Work Text:

"If you wanna be a hero so bad, there's actually a really good way. If you believe they're holding your quirk over in the next world ...

You should just dive off the rooftop!"

Izuku Midoriya was born quirkless.

All his life, Izuku had never experienced the joy of what it's like to have a quirk. His entire life, the boy was completely useless, chasing after those who hadpowerful quirks. Chasing after those, who also had the dream of becoming a hero. Izuku chased after those, who wanted to become the number one hero.

All his life, Izuku had chased after his idol; All Might.

Just like almost every other kid in this society, Izuku Midoriya -who was very young when he first saw All Might on TV- also wanted to become strong and use his quirk to become the symbol of peace. If you asked chilrdren what they wanted to be when they grew up, they'd always (most of the time) tell you that they wanna be famous heroes who fight "the bad guys", save people and become someone's idol. And, oh, Izuku was like that too, when he was a kid.

But he never forgot how much of a loser he was for being quirkless. A normie, a delusional dweeb who hadn't grown to accept that he will never be like the other kids. In the eyes of the others, the useless, quirkless Izuku Midoriya was nothing but insane. In the eyes of his classmates he was the nerdy outcast who'd spend his time fantasizing of becoming something he won't be today, tomorrow, in ten years or ... never. In the eyes of his best friend Kacchan, Deku was nothing but a creepy bastard who didn't know when to finally realise that he'd never be like the symbol of peace he'd always seen on TV.

Izuku was never gonna achieve his dreams.

Why?

Because the loser Izuku Midoriya is quirkless!

"Kill yourself, Deku!" is bascially what Katsuki had told him, before Izuku ran out of the classroom, holding back the tears that were starting to drop from his face, and when he had tried to calm down, it didn't work and instead he weeped and cried until he felt like fifteen minutes passed. He felt his own hand cramping up from holding his notebook in his hands, thinking about throwing it into the trashcan or actually taking it with him to let it dry, since Kastuki had thrown it into the water where the Koi fishes where swimming around.

But instead of chosing one of his two options, he let himself fall on the ground next to the school building and started thinking for a moment.

Kacchan had always been very cruel towards his childhood friend Deku, but never had the blond one told him to actually kill himself, if he wants to have a quirk so bad. Izuku was, of course, very angry about Kacchan's words, but he didn't have the strength to confront Katsuki for it, so he kept his mouth shut and instead, tried his best to endure the bullying he had recieved from people who were born with the fate to get quirks in their lifetime.

Izuku guessed, he was just born having no luck whatsoever.

And at this time, he didn't think things could get any worse than before, because he didn't think he'd almost die that way.

Izuku didn't reckon he'd meet the symbol of peace in person that day.

But All Might was standig right in front of him and was way taller than he thought. Izuku was nothing more than dumbfouded in that very moment.

Then he realised that he had, in fact, been saved by his idol! The hero he adored the most! The All Might everyone loves.

"W-Where is my- my notebook?", Izuku had asked himself, only to find it next to him in the same old unusable state it was half an hour ago. Written in it was the famous signauture of his favorite hero All Might, and Izuku let out a small noise of joy.

"Gotta go now, young boy. We'll probably see each other again one day!" the tall man with the blonde hair said, before getting himself ready to leave again, but Izuku shouted a hey! and All Might looked behind himself one more time.

"Can I ask you a question, please?", the boy with the green hair asked and instead of waiting for the hero's answer, he asked what was on his mind the last nine years.

"Can I ever become a hero like you ... even though I was born quirkless?"

Silence. Long, long silence.

" ... No."

Huh?

"Heroes risk their lives every single day. It's impossible to do this kind of work without a quirk."

What?

"You can become a police officer instead, catching villains and stuff. It's not as admireable as being a hero, but it's better than nothing."

No.

"Listen, kid, it's not bad to have dreams, but don't lose yourself in them.", he said and in the blink of an eye, All Might was gone.

He was alone again, with the cold wind blowing into the young boy's face.

This is not fair.

Izuku didn't move. It was like his entire body was frozen. The thing most precious to him had been taken away from him. His entire existence he was bullied for being quirkless, yet he climbed to the last bit of hope that was deep inside of him and now his idol told him he'd never achieve his dream? This wasn't fair at all!

"I ... can't be a hero?", he asked, his voice bringing out the utter confusion that he was left to drown in.

He felt motionless.

Izuku's dream was crushed that day.

"I will never be a hero."

"The entire world is watching us!", he said, sounding way more excited than he intended to, as he sharpened the knife he had never really used before. It was a special knife, made to be only used once and Izuku knew he'd keep it as a memory for the special incident that was gonna happen today. An incident that was gonna go down in the history of the greatest heroes.

The heroes, the people with quirks he absolutely hated.

"If I ruled the world, I'd create a society where heroes are just as useless as people without quirks."

...

"A society where heroes don't exist.", Izuku said, continuing to sharp the knife he had kept in his secret shelf for, oh, so long. The room he was in was dark, only a small light was burning, but it was enough to keep him working so he'd finally complete what he wanted to do so many years ago. Izuku didn't like doing half-assed things. Izuku was never like that, so of course he'd do everything possible to crush every single hopeful thought in those who did the same to him, when he was born twenty years ago. And he wanted to fill the holes in their hearts with despair. Nothing but dread and despair. Izuku sure was determinded enough to fullfil his plan. The green haired man was ready for it.

"Hey, why don't you try introducing yourself at least? Oh, wait, they can probably recognize you like this.

Just stay silent.

It's better than hearing your damn voice, anyway."

Izuku Midoriya kept his back to the camera. The show didn't start yet, and he didn't want to ruin the fun and joy for himself. He knew what he was gonna cause, thus he tried his best to make it as great and enjoyable as possible.

"Y'know, I've been waiting for this day to arrive for many, ... many years now. I never even really thought my biggest wish would come true, but here I am!", he giggled and looked to the tied up man behind him. His body didn't flinch, but he was clearly breathing.

"Hey, say something! I'm getting bored talking to myself all the time, man!", Izuku said and tapped the man on his shoulder.

"What should I be saying?", the blonde man asked, a tone of anger in his voice. "First you told me to shut up and now you want to hear me talking again? Try chosing for once, Deku!"

"I dunno, but I don't wanna talk to myself. I am getting quite bored here."

"Entertain yourself, I am not your fucking pupet!", the blondie shouted at this point, which made Izuku sigh annoyed. The wrinkles on his forehead appeared. "You're being very rude, Kacchan.", Izuku said and finally took the knife to his right hand.

"Don't fuckin' Kacchan me you sick fuck. You can shove it up your ass instead, shithead.", Katsuki Bakugou said in pure anger, trying to free himself from the chair he was tied to with thick chains. No matter how much strengh he used in his body, he simply couldn't break himself free. He must have looked more than pathetic in that moment. Katsuki hated it. He fucking hated it.

"No, you're right. You aren't my friend. Thanks for reminding me, Ground Zero."

Katsuki was trying to move his arms furiously, trying to activate his quirk, but the Quirk supressants Izuku made him swallow before he had lost conciousness didn't seem to wear off too soon, and Katsuki made another noise of anger. Fuck.

"Hey, should I start it now? The whole country's gonna see it.", Izuku asked and looked into the mirror, straightened his black tie and smiled. "Go to hell, Deku.", Katsuki muttered and this time, he wasn't screaming and shouting all over the place like an angry chihuahua.

Izuku started the camera with a click and the button glowed bright red.

The whole world is watching us now, Kacchan.

"Today's incident is gonna be remembered in history!", was the first thing Izuku said to the camera, hiding the sharp knife behind his back with one hand. Katsuki was placed behind him, his position uncomfortable and his shoulders stiffer than a wooden board. He didn't seem to show or say it, but Kastuki felt scared. Smaller than ever. Controlled by someone he had always hated. Someone he bullied for being lower than. Someone who was always quirkless.

Katsuki knew the universe would fuck him over for that. He saw it coming.

"My special guest today is the admired, well known hero Ground Zero, also known as Kastuki Bakugou, or am I wrong, Kacchan?", Izuku had asked him and smiled. His smile was faker than ever, but there was something in his eyes that practically shouted excitment and Katsuki wanted to gag right there and then.

Izuku was creepy, but now he was just lower than scum. A villian without a Quirk, and yet the blonde felt weak and fraigle to his abnormal strong grip. Izuku was nothing but mentally unstable. A man who couldn't let his delusional dreams go and it made him go insane. Ridiculous, is what Katsuki meant to say, but was interrupted by the younger, who suddenly held the sharp, unused knife to the throat of the tied up hero.

"Ground Zero was a bully, and now he is a hero. Isn't that funny, Kacchan?"

"Shut up."

"Y'know, he once told me to kill myself for being quirkless!", Izuku shouted fake dramatic and looked Katsuki right in the eye.

Katsuki tried to speak up again, but the knife was already pressed up against his throat, so he stayed silent.

"My plan is to create a society where heroes don't exist. That means I'll kill everyone who gets into my way. I don't care if children are involved. Heroes can go to hell! All of them, inculding you, Ground Zero. You especially. We don't need you.", Izuku murmured, something unsetteling, cold creeping into his voice.

"I'll never be a hero."

I'll always remain quirkless, no matter what I do. I am never gonna be like All Might. He is never gonna regonize me as more than a quirkless idiot.

I am nothing without a quirk.

Serious tension grew quicker and Izuku kept on getting more angry and sad as time went on. Katsuki tried his best to keep his mouth shut, since he wanted to stay alive as long as possible, but Izuku not shutting the fuck up about his villainous, evil plan made him want scream.

"I'll always be up higher than you. And I'll be better than All Might, too. Deku, get a hold of reality! You are useless after all."

"Someone like you can't be a hero."

"You're quirkless, Midoriya"

"You should become something else instead. You can't fight without a quirk.

"I'm so sorry, Izuku!"

Tears were running down his face. Were they right after all? Was Midoriya really just worthless?

Was the Izuku Midoriya really just a failure after all? Was All Might right? Were Kacchan and his other classmates right?

The fingers were all pointing at him now.

"Quirkless!"

...

"I hate heroes."

"Do you even know what it's like to be quirkless, Kacchan? To be looked down upon people for something so fucking stupid? It made me hate heroes and quirks! If everyone were the same again, quirkless people wouldn't be forced into a corner again and heroes would become useless!

A place where heroes don't exist!"

"Deku."

"No, I don't need a quirk to erase heroes."

"Deku!", Katsuki said, this time louder than before.

"I don't need any of this bullshit!"

A place where heroes go to die.

don't

need

quirk.

Deku threw the knife away, and for a split second, Katsuki felt relieved, but Izuku's left hand grabbed the gun that was hidden inside ths pocket, and he emptied the revolver, until only one bullet was left. "I have changed my mind, Kacchan.", he said and sighed.

"Let's play russian roullet. I want this to be exciting, since we have an audience."

Katsuki's jaw almost dropped.

"You are fucking sick, Deku.", he said and Izuku continued to ignore his childhood friend's comments.

"No quirks, nothing. Just pure luck and fate. The person who gets a bullet rammed into their head first loses. If I lose, you can do whatever you want. If I win, I will let all heroes go to a place where they all will die. Eventually, heroes won't exist anymore."

"Kill yourself, Deku."

"To be honest, the only time I'll ever truly be free from this is when I die, so I won't mind if I die in the process of all this. I don't care if it brings absolute despair over me. Nothingness is the place we will all go home to eventually."

"I'll start, OK?", Izuku announces and suddenly, Katsuki can see Izuku's hands shaking very clearly. Maybe it's because of the drill and excitement he was gonna face now, or maybe the villain was scared. Katsuki only watched, as Izuku pointed the gun at the side of his dead, his breathing getting louder and heavier, eyes bloodshot red.

He pulled the trigger and-

nothing happened.

"I was lucky.", he said and now held the gun dircetly at his childhood best friend's head. Katsuki was more than just shaking at the sight of the gun. Perhaps, he was gonna pass out soon.

His eyes widened in nervousness, like he was gonna have a panic attack if Izuku didn't pull the god damn trigger now.

So he did, and no bullet was rammed into the blonde's head.

"My turn.", Midoriya said and pointed the gun at himself again. With a shaking hand, he pulled the trigger and still, no bullet came out.

How long was it gonna go like this?

Without any warning, Izuku pulled the trigger on Katsuki's head, and yet no one had died yet. Izuku let a smile form his lips, before he began speaking again.

"Maybe this is a goodbye? I don't know it myself."

"The fraigle me, who was born quirkless, will never be as good as Kacchan and will never be like All Might. The me, who was always dammed to be quirkless, always admired heroes, but never had the chance to become one. Not being able become I always wanted to be destroyed the kid in me, who adored watching the same All Might videos over and over again, shouting phrases like I am here just like All Might always didThe me, who will never be useful enough, knew that he will never survive with hope in a world like this.

Quirks make people become bad, bad at times. I am glad I never became like this. I don't wanna be a two-faced liar like everyone else is.

The me, who is a normal quirkless boy with a dream, never really died. I am always gonna be the one who will be left behind."

Bang.

"I am still quirkless, after all."
