Chapter 1: Leonardo

Chapter Text

He calmly, cooly, collectively calls April and asks her what to do, all the while softly panicking.
He sees you clutching at your sides and stomach, randomly letting out a whine and he has no idea what to do. First thing he did was go to Donnie, with the question of 'What's wrong!' and the bespecled turtle blushyly explained the basics of periods, and once Leo asked what to do about it, his brother entirely shut down. That was the closest thing to an "I don't know" he's ever seen from his brother and he didn't know how to react to that either, so he just slowly backed out of the lab, returning back to his previous problem.
April seemed surprisingly resourceful (seeing as she's a woman as well) - she pitched him some good ideas, such as "just don't bother her too much", "try and make her feel comfortable" and "ask her what she craves". With that call done, he set out to help his lady love. And the moment he entered his room, where she layed, curled into a ball, he stopped dead in his tracks.
This feels incredibly awkward.
How does he go about this? Just outright ask? Would that be invasive? Would you be mad? But he can't just pretend he doesn't notice you're miserable.
Also, how has noticed this before? You've been dating for over a year, this is a monthly thing, isn't it?
He'd been so crushed when you'd arrived in the Lair late after work, and told him you just wanted to rest so you couldn't do your traditional end-of-the-week movie marathon. He was worried, until his acute nose caught your highly hormonal state and the pieces finally fell into place.
Still at the entry of his own quarters, he finally shook off his nerves, deciding that letting you suffer because he's nervous, is unjust and cowardly. And he was worried.
The two strides it took to his bed felt far too quick, but once there, he sat by you, hand hovering above your blanketed figure, where your waist should be.
But what if I hurt her? Isn't that where the... thing is happening? Can I actually hurt her if I press too hard?
"What's wrong, Leo?" you grumbled under his knit blanket, your voice displeyed very little pain and yet here you were winding your arms tighter around your midsection.
I'm supposed to be helping her, not the other way around...
"Uhm..." now's the time, he diceded, to fire up his preloaded questions, "how can I... make you feel comfortable?" his question ended in a question in itself, his audible uncertainty making his voice change pitch.
A hand snaked out from under the blanket, and uncovered your head where, you blinked in the dim lighting, a small smile spreading on your face.
"You don't have to do anything."
"But I want to. I want to help. April said to ask if you crave anything."
A muffled chuckle left you at his dedication to push through his awkwardness.
"Not right now, no." but before he could sigh in deflation, your eyes brightened as if a muse has struck you, "There is something you could help me with."
"Anything!" he almost jumped from his bed, excited at the idea, he wasn't actually completely powerless.
"Remember when you were doing some reading and I asked you to read something to me and it turned out to be in Japanese?"
"Yes?"
"Can we do that again?"
Confusion. Absolute confusion.
"You want me to... read you ancient Japanese war strategy?"
"Just until I fall asleep."
You seemed so sure. How weird is that? What medicinal merit could there possibly be in him reading you warfare manuals in a language you didn't speak?
You seemed to somehow sense his inner turmoil and put your somehow warmer-than-usual hand over his.
"I just want to listen to you speak. Can't think of anything better to fall asleep to." you scooched further into the wall and lifted the blanked in invitation, at which point he realised he'd do anything to see you happy.
He grabbed the first book from his bedside table and opened it at the spot he'd left off of, while you took the time to get comfortable - laying your head over his chest and covering the both of you in the warm blanket, throwing an arm over his plastron.
"日本の軍事史(にほんのぐんじし)は、豪族)"
It didn't take you long to drift off under the smooth melodical tone of his voice, reading to you with conviction about topics you didn't understand, but you didn't really need to, because Leo was the important piece of the puzzle.
