Work Text:
Seokjin swears he is about to lose his head.
His head spins thousands of times as he walks around the apartment, moving the sofa cushions, searching under the bed, in the drawers of the nightstand and even among the grocery purchases he made a few hours ago.
There was no way that something so important could have gotten lost between that, right?
As he tries to recall the last time he checked where the diamond ring was hidden, he takes a look on his phone to see what time is it. Almost 7 pm. That meant he had to start moving to make it on time to pick up Yoongi from work and go to celebrate their anniversary. It was a special night. Seokjin finally decided it was time for him to propose to his boyfriend. Yet, he couldn't find the most important thing: that damn ring.
He couldn't believe his luck. He had been planing the proposal for while now. Seokjin would take him to the beach and have dinner near the sea, under the midnight sky while being surrounded by petals and candles that would set the perfect mood for him to propose with the cheesiest speech.
"Maybe today's not the right time." He thinks as he grabs his coat and keys before leaving the apartment.
Yoongi greets him with a kiss and a big smile on his face once he gets in the passenger seat. He looks stunning as always; his skin is glowing, his face in general denotes happiness as he keeps that smile the entire way to the place Seokjin told him they'd be having dinner —but didn't give enough details about —. Seokjin, on the other hand, looks anxious and kind of vexed for having lost something he had been hiding well between his belongings. He had been waiting months for this precise day and it started so bad. He only hoped that at least everything would go well with the dinner.
"So how was work today?" Yoongi asks to break the ice once he notices Seokjin is quieter than usual. Normally he'd start chatting nonchalantly about whatever crossed his mind, but tonight he is silent, numb.
Seokjin clears his throat and smiles, his eyes fixed on the road. "It was good. Clients were nice this time. And fortunately they were decided for everything they wanted for their wedding, so everything went smooth and quick." He says as he taps the steering wheel. "What about you? Did the trainees gave you a hard time today?"
Yoongi chuckles, remembering how last week he was assigned to produce an EP for the new artists in the company he has been working for the past couple of years. "Not today. Today was all about meetings and deadlines. It was exhausting but I survived."
For the rest of the drive they share a longer conversation, although Seokjin is less participative than what he really wanted, it was enough for Yoongi to feel a little bit more tranquil. The older even turns on the radio and hums to the popular songs played by the DJs, which makes Yoongi to look at him with fondness.
Once they arrive, Yoongi looks around a bit confused since he doesn't see any restaurants nearby, so he looks at Seokjin with a furrowed brow and the confusion captured on his face.
"Hm, what's all of this?" He asks as he takes off his seat belt and opens the door.
"It won't be really a surprise if I tell you, right?" He bops Yoongi's nose before getting out of the car and closing the door.
The younger looks even more confused but gets next to Seokjin to grab his hand and walk to the beach. Sand beneath their feet and the slight breeze hitting their faces.
They walk for a few minutes and Yoongi's expression dramatically changes as he sees what Seokjin was referring to earlier. A long trail of pink petals and candles leading the way to a table, and behind it a small restaurant, that he guesses the personnel from helped to make all this possible.
"Oh my God," Yoongi mumbles while Seokjin is staring at him with a smile. "You're unbelievable."
Seokjin winks, "I know. And don't forget I am incredibly handsome, too."
"Right, I also don't forget you're annoying, but I will let that slide since you thrived so hard for this."
Instead of protesting, Seokjin places a small kiss on his boyfriend's forehead and walks next to him to their table. The view is amazing, and Yoongi feels so amazed by the details that Seokjin took care of. He was so lucky to have such a wonderful and caring partner.
Even if things aren't going as planned, Seokjin still knows it's useless to be mad at it. His mood lifts up after he sees Yoongi's happy and soft expression, and that's something he wouldn't ever forget. When he looks at him, he knows it was all worth it.
Instead of the romantic speech Seokjin prepared to let Yoongi know he really wanted to spend the rest of his life next to him, he tells him how thankful he is for the past years being his boyfriend. He thanks Yoongi for being his number one support and comfort on his life, and Yoongi reciprocated that gesture by telling Seokjin how his life has changed ever since they met.
They share a great dinner between bad jokes and laughter, cheesy pick up lines and kisses. They feel so thankful, so happy and in love, and that feeling they would never trade for anything in the world.
When it's time to leave, Yoongi is holding onto Seokjin's arm as if his life depends on it, pressing small kisses on his shoulder and also placing his hand above his thigh the entire way home.
As soon as they arrive, they change their clothes to put on comfortable pajamas and brush their teeth. Seokjin goes to the living room to accommodate some things he left on the table before leaving rushed for their date and he hears Yoongi's steps walking down the stairs.
"Hey, you're coming to bed?"
"Yeah, just give me a minute to clean this mess and I'll be there." He mumbles, focusing his sight on the stuff of the cupboard. Yoongi, however, remains still, looking at him with a shy smile. "What?"
"Uhm, you know, a few days ago when I was doing laundry I found something on the pocket of one of your coats." Yoongi murmurs, and that's enough to make Seokjin gasp and look at him with surprise.
Yoongi was there, holding a small black velvety box between his hands. The box Seokjin was careful to keep hidden from him.
"Oh," He says, getting closer to him. His ears get all red and he can't even find the words to say now. "So you- uhm, you found it."
Yoongi chuckles at his loss of words. "Yeah, I did. So, I kind of sense that's why you seemed to be irked earlier today. Am I wrong?"
Seokjin sighs at that. "Yes, I am sorry." He covers his face for a moment. "This was supposed to be a special anniversary, and it was supposed to be a surprise..."
"So you were going to propose tonight?"
Seokjin only nods, and now Yoongi feels his heart beating so fast; his hands slightly tremble and his body heating up for the sudden nervousness.
No one says a word for a moment, so Yoongi nods and clears his throat. "Okay."
The next thing Seokjin sees is his boyfriend getting on his knee, and he swears he could start crying right now. This can't be happening.
"Hyungie," Yoongi murmurs with a trembling voice. "Marry me?"
There's no hesitation in his question. The words shared on the dinner were enough confirmation for both to know they needed each other in their lives. It was their real promise to stick together and take the next step on their relationship.
Seokjin smiles and cups Yoongi's face with his hands, kissing him deeply and with so much love so he knows that his answer is positive.
"This isn't fair, you know?" He whispers, lips barely touching. "I was supposed to ask you that."
"Well, you remained silent after saying you were going to propose so I decided to do it instead. You weren't fast enough, love."
Seokjin rolls his eyes but kisses him again, helping him to stand up and place his hands on his waist, pulling him closer.
"Of course I will marry you, Yoongichi." Seokjin utters. "All I ever wanted was you."
Yoongi pecks his lips one last time before taking the ring and place it on his fiance's finger. It is as if everything fits and makes sense after doing that.
"I love you," Yoongi says before hugging him tightly. "I am so happy to have you."
"The feeling is mutual." Seokjin giggles before kissing Yoongi again.
They really can't wait to spend the rest of their lives together.
