Would you kill your lover to save yourself?
The question ran through Evelyn’s mind over and over as she slid a finger along the sharp edge of the knife. Her eyes slid over his body, shackled to a small wooden chair. His long dark hair stuck to the bright red blood and sweat dripping down his face. Dirt and days old blood covered his bare torso, turning the skin a dark red. Tears brimmed his eyes as he met her gaze.
“You have to do it,” he said in the softest voice, barely audible over the guard’s footsteps as they paced the room.
Evelyn flipped the dagger over in her hand and drew her arm back, wincing as the wound in her shoulder ripped white hot pain down her back. She exhaled a shaking breath as she whipped the knife towards his chest.
