to distract me so you don't have to," he said slipping into his slippers. "come on,"
"damn you're not someone who I can fool are ya?" Nishinoya said pulling his shoes off and plopping his bag next to Asahi's before rummaging around in there for a few seconds then pulling out a few crumpled pieces of paper.
"not that easily" Asahi huffed with a grin.
Nishinoya followed Asahi upstairs to his bedroom where they found themselves on his bed, Noya doing his homework and Asahi studying for his English mock exam. They didn't talk much just being near one another while doing their own work was enough for them for the most part. Well, until Noya finish his homework and with nothing else to do was now flipping through his phone not so subtly willing Asahi to finish up too so that they could relax and do, nothing in particular. After about Nishinoya's third long sigh, Asahi put down his pen deciding that he couldn't listen to Noya grumble anymore.
"Are you done?" Nishinoya flashed Asahi a blinding smile.
"I wasn't, but I am now,"
"Good 'cause I have some memes to show you."
Asahi sighed "am I actually going to understand these ones?"
"umm maybe," Nishinoya shrugged.
The two of them sat next to each other on the bed still surrounded by Asahi's textbooks for a while, watching videos that Noya found a lot funnier than they really were and laughing at stupid jokes. They hadn't realized it had gotten late until they heard Asahi's parents having a conversation at the front door downstairs.
"oh shit what time is it?" Asahi said as he checked his phone. 8:37 pm. "oh god, are you hungry? my mums probably brought something back with her." Asahi hauled himself off the bed. "I'll go check."
"Okay," Nishinoya said as Asahi slipped out of his room.
With nothing to do Nishinoya decides to clean off the bed so he can lie down on it properly. He gathers all of Asahi's textbooks and puts them in a neat pile on his desk before picking up his own homework, which was just a couple of pieces of paper. he spun around not sure where he should put his work before settling on just putting it on top as Asahi's and praying he remembered it the next day, even though he knew he'd forget it and Asahi would have to bring it to him in school on Monday.
He flopped himself onto Asahi's bed with a satisfied grown burrowing his head into a pillow, Asahi's bed was so soft and it smelled just like him, he could fall asleep just like that if it weren't for how hungry he was. His stomach rumbled loudly and he heard a low chuckle come from what he assumed to be the bedroom door.
"you should have told me if you were that hungry,"
Noya flipped over so he could see his boyfriend standing in the doorway. "I didn't know I was until just now myself," he chuckled.
"my mums brought Chinese, let's go eat," Asahi smiled.
"oh nice did she get-"
"yes, she got the prawn toast you like" Asahi chuckled smiling at him as they made their way downstairs.
They sat and chatted with Asahi's parents about school and volleyball while they ate it was quite a regular occurrence at this point, with them going around to each other's houses so often they felt at home no matter who's house they were in. After they finished eating, they thanked both Asahi's parents for the food and headed upstairs.
"don't stay up too late boys!" Asahi's mum called as they were about to assent the stairs.
"We won-" Asahi tried but was loudly spoken over.
"no promises!" Noya exclaimed, giggling as he pulled Asahi up the stairs. Asahi was gladly pulled up them by his smaller boyfriend with a roll of his eyes and a soft smile.
Once upstairs they fall back into what they were doing before, Asahi watching YouTube videos on his laptop while Noya leant against him and played around with his phone half paying attention to whatever was on the screen.
As Nishinoya was swiping through his phone he could feel the telltale pressure of a migraine start to build slightly behind his left eye, thinking it might just pass him by as it sometimes would, he ignored it. He didn't want to complain to his boyfriend about something that he dealt with almost weakly at this point. It didn't bother him and it wasn't so bad that he couldn't ignore it, plus he didn't want to make Asahi worry about him if he didn't have to, he was always so quick to panic when it came to Nishinoya.
"you wanna watch that movie we bought the other day?" Asahi breaks the silence they had fallen into.
"what! It came why didn't you tell me!"
"I'm pretty sure I did tell you, this morning when you rang me."
"oh right, I may have been a bit distracted this morning," Noya admitted giving Asahi a shy smile.
"huh? By what it was 5:30 am." Asahi looked at his boyfriend a little confused.
" heh, well your morning voice is too sexy, it's distracting," Noya's smile turned sly.
"ah um s-sexy wha- wait, wouldn't that make you listen more though?"
"not necessarily!"
Asahi just shook his head to his dumbass boyfriend getting up to put on the movie, it was an action movie neither of them had seen before and Noya was excited to finally watch. Action movies weren't Asahi's favorite type of movie but Nishinoya seemed so hyped to see it plus, Noya had promised, not without a laughing fit, that he would watch the old horror movie, Asahi was too fearful to watch on his own, with him.
The movie was great but all the flashing lights and loud explosions didn't help the ever-growing pain growing in Nishinoya's head. one particularly bright flash of the tv sent pain pulsing through his head, causing him to wince and scrunch his eyes closed to try and relieve the pressure, drawing Asahi's attention.
"you okay baby?" Asahi looked worried.
"yeah I'm fine, I just have a migraine coming on, I should be fine in a bit don't look so worried baby"
"Are you sure?"
"yes, I'm fine" Noya gave his boyfriend a sweet smile, he was so cute sometimes.
"Okay," Asahi said not looking or sounding convinced, but he didn't want to be annoying about it so he left it for now.
It was maybe half an hour to the end of the movie when Noya couldn't take it anymore, he kept trying to just enjoy this time with Asahi but the migraine kept getting worse and it defiantly wasn't going away like he had hoped it might if he just ignored it for long enough.
Noya groaned. "hey, can we maybe turn the movie off for a bit?" he hated having to stop the movie but it was making things ten times worse for him.
Asahi shifted beside him. "yeah of course, are you alright?"
Noya hummed a yes, "all the flashing and shits making my brain hurt hehe."
Noya's words sent Asahi into full-on panic mode he sprung up from the bed and quickly turned the TV off. " oh my god, um, okay, can I do anything else?"
Noya just chucked at his adorably flustered boyfriend "um maybe the light too,"
"ah, yeah of course" he flipped the light off, the only light illuminating his room was his laptop he had left open. "anything else, can I get you a glass of water or like some pain meds?"
"no baby that's okay they never really work anyway." Noya smiled at Asahi, he was so considerate and so cute when he didn't know what to do to help.
Asahi seemed to chill out a little when he saw how Noya was smiling at him.
"you're sure you don't want anything else? We can go to bed now if that helps or just cuddle if you want."
"mmm yeah cuddles sound nice"
"okay" Asahi went to climb back into his bed.
"as long as I get to be little spoon this time." Noya teased.
Asahi chortled. "yeah of course"
Asahi lay down next to Noya and held his arms out so he could climb into them, which Noya did immediately snuggling his sore head into the crook of Asahi's neck and humming in contentment. Asahi was Nishinoya's favorite pillow (and vice versa) he was always a safe place for Noya and he always smelled like honey and matcha, a smell that Noya now loves more than he would probably ever tell anyone, other than Asahi … eventually.
They stayed like that cuddled in the middle of Asahi's bed for a while not saying anything, just enjoying being close to one another until Asahi's curiosity got the best of him and he just had to ask.
"baby?" his voice was just above a whisper.
Noya hummed in response not really wanting to break the comfortable silence.
"do you get migraines like this often?"
"umm I guess every so often, usually they're not this bad and I just sleep them off… why?" Noya whispered into Asahi's chest.
"I-I'm just worried about you, that's all" Asahi smiled into Noya's hair.
"you don't need to worry angle, it's not like they're as bad as what my mar has to deal with." Noya lets out a soft laugh.
"why are hers bad?" Asahi inquired.
Noya scoffed. "Bads not the half of it, sometimes she can hardly do anything and the pain gets so bad she's throwing up, she'll just lie in her pitch-black room and try to sleep." Noya states.
"oh… that's gotta be really hard for you all, it sounds really, draining."
"Yeah, I guess, me and my sisters are just lucky it's not that bad for us, you know…" Asahi was silent for a bit, but Noya could tell what he wanted to ask "that's why I don't tell you… I don't see the point you know, if my mum has to deal with that I can deal with this." Noya lets out a soft awkward laugh, he didn't really like talking about how hard these things could be to his mum or himself.
"I get that but I still wish you told me, I worry about you… and I don't want you to overshadow your own pain because someone else has it worse, even if it is your mum." Asahi pauses for a moment. "that probably sounds stupid coming from me but still." Asahi huffed out a laugh.
Nishinoya sat up a bit so he could look Asahi in the eyes. Groaning and sighing he smiled at him. "ugh why are you the best boyfriend ever; your so sweet, it's unfair." Putting his still throbbing head back down on Asahi's chest he closed his eyes.
Asahi's low chuckle shook Noya "I was just telling you how I feel, you're so cute."
"humm no you," Noya said sleepily.
Asahi's huffed out another laugh and they fell back into the comfortable silence from before. After a couple of minutes, Asahi could tell that Noya has seemingly fallen asleep so he decides he'll follow suit.
A little while passes and Asahi is on the brink of sleep when Noya speaks, words neither of them had ever told one another before.
"I love you Asahi," Noya mumbles into Asahi's chest.
Asahi couldn't believe his ears; did he hear that right. his eyes shot open and he stared at Noya's face for a moment. "I-I love you too, Yu" the word felt so right to say, to hear, but Noya was already asleep.
