Red Rain

Summary:

Even with Hawks' assistance, they were fighting a losing battle.

He had no idea how to win this.

He had no idea how to beat that thing.

Work Text:

This was the toughest fight he had ever fought in his entire life. That monster, that Nomu... it was actually  stronger than him .

He has never met an enemy he couldn't beat.

Some fights were more difficult than others, some enemies were better suited to take him on than others. But, all in all, fire destroyed everything.

And everyone.

But, apparently, that wasn't the case with this beast. Its regenerative properties were  insane.

It regenerated a whole limb in  seconds...

Even with Hawks' assistance, they were fighting a  losing battle.

He had no idea how to win this.

He had no idea how to beat that  thing.

For the very first time in his hero career, in his  life,  he was wondering whether or not he will come home at the end of the day.

He was distracted.

He was distracted  during a fight.

That hasn't been the case since he was a rookie, fresh out of high school.

And Hood saw that.

That disgusting  thing  grabbed him in its sickening, disfigured, gigantic hand and flew up.

Endeavor struggled against the hold, trying and failing to break it.

As they flew higher, the wind and lowering temperature made it more and more difficult to summon his flames.

He couldn't ignite.

He couldn't... breathe...

The grip around the hero's body tightened even more.

It's funny, really. The fragility of a human body.

It can achieve great deeds, unthinkable deeds.

But when you squeeze it tight enough...

It rained red that day in Japan.
